what does a cyst feel like?

i have a lump behind my ear which i went to hospital for, they said it might be mastoiditis or it could be a cyst but i will find out in about 5 days..
this thing feels like bone.. just wondering is a cyst feels hard of soft?? would it feel so hard that its like squeezing rock?? orrr???
thankss
----------

a cyst could feel like a big pimple, kinda squishy or a little harder depending on what kind of cyst it is. It would also be painful to touch and generally gets larger by the day. Hope that helps. I don't know why they would wait 5 day to tell you?  (+ info)

HELP diagnois me...the doctors can't seem to?

I get this about once a year. A marble size cyst behind my left ear. the lump is the most painful thing I have ever felt. it is hot to the touch and somewhat itchy although no rash. it hurts up and down the back of my skull/neck. My ear lobe gets to the size of a marble as well, filled with little blisters. The agony is awful yet no one can tell me what it is. I have been told Shingles, Herpes Zoster, and something called Mastoiditis, which it isn't. Has anyone heard of this, or had something similar? The Ear nose and throat Doctor can't get me in until March, and the ER Drs are clueless as well (I have been to 5 doctors so far) The out break lasts about 2 weeks. Please help me

How do you know its not shingles? It sounds like that's what you maybe suffering from. The fact they occur for about 2 weeks and in the same region points to it.  (+ info)

possible cancer? Please help?

I'm 19 years old and I'm a little worried. Here's my past medical history:
December of 2008 I had excrutiating ear pain and I was diagnosed with eustachian tube dysfunction. March of 2008 the same pain came back and I also had a dull pain in my back left bone. I was diagnosed with Mastoiditis and given a heavy dosage of antibiotics. I received a CAT scan and the results were good- no problems.
This past month I got sick with mono and was forced to drop out of college because I lost too much weight and it was all just too much. While being sick this really bad ear pain came back, the same exact feeling I had with Eustachian dysfunction. I also got what I thought was my period exacly 2 weeks between my period. It didn't last long, and I got my normal period on time 2 weeks later. A couple of weeks ago I felt the dull pain I felt in my bone with the mastoiditis, but I feel it above that spot as well, on the left back side of my head. About 1 week ago I woke up feeling really nautious with a slight headache. I felt so bad I just laid in bed, and after 2 hours I vomited. An hour after that I felt better and was suprised to be eating again and felt fine. For the past 2 weeks my right leg has felt weird- Like the circulation has been cut off, as if I had a rubber band around my thigh. I went to the eye doctor 4 days ago and couldn't read the smaller letters in the eye chart even wih the new prescription. he said I have large clusters of white blood cells in my eye which is evident of an infection in my head.
my bottom lip started quivering for a couple minutes yesterday and I couldn't stop it. I have been tired and weak, but I credit that to recovering from mono.
I'll forget simple words but other than that my short term memory is fine.
Please help! I'm going back to the optomitrist in 5 days to see if the eye drops he gave me helped but I'm getting nervous. Any advice is appreciated.
~MG

You need a complete physical and to work with a doctor to get to the bottom of what is happening with you. Be persistent you deserve a diagnosis and to feel better. Your symptoms are vague and could mean anything . . not necessarily tumor but not ruled out either . . the symptoms might not even be related to each other but all separate things. So you will need someone who is willing to continue treating you and work to find out if there is or is not a connected medical reason for all these various things happening to you.  (+ info)

metastatic malignant melanoma and gradenigos syndrome. Is there a link?

Diplopia. blood test abnormal but non conclusive. Mastoiditis. some problem with my adenoid. fluid to left side of head. grommit in ear. major headache. problem with bone at back of head doctors unsure. 27 lymph nodes removed 6 months ago under armpit. stage 3. in hospital can anyone help. been in hospital for over a week a doctors cannot locate problem. is this the way melanoma works or are the doctors not very good. I am partially deaf in my left ear and have a patch over my left eye to alleviate eye strain. My other eye is now painful too as i think its working overtime. prior to my hospitalisation i have suffered some tingling in my arms very briefly but no fatigue or dramatic weight loss. can someone help with advice or knowledge please?
----------

It is difficult to second guess your treated physicians when we know nothing about you, your history, condition and treatment. Gradenigo's syndrome is caused by infection and you have all the symptoms. Melanoma doesn’t work in a normal way it is the most unpredictable cancer there is. The only thing I can suggest is to get another opinion. There are a couple of oncologists who answer questions here hopefully one of them will see this and perhaps be able to give you a better answer.  (+ info)

ear problem? plz help anyone?

okay...i used to have chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) AAD type with acute mastoiditis 2 years back. and ever since, i kept having discharge coming out from my ear up until now. i had visit my ENT specialist for continuous follow-up but all he said is that i dont have to worry and he prescribed me different medications every time i visit him. the discharge never go away tho.

now, my problem is, the discharge had change into some sort of sour odour. like the smell of your socks or shoes after wearing them for the whole day. it's yellowish in colour. and i have finished my meds that he gave me 2 weeks back. my next appointment will be next month.

do you think it's fungal infection? otomycosis in particular? i dont feel any earache. oh, i check my blood glucose level today. the reading for my fasting blood glucose is 6.0. Do i have diabetes because if that so, otomycosis is very common in diabetics. btw, i'm just 22.

anyone have any idea? your opinions are highly appreciated. thanks in advance.
hally: that is called cholesteatoma. i had that one before this. and was operated for the same.

nikkai: i wish i had the blower thing. my doc asked me to always keep my ear dry but i dunno how else. i put cotton wools inside my ear when i'm taking bath to prevent water from entering it.
----------

