Does anyone know anything about Mastoiditis? ?

I'm the perfect candidate for "Mystery Diagnosis." I've been labeled with everything from cluster headaches to trigeminal neuralgia. Now they say I have mastoiditis. Does anyone know about this? Any cures?
----------

It normally is the result of an acute ear infection. There are a few treatments,,, antibiotics injections and oral,,, and in some cases surgery may be required.
Here are two links that will help you. The first is the Nat'l Institute of Health site on mastoiditis,, the second is a symptom tool

Has anyone had mastoiditis?

I was diagnosed with mastoiditis yesterday. I had never heard of it before then. I have had pain there for almost 2 weeks, so its been going on at least that long. I read a little online and it said it can be difficult to treat. Has anyone ever had it? Do you remember what medications you took? Did it work and how long did it take to stop hurting? Thanks so much for your help!

When I was really young (2 or 3) I went in to the hospital for a mastoiditis. I don't really know specifically what it is/was but I ultimately ended up getting a string of really bad ear infections, had spinal fluids leaking in to my brain cavity, and ended up having 3 brain surgeries to drain the fluid. I don't know if the spinal fluid was from the mastoiditis or from the ear infections but that's what happened to me, almost died supposedly.

20 years later I'm fine and don't really recall anything horrific regarding the procedure. My hearing sucks but that's probably just from all of the loud parties.  (+ info)

I have heard about this illness, bit not experienced it.

What I do know its quite painful if left untreated.

I would say be brave and and don't give up.  (+ info)

Does Anyone Know About, Mastoiditis?

Ive Recently Had A CT Scan Done On The Temporal Bones Of My Head... The Conclusion Was:

Nonspecific Opacification of the middle ear cavities, paticularly involving the attics.
There is also opacification of the mastoid aircells.
features would be compatible with bilateral otitis media and mastoiditis. it is not possible to exclude other pathology such as cholesteatoma.

Can Anyone Help Me OnThis?? I Cant Seem To Find Anything About It Elsewhere.. :-(
----------

Mastoiditis is an infection of the mastoid bone of the skull.

Otitis media (also known as glue ear) is an inflammation of the middle ear segment of the ear. It is usually associated with a buildup of fluid and frequently causes an earache. The fluid may or may not be infected.

A cholesteatoma is a skin growth that occurs in an abnormal location, the middle ear behind the eardrum. It is usually due to repeated infection, which causes an ingrowth of the skin of the eardrum.

These links give much more information. I hope this helps.  (+ info)

mastoiditis? question please answer.?

i am not sure if i have mastoiditis or not. the lumpy bone that is behind my ear hurts (about mid way on my ear). i am not sure if this is where the mastoid is or not. i just know that it is in that general area.
it is kinda a stinging pain. i am not sure what type of pain is accompanied with mastoiditis.
the reason why i am concerned is because i had a pretty bad ear infection about 3 weeks ago. i took antibiotics and it got better.
and then a few days ago my ear started to hurt a little. but i wanted to wait and see if it was nothing.

does this sound like mastoiditis? should i wait and see if the pain behind my ear goes away in a day or two or should i go see a dr.?
thanks :)

Sounds like it to me. The bump behind your ear is your mastoid, and if it hurts, it sounds inflamed, probably infected. I'd go get it checked out asap.

Good luck.  (+ info)

How quickly does MASTOIDITIS spread?

I was told its from an inner ear infection and i know that was over a month and a half ago i had the ear infection..my question is how fast does mastoiditis spread? i have read all about what can happen but upon my diagnosis they didnt mention how quickly it could spread, so here i am now wondering how fast it goes because they told me i need to see and ENT (ears nose and throat) specialist and i called around the soonest opening they have is 1 month away i was prescribed antibiotics however they are very costly and i just spent what i had left going to the ER they did give me one dose of antibiotics before i left the ER...i know your wondering how i dont have the money for my health but i get paid every 2 weeks and just got paid and like i said spent it all....and of course no insurance for now. so please i need to know the rate it spreads...thank you

The mastoid bone is behind the ear. It is a pourous boney tissue that can get infected from the ear, or the jaw or mouth.Infections of any of the bones of the face can lead to very serious issues.Mastoid infections can potentially spread to your jaw bones, sinus bones, and by some mechanisms even into the brain.
Seriously, the last time I got some antibiotics was 20 bucks. If you don't have THAT borrow it.  (+ info)

I am concerned i have Mastoiditis? Please help me? ?

I am experiencing pain in the back of my ear/skull. there is a ball-like tumorish thing. So i hope you are understand which part of my ear i am talking about. It isnt in my ear, but BEHIND it. Its sore, kind of like when you have had a head band on for too long and you take it off (ladies you know what im talking about). But it is not that reason. Anyway. I have compared both ears, My right one has a tumor like substance. If it is Mastoiditis, do i need to see a doctor urgently? Or if it is not, what else could this beeee?? I'm a bit frightend. This is crazy! Do I have Mastoiditis or not! My doctor is dumb!!?

Ok
Since the end of June, I found a bump behind me ear in the mastoid area. It was very sore and if my glasses touched it, the bump would hurt like crazy. I took a CT Scan and the doctor said that they could only see soft tissue except the bump is extremely hard!! It doesn't hurt anymore but the bump is very big. And then, two days ago I found another bump that is on the lower side of the back of my head and now that hurts a lot. I am afraid that if it is Mastoiditis, it is spreading to the brain. But is it??? Thanks so much I'm worried sick :( I can't sleep.

Thanks

Well obviously no one on here can give you an accurate diagnosis.

So if I were you I would get a referral to either an ENT doctor or a neurologist and see what they think.

Second opinions are always a good thing.  (+ info)
