Do I have the viral meningitis symptom?

I feel real pain in my head and with neck stiffness. The deep pain inside my head would last sometimes a week. This happen if I exposed my head during late afternoon and nighttime. It has been happening for the last 10 years ago.

However, I manage to aviod the pain by wearing a hat during nighttime or during rainy day.

My question, is my symptom shows that I have meningitis or if so what is the medication that I should take because I don't like wearing hat.

Thanks, Salim

I have to wear a hat on cool days and at night. I even wear it inside on the days/nights when we are having trouble getting the house warm. I have very fine hair and not that much of it so it doesn't do much for keeping my head warm enough.

If I don't keep my head warm I tend to get migraine type headaches. This has been happening all my life, I suspect, but has got worse over the past 6-7 years to the point that keeping my head warm is essential to reduce the number of headaches I get. I am now in my mid 40's. I only used to get them very occasionally as a child/teen/early adult and they didn't last long - a few hours.

I don't get neck stiffness with the headaches I get now but they can last for a couple of days and I get one about every 4-6 weeks. Would keeping your neck warm be necessary for you as well, perhaps?

You could ask a doctor to put you on anti-migraine tablets and see if it helps. It has helped me - I get less headaches and they aren't as severe when I do. The downside is that they make me fairly tired so we have to play around with the medication to find the best dosage and timing. But at least they have proved the cause of the problem. Similar investigation would probably help pin down your cause. They now suspect that migraines and sinusitis headaches are the same thing and possibly other types of headaches.  (+ info)

What causes viral meningitis?

What causes viral meningitis? Like how is it transmitted? Also what are some of the viruses that cause it?
Just curious because I had this like 6 months ago and I never really got any clear answers.
Is there different kinds a viral meningitis? And how does the virus enter your spinal column?
I heard fecal-oral route, maybe I got it from changing my babies diaper and not washing my hands good enough. What other ways can you catch it?
----------

hey im just getting over mine the dr said it can come from the flu or cold apperenly mine come from a throat infection that wasnt treated properly and the virus infested in my spine i had the viral as well he also said my fiance could catch it but it might oly appear as a throat infection and not infect the spine i dunno it was weird but apperently most viruses can turn in to meningitis  (+ info)

What is the scientific name for viral meningitis?

That's it. That is the name. But the viruses that cause it do have their own scientific names--there are several types of enteroviruses that cause them.

Viral meningitis is also called "aseptic" meningitis, which simply means there are no bacteria involved.  (+ info)

What kind of injury is done to a victim with VIRAL MENINGITIS?

lol i think i just answered your other question.

Meningitis affects the spinal cord which in turn affects the nervous system and the brain. If its not caught in time it can cause death, but caught in time will just do minor injury like stiffness and some loss of motor skills.  (+ info)

17 days of viral meningitis and still no improvement?

My husband was diagnosed with Viral Meningitis and I know all the particulars of it- including the fact that it sometimes takes up to 14 days to recover. However, he is on his 17th day and still no recovery. I want to know if I should request to see a specialist and if so what kind?
----------

Generally Viral meningitis goes away 3-5 days depending on age, health, medications. He should have a spinal tap to relieve the symptoms.Sometimes it takes two spinal taps to drain some of the virus out. If he hasn't felt better by now then some one has given him the wrong diagnosis. But as of yet there still is no solid cure. Just plenty of rest good balanced meals and lots of vitamines.

Sincerely yours,  (+ info)

How is viral meningitis contracted?

I got it recently and I don't know how. Also is there any long term risks? I was in hospital for a few days
----------

Swapping spit, breathing in an infected person's breath droplets (when a person sneezes or coughs and you walk into their "exhaust" lol), drinking from an infected person's cup, etc. etc.  (+ info)
