Are back pain and liver failure related?

My aunt overdosed on acetominophen, and has the symptoms of liver failure. However, she is complaining that she has terrible stabbing back pain in her middle back as well. She is going to the emergency room, but does anyone know if these two things are related?
----------

Guess your Aunt was taking the Acetaminophen for the back pain and it has upset her liver? I do not think they are related outside of being in pain and taking too many drugs. Best of Luck  (+ info)

How often does kidney function return if you suffered from acute renal failure?

Just wondering if any doctors out there happen to know...I suffered from kidney failure about 3 years ago from e coli and luckily my renal function returned (its not perfect but pretty good), but how often does kidney function NOT come back? (I take immunosuppresants for lupus nephritis and was wondering if it happened again I might not be so lucky...)
----------

My wife's has returned to normal twice after extreme renal failure due to Lupus Nephritis. Currently her renal function is normal. She is still taking immuno supressants (Myfortic - time released Cellcept). I'm sure you were given Cytoxan in the hospital. This medication seems to help greatly in returning the kidney's to normal function. Your kidneys are damaged due to nephritis which means swelling. If caught in time and treated quickly the swelling can be decreased before any permanent damage occurs. This is why it is important to see your nephrologist regularly.  (+ info)

What are the immediate effects of liver failure?

I had Hep C (and I still might). I've also been drinking quite a bit lately. I have been feeling pretty strange. I'm feeling stuff I've never felt before and it's not good. I suspect it could be my lliver.

What does it feel like when you're liver is failing?
----------

Some signs that your liver could be failing...

1) Jaundice (yellow of your skin or the whites of your eyes)

2) Ascites/Edema (swelling)

3) Increased ease of bruising

4) Change in mental status

5) Itching

There are other signs, but the easiest way to know would be to run some tests (LFTs, etc).  (+ info)

Is there anything that can reverse liver failure caused by secondary liver cancer?

My dad was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Appendix which spread to his liver. His liver is now failing and because of that so are his kidneys.
----------

no the prognosis is not good. i would say incurable and terminal. Once you have secondary cancer it is very hard to treat because ti continues to spread to other organs in the body. My mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer last may.. it spread to her liver and lungs she pasted away Sept 7 aged 60 after only a short 4 month battle. It was very aggressive and there was nothing they could do. Mums liver , kidneys shut down slowly over that period and the cancer spread into her neck and bones. you are best speaking with the oncologist....  (+ info)

Can liver failure be linked to memory loss?

I know it may sound stupid but, I went to see my grandfather in the hospital, and I realized he doesn't remember quite a few things, can someone lose memory due to liver failure?
----------

Yes it can. A person with liver failure usually has high ammonia levels due to the liver not functioning very well. This causes a brain condition called encephalopathy. Typical symptoms of this is confusion, memory loss, and behavior changes. Lactulose is the most common medication used to treat it. This is a problem with anyone suffering from liver failure.  (+ info)

can someone die from pancreatitus with early stage liver failure?

My mom was taken into the hospital yesterday. She has pancretitus and early stage liver failure. Today when she called she said that they had her sighn a power of attourney and an organ donation paper. She said that if she doesnt get better in 4 to 5 days they will send her home, basically to die. Do you think there is any possability of that happening?
----------

Severe pancreatitis can be difficult to treat and can have many complications. Liver failure complicates the picture and there really are no good treatments for liver failure. (aside from transplant). You need to speak with the doctors so that you and your family understand the options available. In some cases treatment just prolongs the inevitable and your mom may want to avoid excess procedures and treatments and be made comfortable.  (+ info)

Hypoglycemia and liver failure - what IS the relation?

I've read about how Hypo can develop in the late stages of liver failure, does this mean that there would be other symptoms present? If so, what would be the ones that could be expected at a stage where Hypo is present?
I am near sure I have reactive Hypoglycemia (dr appointment is tomorrow) but I am wondering - would I see more indications of liver failure at the stage of hypo being highly present?
----------

Hypoglycemia occurs in liver failure due to the lack of glycogen stores (these are your sugar reserves).
Other symptoms of liver failure include engorged veins in the esophagus (esophageal varices) which can cause severe bleeding, coagulopathy due to inability of the liver to produce clotting factors, encephalopathy due to inability to filter toxins and more.
