meningococcal meningitis vaccination?

i am think about getting the meningococcal meningitis vaccination, im 14 and about to enter high school.
is there any side effects of the vaccination, and anything that could go wrong with it? like me getting the disease accidently from the vaccination?
any info you have on it would be greatly appreciated.
----------

it's a pretty safe vaccine-i just got it a few months ago, and the only real threat there is (within plausible statistics) a little swelling and irritation at the site of injection.
other than that, it really is a good idea to get the shot. meningitis is pretty bad and it is easily contracted when you're constantly with large groups of kids-you have to get it for college anyway!  (+ info)

meningococcal Meningitis Vaccine?

I recently got a vaccine for Meningitis, A day later, I have mild pressure in my forehead, and I feel generally sick. I don't have a stiff neck so I don't think I have Meningitis. Is this kind of reaction normal, how long does it last?
----------

It's common to have fever and a mild sick feeling after a vaccine shot, which usually lasts only for a day after the vaccination.

If your headache is persistent on the 2nd day, see your MD because meningococcal vaccine has rarely been known to cause neurological problems in people who have had any previous neurological illnesses such as Guillain-Barre syndrome or seizures.  (+ info)

Is meningococcal shot given for pain? Is there any other uses for it other than Meningitis?

I was unable to find if the shot is given for any other decease. There is no mention either at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meningococcal nor http://www.meningococcal.com.au/ it seems like this is the only reason to get such shots. It is stated that this shots are only good for three years, after which there is no hard proof that there is still protection against said decease.  (+ info)

Is the Meningococcal tetravalent polysaccharide vaccine and the Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine the same?

I'm heading off to college now and I have one remaining vaccine that I have to take.
The place that I'm getting my vaccines has the "meningococcal polysaccaride vaccine" for meningitis. However, my college requires a "meningococcal tetravalent polysaccharide vaccine". Are those the same vaccine?
----------

There is only one polysaccaride based meningitis vaccine available in the US, sold under the name Menomune, and it's tetravalent - so yes, these are the same thing.  (+ info)

When should I get my meningitis shot again?

I last got to shot 2 years ago. And does the vaccine cover the bacterial meningitis, because I know it covers the viral one. I got the meningitis meningococcal shot 2 yrs ago if that helps?
----------

There is no shot that protects against viral meningitis.

There is a shot that protects against several strains (not all) of bacterial meningitis...like the meningoccocal bacteria that you mentioned. Call your doctor to see if you are due to have another of those.  (+ info)

Is meningococcal meningitis lytic or lysogenic?

Meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis is bacterial, even though there can be viral and bacterial meningitis. Lytic and lysogenic refers to two different types of VIRAL reproduction. Almost all bacterial reproduction is by binary fission. There are NO similarities between viral and bacterial modes of reproduction.  (+ info)

Should you give a 7 year old a meningitis shot?

There is a case of meningitis (meningococcal C) in a school (not the one my kids go in). I have a 11 year old boy and I think is safe to give him a shot for this illnes, but what about a 7 year old girl?
----------

A few years back in Edmonton all kids under 18 were recommened to get the shot.. I had my son done and I would recommend it.. My son had surgury at the Uof A hospital and I seen a baby who had Mengingitus and the poor thing looked like its arms and legs had rotted off.. i would get them both vaccinated..  (+ info)

Get it checked out by a doctor, you may have a staff infection, possibly sinusitis, yellow discharge from your nose is a possible sign, headaches also, You should consult a doctor. You may, probably, have a low grade infection.   (+ info)
