How long does it take for tooth abscess antibiotics to take away the pain?

I'm on Cipro for a tooth abscess. I have only been taking it for a day and a half, but if possible, I would like to know when I can expect the pain and swelling to go down. I can't sleep, I can barely eat, and I can hardly function with all the painkillers that I am taking (and are barely even working anymore). :(
----------

Most likely around day 3 you should start feeling the pain go away, I too have been on Cipro for an abcess and it has taken around that long for me to notice it going away without pain meds.  (+ info)

Can an abscess have the same symptoms as a bladder infection?

I have been having symptoms of bladder infection for about a week now, the doctor did an analysis of my urine and he didn't find any bacteria growth. He did a check up with me and thinks that I have an abscess. Could this be the cause of the pain and of the blood in my urine?
----------

Abscess are very dangerous. My dad is finally recovering from abscesses all over his (internal) structure. According to his doctor, he nearly died. Stay on top of this!!

Blood in the urine can mean an E-Coli infection in your bladder. It's very painful and can make your urine look almost entirely bloody.  (+ info)

How long before the tooth turns into an abscess?

It is on my front tooth between the front teeth. I saw my dentist last July, and he didn't say anything about a cavity being there.

The tooth is sort of stinging a bit. Not throbbing, and you can't really see it unless you look really close. It's more on an annoying sensation.

My dental insurance doesn't kick in again until December 1st.

What are the chances it will abscess by then?
----------

It could be in abscess right now, only your dentist can tell. This could be dangerous, an abscess in a tooth can bring the infection directly to the heart and really give you a problem. If I were you I'd have him check it out and see if you can wait 'till dec. Don't mess around with this.  (+ info)

If you brush your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste and use ACT mouthwash 3 times a day, it should be okay until December.  (+ info)

Why does my abscess pop and then comes back a few minutes later?

I have had what I what I believe to be an ongoing abscess for about 4 years now. It's a large bump on my gum and occasionally it swells and gives me a lot of pain, even a high temperature. Like now, it has popped several times when rinsing with baking soda and peroxide. Then moments later it swells again.

You need to go to a denist TODAY - if you cannot afford to go to the denist you MUST GO TO A MEDICAL clinic and ask for Antibiotics - Amoxil in Australia.

Be aware that dental abscesses can and do spread fast - to the brain - we recently had a 14 year old in my home town who died because his mother did not want to pay for a dentist.

Most doctors will at least give you the drugs to stop the infection if you promise to go to a dentist. Do NOT go from doctor to doctor for more antibiotics.  (+ info)

How long does it take for a tooth abscess to develope?

I noticed a lump on my gum next to a tooth that is heavily filled so i went to see the dentist, he said it was on the verge of turning into an abscess and gave me antibiotics for 5 days, i have 2 more tablets to take and i notice no difference to the lump but i am due to go abroad tomorrow and am scared it will turn into an abscess on holiday! Anyone know how long it takes for an abscess to develope?
----------

It takes about 24 hours to 72 hours to form and the antibiotics are not really to reduce the size of the abcess, it targets the bacteria in there to reduce there potency, the size can only be reduced by draining it, tell him you going abroad as flying with an abcessed tooth is no no  (+ info)

Is it good for your liver to drink alcohol?

I know that too much alcohol does harm to the liver, but my cousin said that a little bit of alcohol is actually good because it "trains" the liver for when you get older and have to face illnesses. He also said that never-drinking alcohol could actually be bad because your liver's not getting "practice." I hope you get the jist.

Is he right?
----------

i'm not sure if your cousin may just be 'guessing' that this is the case as it may seem sensible. a thought that comes to my mind would be alcohol is bad for and therefore weakens the liver. but that is just my guess, i'm not an expert. i do hear a glass of wine a day is good for you. research this on google for deeper explanations.  (+ info)

Which antibiotic is generally prescribed for a person suffering from an anal abscess?

My father has an anal abscess, it was drained but he has not received antibiotics so far and it's been two weeks. He has now been advised by two different, more experienced gastroinestinologists than the one he went to that he does need antibiotics. Question is, which brand of antiobiotics is the appropriate one for something like an anal abscess?
----------

Whatever one the doctor thinks is most appropriate. I'm not an expert, but I do know that there are drug interaction and side-effect issues that his doctor will need to take into account and it's really more then we can get into here on this website.  (+ info)

How does a liver transplant work if the donor is still alive?

I watched this documentary where the father was donating his liver to his son.

How is this possible, do they extract pieces, can you live without a liver?
----------

I believe the living donor can spare up to 60% of his/her liver to the recipient. Each person will grow back their missing portion in about 6 weeks. It's an amazing organ.  (+ info)

What can damage the liver apart from drinking too much alcohol?

A lot of people know that drinking too much alcohol can damage the liver. What else can damage the liver? Taking too much of certain medications, contracting hepatitis of all kinds...
Anything else?
Thanks.

Anything that goes through it.  (+ info)
