What sort of diseases might cause slight limps but no deformity of the leg?

I need to know of a few diseases that a child might catch that would render her with a slight limp for the rest of her life, but no physical deformity.

Thanks.
----------

The most frequent cause of limping in an otherwise normal youngster is the childhood disorder "transient synovitis of the hip." It is presumed that a virus produces inflammation in the lining of the hip joint since most affected children had a mild cold before they suddenly started limping. This self-limited condition usually occurs in boys between 2 to 12 years of age (average 6 years).
_____________________________________________

Legg-Calve-Perthes disease is a rare condition that always has to be considered when a child limps. It develops when, for unknown reasons, something happens to interrupt the blood supply to the top of the thigh (femoral) bone. This results in destruction of bone’s top causing pain when the child walks. Boys ages four to ten are five times more likely to be affected than girls. X-rays of he hip may be normal at first but repeated studies and bone scans make the diagnosis apparent.
______________________________________________

Another cause of limp in children is "slipped capital femoral epiphysis." For unknown reasons the top of the thigh (femoral) bone slides into an abnormal position causing an abnormal fit of the hip joint. It is most frequently seen in overweight male teenagers (10-15 years of age). There is often a history of slight injury and pain may be first felt at the knee, even though the condition afflicts the hip.

What is the maximum number number of diseases a person can carry at one time?

I tend to read a lot about people having 3-5 different diseases and dying, but what is the record for the person carrying the most diseases at one given time?
I didn't see a Guiness World Record for it either. Might be an interesting addition, though.
----------

I've never heard of having 3-5 diseases at the same time. I have read, though, that people can carry a certain "virus" and never get sick with it, such as bacterial meningitis, herpes (oral) virus, and a few other's, but I can't remember them offhand.  (+ info)

What diseases can you catch from interacting with dead corposes?

This is a serious question. A friend told me about a girl she knew who caught a very serious disease when she handled human remains in a lab. Yeah, I know she must of done something wrong but I'm curious to see what diseases she could of caught.
----------

It is possible that whatever disease the person died of is still active and if she handled it, then she could have picked that up. Could be a lot of different disease she caught. Anything that is contagious and doesn't die quickly when the body dies.

They don't really have disease on their own that happen after death.  (+ info)

What diseases have emerged or reemerged due to pathogens evolving immunity to antibiotics?

[Reemerging pathogen]
What diseases have emerged or reemerged due to pathogens evolving immunity to antibiotics?
How does this happen?
How large of a threat are they to humanity?
What parts of the world are most threatened by these new diseases?
----------

There is MRSA which is getting very much a hazard to every ones health. I know that this happens because the person develops a tolerance to the more popular antibiotics. When this happens the doctors must use a broader spectrum antibiotic for whatever the illness is. This is a very large threat to the people that already have this. This is also one illness that the people that go into a persons room that has this in the hospital must use gown and gloves to protect the patient from any bacteria or virus that they may be carrying. I also know that small pox that was almost eradicated is making a come back in the third world country's like Africa and China. This ugly virus was almost wiped off the face of this earth until it somehow managed to survive a small area in one of these country"s and mutated. Since this is contagious and will spread like a fire if it isn't contained again this is another threat to humanity. Just think of a bad illness that there isn't any cure and that antibiotics won't help. There are already too many of these diseases that if or when many more get out of hand we will all be wanting to know what will be the next big threat and be praying that neither we or none of our loved ones will come down with them. Good luck with finding more from others and God Bless  (+ info)

What diseases can you get from the bathroom?

I sat on a toilet seat and this animal attached a wet piece of toilet paper to the inner top part of the toilet seat. My shirt touched the wet toilet paper and then my shirt touched my penis. What diseases can I get?

What diseases can you get from a bathroom?
Yesterday, I cleaned off a toilet seat with a person's blood on it. I think my hand touched some of the blood. After that, I defecated and wiped myself. I did not clean my hands off. What diseases can I get from that?
----------

It's really not often that bacteria or organisms are transmitted via the toilet seat. When they are the most common bacteria involved is either streptococcus or staphlococcus, and even these are seldom. More often conjunctivitis, (pinkeye,) can be contracted by the use of roll-towels in public bathrooms and not washing the hands properly. But the spread of micro organisms from toilets, urine, feces, etc. is very, very rare.  (+ info)

What are diseases that hide in your body/ animals that hide and wait for their prey?

What are some types of diseases that you can have and you wouldn't even know, diseases that hide in your body, and wait for the perfect to attack your body. Or animals that hide and wait to attack their unknowing prey.
----------

Parasites can hide in your body, wait and attack. Most get into a host without their knowledge and attack the system. They could fall into both categories. Check out:

If you want a disease that can hide in your body, try some of the genetic diseases that are only passed on if both parents carry that gene like Downs Syndrome. There is also heart disease, Huntington's Diesease (it degenerates your brain), and a slew of Mental Illnesses.  (+ info)

Yes, you can get gonorrhea, oral herpes, venereal warts on the lips, tongue and/or oral mucosa, chlamydia, and Hepatitis B from giving oral sex to a guy. Although the chances are very low, you may also contract HIV if the guy has the virus and you've got open sores/wounds in your mouth, no matter how minuscule they are.  (+ info)

What is the difference between viral and bacterial diseases?

Hey I have 2 questions:
1.is a virus a bacteria(or the other way around?)?Where do bacterias fit if they're not viruses and the other way around?
2.I'd also like to know the difference between viral and bacterial DISEASES,not between viruses and bacterias.I know you can cure bacterial diseases with antibiotics and you can't viral, but I wanna know the difference between the two.

Hopefully you'll be able to help, thank you very much!
----------

Hi there. No, a virus is not a bacteria. Viruses are their own identity. They are infectious agents and are incapable of reproducing except by 'hijacking' a cell (such as a human cell) and utilising what they need from that cell to reproduce. Nasty, hey? You're right: because viruses aren't bacteria, they can't be treated with antibiotics. The symptoms of a viral infection depend on the particular virus. The rhinovirus - common cause of the common 'cold' - is exhibited through congestion (nose), sore throat, blocked-up head, cough, and so on. However, the influenza virus - what causes the 'flu' - can present with the above symptoms but aches and pains in the joints, some of the worst exhaustion you will ever experience and, the classic symptom, a fever (lots and lots of sweating).

Bacteria are capable of reproduction without outside influence (as opposed to viruses). Bacteria are responsible for wound infections such as 'golden staph' (or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), urinary tract infections (can be caused by a range of bacteria), and pneumonia (can be caused by several bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae).

Viruses and bacteria can be rather confusing. Hope that helps somewhat. =)  (+ info)
