Mucocele removal procedure?

I have had a bump on my lower for quite a while. I used to constantly bite my lips as a child. I stopped biting my lips a while ago maybe like 5 or 6 years ago and the bump has never gotten smaller or went away. Is this a mucocele? If I go to the dentist can she remove it the same day I go in or will I have to make a seperate appointment. Does it hurt to be removed. Do they give you a shot in your lip? How much does it generally cost?
----------

The dentist is going to way to see you before removal. It could be a mucocele, a granuloma, a fibroma, or a couple of other things. After removal it may be sent in for a biopsy to determine for sure. Not all dentists will remove it and may refer you to an oral surgeon. As far as numbing the area, depending on its location, they may numb it the same way they would if working on a lower tooth on that side. Medical insurance should pay for this if you don't have dental insurance. Good luck to you.  (+ info)

is an abnormal growth called mucocele or oral fibroma really a tumor? what can i do about it?

anyone with this condition pleas give some answers
----------

These are two different things, but both related to trauma, not tumor or neoplasm. Mucocele is when you bite your lip and damage a salivary gland duct of a minor salivary gland, and then the saliva can't get out. It builds up and becomes a bubble, which is the mucocele.
An oral fibroma is usually caused by biting the inside of the cheek, and the tissue responds by building thicker tissue, which is the fibroma.  (+ info)

Mucocele surgery (PLEASE HELP, FREAKING OUT)?

okay, so im getting oral surgery tomorrow for my mucocele, and i was just wondering, does it hurt?
im getting put to sleep though.
but how do you think their gonna put me to sleep?
and will the putting to sleep hurt?
i dont know what to do
im gonna die.
at 15.
yay.
PLEASE HELP
----------

ive had three surgeries, and i came out fine. Two on my left knee and i got my tonsils removed.

if your getting put to sleep, your probably gonna get the anesthesia mask, it covers your nose and mouth you'll be asleep in a minute.

After surgery your going to be druged up. Your gonna be wtf happend? lol but the pain doesn't kick until your fully awake, like about 1 hour to 3 hours. You will probably need pain killers.

You should google the surgery your having done. Just to see what to expect.

Good Luck :)  (+ info)

mucocele in mouth- dangerous?

I think I have a mucocele in my lower lip. I sometimes bite my lip on accident when I eat. This bump has been there close to a month. It has gone down in size, but it still there. I have no pain from it. I am more worried about it being dangerous. If I don't go to a dentist for it- is that okay? I don't have dental and don't have the money to get it removed. Can they turn into cancer or anything?
----------

Mucoceles are benign conditions that do not become cancerous.
They can become quite large and interfere with eating but this is usually rare. Good Luck  (+ info)

The minor salivary glands in your lip mucosa sometimes get plugged. If you get them and they go away, you are lucky. Often, they have to be removed with minor surgery.  (+ info)

Is it a mucocele?

well my lip gets this bubble that is blackish-bluish in color about every 3-6 months, and it lasts for a couple of weeks, then goes back down again. It doesn't hurt unless you squeeze it but it is very annoying. Ive been doing some research and think it might be a mucocele. do you think it is, and for anyone who has had one, how do you get it to go away?
----------

The location of the lesions of actinic cheilitis is in all cases on the lower lip. Actinic cheilitis appears in three forms; white non-ulcerated lesions (29%), erosions or ulcers of the lip (48%), mixed white and erosive (23%).

You may suffer from one of these. It is not serious.  (+ info)