What you are describing is very very similar to my own problem,
Have you ever had (prescribed) TRI-ADCORTYL OTIC ointment I have this and place a small amount into the ear which clears my problem within a few days, I find that it is worse if I let my ears get and stay wet (I dry them out using a low heat gentle blow dry from a hair drier.  (+ info)

Hemorrhagic cyst..plz help?

ok so recently i have experienced many ruptured cyst on my ovaries... the worst of all being tonight...i went to the ER in severe pain they said i have 2 things a Hemorrhagic cyst and also mastoiditis...i have no insurance and i am wondering what the dangers of this type of cyst are as i have experienced about 6 severe ruptured cyst in the last 6 months...and now this i was told to see a gyno as soon as i can because surgery may need to be performed...i just want opinions from others who have had this problem...
----------

Cysts in the ovary can be reduced (prevented) by intake of hormones (Estrogen & Progesterone) or the "pill". If not, the ovary involved will have to be removed.

Mastoiditis is inflammation of the cells (empty spaces) in the bony bump behind your ear lobe. This is serious as the bacteria will eat up the bone and create meningitis or brain infection. A doctor must "drill" into the mastoid process (bony bump) and perform a lavage (wash) of the infected cells and area with an antibiotic solution besides you taking other antibiotics to suppress the infection.

Best wishes.  (+ info)

Help, high resting heart rate at 15!!?

I would just like to say that i am a male, 6' 6" an 155 pounds with 17% body fat. I've been having this problem since may that doctors at first thought was a sinus infection. I visited a page that someone wrote and has all the same symptoms as me pretty muchhttp://www.medhelp.org/posts/Undiagnosed-Symptoms/Dizziness--spaced-out-feeling--head-pain--sinus-pressure-and-feeling-shaky/show/203445) and gathered these possible causes:

Anxiety
Lyme Disease
Celiac Disease
Thyroid Problems
Thyroid Nodule
Systemic Candidiasis
Candida (yeast)
Menieres Disease
Multiple Sclerosis
Schwannoma
Magnesium Deficiency
Amalgam Illness
Inner Ear Disorder
Vestibulocochlear Disorder
Mastoiditis
TMJ
Vestibular Nerve Problem
Pituitary Gland Problem
Hashimoto's Disease
Peripheral Neuropathy
Intercranial Hypertension
Dysautonomia
CerebroSpinalFluid Leak
Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity
Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfuntion System
Sinus Tachycardia

Anyway, i just joined a gym and found out on the assessment that my resting heart rate is about 101 and when i was on a cardio machine, the stairmaster, i saw on the heart rate monitor that it reached 210( after only a few minutes on the machine), i didn't know what was normal so i didn't think anything of it. I then asked my mother as she was in the health care field and she says that's a crazy heart rate. I do martial arts so it's not like i'm sitting around aaaaaaallll the time although i have been getting back into internet marketing lately so spending more time on the computer. I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow but i'm looking for some information in the mean time.
I'm nervous. Thanks guys and gals
i'm 15 years old
----------

If you really think its something you need to check on i would suggest you go to your doctors to find out if the reading you got from the machine was true! It could be that the machine is out of wack and needs to be fixed!

Also when checking your Resting heart rate you need to check it right after you wake up... that will be the most accurate way to check it... otherwise your resting heart rate will turn up to be 101 bpm.
So check your RHR tomorrow morning and if it still says over 80 beats per minute then you should go to the doctors!  (+ info)

Question about ear pain?

Ive had ear pain going on now for about a week. I saw the NP at my college and she said that I did not have an infection and gave me medication for allergies. Last night, I was still in pain and ended up seeing my family doctor who said I didnt have an ear infection but I did have alittle fluid in both ears. The pain is behind my right ear and there is alot of pressure behind it. I also have pain in my forehead. Can the Dr tell if I have mastoiditis just by examining me? Im scared I may have it and it was overlooked.
----------

Of course the Dr can tell. If you have fluid trapped anywhere in the body then you will naturally feel a pressure build up, and it works the same way with solubles as it does with insolubles, such as food when you eat to much food you feel full or bloated because of a pressure build up.
As far as the diagnosis is concerned, you are going to have to trust your doctors instinct as he is medically trained to give a professional opinion from what he has seen. If you are still really unsure, then i would recommend getting a second opinion from a recommended diagnostician.  (+ info)

Help regarding intense headache last night?

My ears, teeth, neck and eyes really hurt something bad and could not even face food last night. I took 3 10mg codeine (separately about 1-2 hours apart) but these did not work although they made me a little drowsy. Assuming a tension headache, but I was out a bit yesterday job hunting, and I do tend to get ear type headaches in the cold (had perforated ear drum and chronic mastoiditis in the past). I was at home when I took the medication - I don't ever drive when I take these. I eventually took a 30mg codeine about 10pm, after about 5 hours with no let up, so a total of 60mg codeine in that time. Although I have the 30mg codeine on script I usually don't take these unless I really need to for shin splints/back disc prolapse/neck injury pains - I try to manage with the 10mg once daily (which make it bearable). I later took a 10mg Temazepam to help me sleep, which did work.

Today my vision is quite blurry (even with prescription lenses) and I still feel a bit headachy and generally unwell. Not working (so can stay home) but need to be out job seeking. Any suggestions/advice?
----------

well all i can say is please please go get it checkd out by a doctor. it could be serious or it cuold be sumthing very minor but just be safe and go get check out  (+ info)
