What are the chances of one parent having congenital heart disease of passing it onto their children?

Hello,

My husband was born with congenital heart disease (tetralogy of fallot), he is however an otherwise healthy 25 year old with no history of heart disease in his family background. I am a fit and healthy 24 year old with no background of heart disease in my family. I would like to know what are the statistics/chances that our children would end up being born with congenital heart disease?

Is there any way to treat lipodystrophy in diabetics?

I rotate spots often, but I have to take 4 shots a day. I usually only get these bumps on my arms where I am taking a high dose of insulin.
----------

i don't know many ways to treat it. avoid the place in which lipodistrophy has developed,.
For the rapid acting insulin try the abdominal area (the absorbtion is better, faster, more predictable, and you have more place to rotate), for the intermediate or long acting the best place is the tigh.
A massage of the areas affected can be useful.
When you inject a high dose, the chance of developing lypodistrophy is higher. For doses higher than 30 units I would recommend splitting the dose in 2 and injecting it separately.  (+ info)

What can cause generalized bone pain, including on the bridge of the nose?

My sister is 43 y/o and an athlete. She has been complaining of generalized bone pain for a couple of month, and this week she started w/ pain on the bridge of her nose. Her nose is not swollen but when you touch it it hurts.
----------

Your sister needs to see her doctor If, as you say, she has 'generalised bone pain'.
The term 'Bone pain' (or Ostealgia, or Osteodynia) generally is used to refer to pain felt within a bone.

The cause of the bone pain may not be immediately apparent, and further testing is usually warranted (CBC, x-rays, etc.).

Usually, the cause of bone pain is an underlying medical disorder or past bone trauma.

She could have a serious underlying condition.  (+ info)

What are good exercises for Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

I'm 15 years old and have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. What exercises can I do to feel relaxed and good? Now that school is over in a few days, I plan on exercising every day. What is a good website that show exercises for this king of problem? Also what are good breathing exercises?
----------

one thing that really has helped me is yoga. enroll in a class if you can afford it--there are probably many summer sessions just starting up right now. i've learned simple breathing techniques that help me fall asleep without hours of lying awake and that i do in the car on my way to basically any social situation. nothing clears my head and helps me feel in control like it!!

good luck!  (+ info)

How can I test if I have generalized anxiety disorder?

I feel anxious all of the time and I have read about generalized anxiety disorder. Is there another way, besides therapy, that I can be daignosed?
----------

Yes, I went to my family doctor, and described how I had been feeling he asked me several questions, checked my vitals and gave me a prescription for anti anxiety meds. Since then just knowing what's causing this has made me feel so much better, before I was always scared there was some horrible physical illness causing me to feel this way, now I know and feel much better. Please see your dr, you will be glad afterwards, good luck, you'll get thru this :-)  (+ info)

Is there any long-term effects to early treated Congenital Hypothyroidism?

I have had Congenital Hypothyroidism all of my life, i was diagnosed at 2 days old. I have been taking Levothyroxine since i was 2 days old also. I am now 16, but I am curious if there are any long term effects of living with it. For some reason I have never really looked into my disease that much.
----------

Possible long term problems appear to be in the areas of memory, attention and visual spacial problems but as yours has been treated since day 2, you may not experience any of these.  (+ info)

How soon after HIV infection can facial wasting/ lipodystrophy/lipoatrophy occur?

I am just wondering how long it would take for facial wasting (sunken in, hollow checks) to occur after HIV infection.
Can HIV on its own cause hollow cheeks/ after only a few months (2-6 months) of infection?
If not, what else could be the cause of hollow, sunken inn cheeks, that are continuing to become more hollow, be?
----------

It depends on your immune system, how long it can cope until being fully suseptible to facial wasting. People live up to 10 years or more without any way of knowing they had it.  (+ info)
