What is leukorrhea? can anyone define in detail?

Leukorrhea - is a medical term that denotes a thick, whitish vaginal discharge. It results from inflammation or congestion of the vaginal mucosa. In case it is yellowish or gives off an odour, it ceases to be healthy and a doctor should be consulted.

Leukorrhea is a sign that the vagina is healthy and keeping clean. It may sometimes occur before a girl has her first period, and is considered a sign of puberty.

There are many causes of leukorrhea, the usual one being increased estrogen. The amount of discharge may increase due to vaginal infection or STDs, in which case it becomes more yellow and foul-smelling. Vaginal discharge is normal for a woman, and all women are different. Causes of change in discharge include infection, malignancy, and hormonal changes.

Leukorrhea may occur normally during pregnancy. This is caused by increased bloodflow to the vagina due to increased estrogen. Female infants may have leukorrhea for a short time after birth due to their in-uterine exposure to estrogen.

Its usually a non-pathological symptom secondary to inflammatory conditions of Vagina or cervix.-  (+ info)

discharge in early pregnancy? Leukorrhea?

I've been ttc for 2 months now..and my period is due nov 8th.So I've already ovulated. but today i felt a like my body push discharge out of me. it was kinda alot but not like a period or anything. it was enough where i just changed my underwear.and that was the last of it. now im dry( like i normally am after ovulation.)
but i read about Leukorrhea happening as an early pregnancy symptom. has anyone had leukorrhea before they knew they were pregnant?
----------

I just Wiki'd it, and it said the cause is usually an estrogen imbalance, either increasing or decreasing, and that its a defense mechanism the vagina uses to maintain chemical balance. I do know that your progesterone stays elevated when you are pregnant. If the discharge is unusual for you, you may want to see a doctor to be sure it is not a yeast infection or STD.  (+ info)

A question about leukorrhea?

So, I was reading that when you're pregnant, like a week or so after you conceive, some girls will get leukorrhea discharge. Is this a reliable sign? I know what leukorrhea discharge looks like, it's much different from regular discharge.
----------

I don't know about it being a 'reliable sign' but I think most women experience it during pregnancy. I'm trying to remember when I started noticing it...I don't think it was as early as a week post conception. It became the most noticeable at around 12 weeks for me and now again that I'm hitting 39 weeks.

But as they say...every woman is different.  (+ info)

Leukorrhea during teenage years?

Is it normal to have leukorrhea during teenage years?Cause I think I have.I am 14 yo and I have this thick sticky white discharge(not all the time)(no itching).I had my period.(2 years)
----------

Are you pregnant? Leukorrhea is usually only during pregnancy. It can be at other times too, but is usually then an indication of infection if it's accompanied by any itching, burning, or pain. If there's none of that then it's probably just your natural cervical mucus. Nothing to worry about. Especially at your age, your hormones are going crazy through puberty.  (+ info)

I have discharge that is the same as the definition below am i preg?

The term for vaginal discharge is leukorrhea, and this is the same vaginal discharge that you may have occasionally had before you became pregnant. It is typically odorless or has just a mild smell, and will probably be somewhat milky. Occasionally, you might find something of a reddish to brown tint to your vaginal discharge. If you do, this typically indicates "spotting" or light bleeding.
I also have stomach pains off and on and major fatigue along with nausea and weak too
I took a preg test but it camp up negative but im like pretty sure i am preg im only 2 days late on my period so maybe it was too early for hpt
