What is the difference between a myocardial infarct, ischaemia and angina?

myocardial infarct -is when a portion of your heart dies from a complete lack of oxygen, usu from some type of occulusion.
ischaemia- is like mentioned above is you hearts starvation of oxyegen wich very well could lead to a myocardial infarction.
angina- is a portion of your heart dying as the result of being deprived of oxygen while exertion the heart. this happens because of a partial occlusion of a vessel in your heart cannot adequately supply the amount of oxygen your heart needs to correctly function. the only difference between an m.i. and angina is that angina goes away after the heart is being less exerted commonly from physical activity.  (+ info)

I have recently been diagnosed with angina. What are some natural things I might try?

I do have a cardiologist and a general practitioner but do not respond well to medicine.
----------

I had or have angina ... don't remember what that is though. High blood pressure? Heart failure?

Naturally I like the following from SwansonVitamins.com :
Cardio Health Oils -- Part # SWC056
CoQ10 - 60 mg (3 perday) SWU611
You can also get 100mg and just take 2 but for me the 60's seemed more effective. Possibly mental.
Garlic and CAyenne -- 200 caps SWG06
Heart Essentials -- SWC010

I had congestive heart failure a couple of years ago and nearly died when my aortic valve calcified and almost closed. I had hours to live when they replaced the valve and all turned out well.

The docs have me on carvedilol (generic for Coreg) 25mg -- great for rebuilding my heart. My heart went from 20% efficiency to 50% in the last year from this drug.

Cozaar - 100mg -- for HBP - hi blood pressure

Triamterene (generic for maxide) 75mg + HCTZ 50mg --- A Diuretic
(I split these tabs and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night before bed). It helps lower blood pressure and keeps my ankles from swelling.

When my heart was in congestive failure the Heart Essentials were NOTICEABLE. They really worked well.

You can order from Swanson online or by phone. I like Swanson because the quality is good the prices are LOW and shipping charges are minimal. Pay the extra $1.50 for the express service ... it saves about 3-5 days and is worth every penny. Sometimes you can get free shipping on $50 or more. They have an online catalog and you can get a catalog in the mail. It's a good catalog!

Good luck. Email me if you have more questions.

Peace, Love, and Light!

Can caffiene and ginsing combined cause a onetime angina attack, would there be enzymes in my blood?

Hi, I am a 32 f that experienced severe chest pain that radiated down through my leftarm and my left hand tingled like someone was putting needles in it. I had been drinking a drink for a couple of days because it was cheaper and it had extra caffiene and ginsing it. Anyways I was in the hospital overnight and all my tests came back normal I do not have heart disease. I was just wondering if the drink could have caused it. I do take an acid reflux medication but I don't feel it was acid reflux because I reacted to the nitro(3 of them) and was real tired afterwards, but that could have been because I quit drinking caffiene all together. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
----------

Caffeine makes your heart pump faster and harder, ginseng does the same thing. All though the doctors did not find any evidence, it sounds to me like a close call. I'd cut out any stimulants in your diet. Also if you do not eat well or get a decent amount of physical exercise, now is the time to start. Don't push yourself because you don't want another episode, but frankly you might have gotten a glimpse of your own death and that's one hell of a wake up call.  (+ info)

is it possible to reverse angina or heart disease?

I hear this and that, anyone have any opinions on the matter?
----------

I hope you're under a doctor's supervision!

That said...reverse it? I've heard of managing angina/heart disease. Angina is when the heart muscle doesn't get enough blood, but I am sure you already know this.

What does your cardiologist say? If you're not hooked up with one, do so immediately.

Eat right and exercise in accordance with protocol.

Best of luck.  (+ info)

is it common to have the occasional angina pain in the first 12 months after surgery?

is it common to have the occasional angina pain in the first twelve months after having a heart attack and open heart bypass surgery?
----------

Yes, it is very common and understandably very scary. I am sure you were probably given nitroglycerine tablets, if not then ask your doctor. Please go to the ER for any pains that have shortness of breath or leaves you dizzy or your skin cool and clammy or that are unrelieved with your nitroglycerine tablets taken 5 minutes apart x3.  (+ info)

What is the difference between angina and ischemia?

angina means chest pain -- however not all chest pain correlate to heart problems.
ischemia -- is lost of blood supply to the heart muscle, therefore this causes a pain in that certain are. myocardial ischemia, if untreated will eventually turn into myocardial infarction -- where in the muscle dies because of lack of blood supply and oxygen.  (+ info)

Factors that may precipitate an angina attack include of the following expect?

a. eating a large meal
b. an angry argument
c. walking down stairs
d. walking rapidly up a hill on a cold, or windy day
----------

Actually all can precipate, depending on the severity of the disease. But the least likely is: c. walking down stairs.

Large meal will increase the cardiac output as blood supply to the bowel is increased for digestive process. This increases the oxygen demand of the heart.

Angry argument increases heart rate and its oxygen demand, so does walking rapidly uphill.

Walking downstairs also does increase the heart rate above the resting state because of muscle movements, but the energy requirement will be lower as gravity assists the descend.  (+ info)

Is it hard to diagnose angina pectoris?

I have a friend and his doctors aren't sure but they believe its angina pectoris. Is it possible that they are wrong? Is angina pectoris a heart problem that isnt easily diagnosed? Are the symptoms too unclear or vast to be sure of? Even after taking many tests (ie ECG, stress tests, heart scans etc)?

What is the difference between heartburn and angina?

Heartburn comes from acid reflux, the movement of stomach acids back up the GI tract. Angina, on the other hand, is the buildup of plaque on the walls of the arteries. This is caused by excesses of low density lipoprtein (LDL), which is bad cholesterol. It is bad choloesterol because it cannot be absorbed into the bloodstream as quickly as high density lipoproteins (HDL). Therefore, it cannot be stored or used as energy, and remains in the arteries as a fatty substance called "plaque", much like the plaque found on your teeth. This buildup causes the arteriolar passages to become smaller and the arteries themselves to harden, which makes blood flow far more difficult. Angina often results in heart attacks, and, ultimately, death.  (+ info)

How much of a problem is chronic angina? Is it an unmet medical need? Arent there a lot of treatments avail?

Just trying to understand how big of a problem this is and the potential for Ranexa. It seems to me there are a lot of options available for people with this problem
----------

You are right. There are a lot of options - at least quite a few. Renexa is a last resort for people who have inoperable heart disease or have "non-obstructive" angina, aka "small vessel disease" (chest pain that behaves like angina but the patient has no critical blockages in their arteries) or Prinzmetal's angina.

There are the occasional patients who have been trialled on everything else - it either didn't work, the patient didn't tolerate it or both. The problem with Ranexa is that it seems like a black box medication. No one seems to have any idea WHY it works. This is a substantial hindrance to its usage because if you don't know why it works - it seems like you have no idea what it might interact with or what untoward effects it may exhibit - thereby potentially being risky for your patient.  (+ info)
