A sarcoma (cancer) where the malignant cells look spindle shaped when examined under a microscope. You didn't give a tumor location, so I'm guessing that these links might be helpful.

Does anyone know the prognosis of a Sarcoma that metastasis to the lung?

Had a sarcoma removed chemo etc.. clear.. then mets to the lung a year later. This is a friends sitch.... cant find anything online.
----------

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's sarcoma coming back, particularly after what sounds like an aggressive initial treatment.

There are a lot of possible contributing factors to prognosis:

Tumor related - the initial tumor size, the type of sarcoma (or histology), other pathologic features, and current extent of lung metastasis;

Patient related - age, health, response to previous treatment and functional status.

In a healthy person with a limited number of lung lesions, it is worthwhile considering a visit to a surgical oncologist at a major cancer center (MSKCC, MDACC, FCCC, DFCI to name a few). In some patients cure is still possible.

Regardless, your friend should see a sarcoma specialist to understand better his/her prognosis. My thoughts are with you and your friend.  (+ info)

what is the best known treatment for a desmoid sarcoma?

My daughter has a desmoid sarcoma in her calf -ankle it has been excised radiated and she has taken anti estrogen treatments. Now she is undergoing chemo therapy as this has returned several times. Drs believe it could sattelite if her leg was amputated. Thanks for your input
----------

Desmoid tumors are not strictly sarcoma's because they do not generally metastastize. However, because they tend to reoccur and can be stubborn they probably should be treated by a sarcoma specialist.

For the latest treatment guidelines you can check the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Clinical Guidelines for Soft Tissue Sarcoma. There is a section for the treatment of Desmoid Sarcoma.

You should also consider joining a support group for Desmoid Sarcoma to keep up with latest treatment options and just for support!

Sarcoma Cancer Has anyone any experience with it?

I have a family member that was just diagnosed with sarcoma and i just want to know if anyone has any experience with this type of cancer, is it especially aggressive or are there chances good? The doctor said it is especially rare and has never seen this in his 30 years of being a doctor.
----------

I"m very experienced with sarcoma as my son dealt with a rare abdominal sarcoma (dsrct) for three years before passing away. There are over 50 subtypes of sarcoma and some are more aggressive than others. The overwhelming majority of adult oncologists have little to no experience treating sarcoma . . although they will try to convince you otherwise. Sarcoma patients need to be treated by a sarcoma specialist, preferably at a sarcoma center . .especially adults. Sarcoma is rare in adults . . and far more common in children, teens, and young adults . . so in some cases it makes more sense for an adult with sarcoma to locate a pediatric oncologist either for treatment or for consultation. In either case . . your family member needs a sarcoma specialist for the best chances against this monster. Many of the major cancer centers also offer a sarcoma center and oncologists who specialize in sarcoma. The Sarcoma Alliance has put together a list of these centers. You can also join the Sarcoma Alliance and ask members for recommendations about who treats this type of sarcoma:

You do not mention the subtype of sarcoma, but there are groups that can offer support and resources depending on sarcoma type. If the disease is undifferentiated than the Sarcoma Alliance may help.

The Association of Online Cancer Resources offers an active Sarcoma listserv with many patients sharing information, support, and resources . . urge your family member to join:

What is the survial rate with Sarcoma cancer?

I'm 34, doctors found a tumor in my uterus....removed it a week ago...then told me there were some odd cells that were on the tumor...they called it Sarcoma. What is going to happen next? what can I do? what are the treatments?is it to late for me?
----------

There are about 40 different types of sarcoma (cancer of the connective tissue such as blood vessels, muscles, bones, cartilage) so the first thing you need to do is ask the specific name of the sarcoma. You than need to ask what the stage and grade of the tumor as that will determine treatment. And, your next best thing to do is to go to a sarcoma cancer center or at least insist on being treated by a sarcoma specialist. Sarcoma is a rare, rare disease and very few regular oncologists have treated it . . so many make the wrong assumptions about how it should be treated. Find a sarcoma specialist here:

And, no it is not too late for you. You need to find out as much information as possible and make some critical decisions regarding treatment. But sarcoma of the uterus can be treated, but first things first . . find out the name of the sarcoma and find a sarcoma specialist to help you fight this battle. Good luck.  (+ info)

Are there any alternative treatments to Sarcoma Cancer ( in the lung) than chemo therapy?

A family member of mine has this type of cancer. She has had it before. About 3 months ago she had surgery and now it's back. This time it's more aggressive than before. The Doctor says that chemo would only hurt her. Please, I need to know alternative treatments.
----------

Some sarcomas are very resistant to chemotherapy/radiation, so chances are that her doctor is telling her the truth - as awful as it is. And recurrence after only 3 months is bad. There are lots of alternative practitioners who claim they can do just about anything. You have to be very critical when analyzing their claims - even if their testimonials sound very persuasive. Instead of trying out various dubious alternative treatments you might find it more fruitful to help her enjoy the time as best as possible.  (+ info)

Where does Sarcoma cancer usually grow and progress?

And yes, I know that there are many types of sarcoma
----------

There are three different categories for cancer: carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and sarcoma. Carcinoma is cancer that arises from endodermal or ectodermal cells (basically, epithelial and endothelial cells). Some examples of carcinomas are lung cancer, skin cancer and stomach cancer. Adenocarcinomas arise from glands within epithelial tissues, like ductal carcinoma in the breast. Sarcoma can occur in any mesoderm tissues, such as the muscles, bones and blood. Some examples of sarcomas are leukemia and lymphoma.  (+ info)

Does anyone have any information on myeloid sarcoma?

My 6 year old nephew has suffered from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, he has now been diagnosed with Myeloid Sarcoma. Is this related to AML? My sister and her husband are in bits and I don't want to harrass them about it, just be there for them, so if anyone on here has any information on this condition it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
----------

Yes, it appears to be related to AML in previously treated patients and may indicate a relapse of the disease if he was in remission. There are many manifestations or reasons for the appearance of the tumor that would relate directly to your nephews individual case. But, yes, there is an association.

Can you pass soft tissue Sarcoma down to your children?

I want to know if I have children if there is chance that I would be passing this on to them.
----------

Cancer is rarely hereditary and if your oncologist thought yours may be, he or she would most likely have suggesting testing. If you have reason to believe yours may be for some reason you should ask your oncologist about it. Cancer maybe hereditary if you have multiple family members, including first and second degree relatives, with the same cancer diagnosed at an early age for the disease.  (+ info)

Generally, what is the most optimistic prognosis in a panreatic sarcoma?

Any modern medical technique to at least delay the spread of the the cancer cells?
----------

I'm afraid the outlook is not good for pancreatic cancer. If they caught it very early, perhaps there is more hope. Go to Apex and read about the most interesting work they are doing with silver. It's fascinating.  (+ info)
