What skin disease similar to vitiligo causes lightening of skin, but not total loss of pigment?

I have lighter color dots of skin on my body, but they are not white. Someone told me there is a less severe form of vitiligo or a skin disease the lightens the skin, but doesn't totally loose all its color or pigmentation, only lighter skin. What is the disease of children that makes them grow older 4x faster?

What's that disease called? It's like the one Robin Williams had in his movie "Jack". Only it's not like the person will grow taller and will look like an adult. The person will grow older physiologically, as in, he'll get wrinkles and he will get diseases, like hypertension, etc, which commonly afflicts adults, people with congenital diseases, or those who don't have a heathly lifestyle.

Progeria -

Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome ("Progeria", or "HGPS") is a rare, fatal genetic condition characterized by an appearance of accelerated aging in children. Its name is derived from the Greek and means "prematurely old." While there are different forms of Progeria*, the classic type is Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, which was named after the doctors who first described it in England; in 1886 by Dr. Jonathan Hutchinson and in 1897 by Dr. Hastings Gilford.
HGPS is caused by a mutation in the gene called LMNA (pronounced, lamin - a). The LMNA gene produces the Lamin A protein, which is the structural scaffolding that holds the nucleus of a cell together. Researchers now believe that the defective Lamin A protein makes the nucleus unstable. That cellular instability appears to lead to the process of premature aging in Progeria.

Although they are born looking healthy, children with Progeria begin to display many characteristics of accelerated aging at around 18-24 months of age. Progeria signs include growth failure, loss of body fat and hair, aged-looking skin, stiffness of joints, hip dislocation, generalized atherosclerosis, cardiovascular (heart) disease and stroke. The children have a remarkably similar appearance, despite differing ethnic background. Children with Progeria die of atherosclerosis (heart disease) at an average age of thirteen years (with a range of about 8 - 21 years).

* Other progeroid syndromes include Werner's syndrome, also known as "adult progeria" which does not have an onset until the late teen years, with a life span into the 40's and 50's.  (+ info)

What is a microbial disease that is currently targeted for eradication, and what countries are targeted?

I cant find a disease that is CURRENTLY targeted for eradiction. Can anyone help?
----------

Locust - Welcome to ANSWERS. The only microbial disease that has ever been eradicated from the earth is smallpox in the past decades. This is a microbial (virus) disease, The one that is NOW targeted most for eradication is another viral disease = poliomyelitis (commonly called "polio"). The World Health Organization had originally set the year 2000 to eliminate this virus from th earth by a program of immunizations. The effort almost succeeded, but polio still exists in about 4 countries in the world: India, Nigeria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Efforts still continue to eradicate polio.  (+ info)

What disease or illness can masterbating cause?

I heard that masterbating can cause a disease or illness but I am not certain. Can it really cause a deadly disease? If masterbating can't cause anything, is it okay to do it with a wet rag?

Masterbating can cause sores. There was an autistic boy who masterbated with a paper towel (because of a sensation problem) . Got horrible sores that can lead to infection. Image if you got that flesh eating bacteria.  (+ info)

How long does it take for Lyme Disease symptoms to appear?

We just found a tick on my dog (golden retriever) and it probably was there since sunday, april 1st. I am concerned that she received Lyme Disease. I would like to know how long it takes for the symptoms of the disease to appear?
----------

The early signs of Lyme disease in dogs are supposed to be loss of appetite, fever and lethargy. Lameness may occur at the same time or may occur later. In some dogs, enlargement of the lymph nodes (usually generalized enlargement) occurs. In dogs, skin signs, heart disease, kidney problems and neurologic signs are reported to be rare. Symptoms of Lyme disease are usually delayed for several months but start to occur about 2 months after exposure and should show up by 5 to 6 months after a dog or
cat is bitten by a tick carrying the bacteria (Borrelia burgdorferi).  (+ info)

What are some important facts about heart disease?

For LO i have to do a poster saying the dangers of heart disease! Dose anyone know the causes and the effects of heart disease? Any important facts!
----------

The cause of heart disease are many, search heart disease risk factors, and you will find some are controllable (diet, body weight) while others are not (genetics) . Physiologically heart disease is the chronic narrowing of blood vessels due to hardening and/or thickening/and or inflammation of blood vessel walls, causing the heart to work harder.  (+ info)

What is coronary artery disease or hypertension?

Why do people get hypertension and what is it.Also what is coronary artery disease ?
----------

Artery is a plaque build-up in the arteries, causing the arteries to be less flexible and smaller inside than they would normally be. The arteries that bring blood back and forth to the heart have smaller openings in them than they normally would. When that happens, there is more pressure from the blood flowing through the arteries, so you can get high blood pressure from this. You can also get high blood pressure if your arteries are constricted from any other reason. Think of how water would flow through a hose. If you had a large hose with a large diameter, the water would flow gradually from the hose. If you put the same amount of water through a hose that is a lot smaller in diameter, the water would be under more pressure (you would see it spurting out faster and harder). Arteries that are larger in diameter make for lower blood pressure than arteries that have a smaller opening. If the doctor says it is O.K. try taking a multi-vitamin with high B vitamins in it, and then also eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables along with something in your diet that gives you some calcium. Ask your doctor what he thinks about it.  (+ info)
