What is the difference between a dentist and an oral surgeon?

So I went to the dentist last week and they told me I have to see an oral surgeon because the tooth is curved or something like that. What is the difference? Also will they do anything different to pull the tooth or do they just have different tools to use? I'm confused, someone please tell me the difference.
BTW it's to get a tooth pulled.
When you say general anesthesia do you mean just the regular needle they give you in the gum or do you mean they would have to put me to sleep, because I really don't want to be put to sleep.

A dentist does general work like cavities, crowns, root canals, etc.

And oral surgeon is more educated and perform surgeries such as removing wisdom teeth and things like that. (more complicated procedures.)

I'm not to sure at all but if it is extremely curved the oral surgeon many have to cut the gum and give you stitches, normal dentist don't do that. Blah, I hope i didn't scare you. And sorry if i am wrong.  (+ info)

Does the Oral B sonic toothbrush work almost as good as that expensive Sonicare toothbrush?

I have just bought one of those Oral B sonic toothbrushes for $18.95. I was just wondering if I have wasted my money or not.
----------

hey there,

I would personally discard oral B and sonicare for toothbrushes. I don't like electric toothbrushes as they are just fancy gimmicks. I would suggest getting this toothbrush its called the soladey. You dont need toothpaste with it and it works even better then everything else. you can buy it on the net. Google it.  (+ info)

How useful is using the power tip with the oral b electric toothbrush?

I floss and brush regularly, but my dental hygenist regularly hands me the tiny internal brushes. I find them hard to use on the inside (gum side) of the teeth.

I noticed that the oral b electric toothbrushes come with a powertip. I wonder if using it is useful in addition to the flossing and brushing.

Can you contact anything through multiple oral sex?

When I was dating my ex I use to pleasure her through oral sex among other things, now I haven't contacted anything from her as far as I know.
I'm planning on doing the same with my current girlfriend, but I'm not sure if its a good idea to do so. Can I contact anything through multiple oral sex?
----------

STDs you can contract from unprotected oral sex:

1) Herpes- the biggest STD risk during oral sex since both strains can live in the mouth or the genitals. Herpes is especially contagious during outbreaks (cold sores, herpes lesions). Some believe it is contagious for a few days before and after the outbreak as well.

2) Both chlamydia and gonorrhea can infect your throat giving you strep like symptoms.

3) HIV can be passed through unprotected oral sex, but it is more likely to be passed during unprotected penetrative sex. The infected fluid has to enter through a cut or sore in the mouth or esophagus to cause infection. It's not likely to be passed, but it is possible.

4) HPV can be passed during oral sex, but it is rare. HPV has been found on vocal chords.

5) Syphilis can be passed similar to HIV through a cut or sore.

Your doctor can see if you have been exposed to these diseases by doing simple tests. It's unlikely that you contracted anything from oral sex, but it's always smart to know where you are at.

The best plan for the future:
Make sure you don't have any cuts or sores in your mouth. Use a dental dam (Lolly), either buy one or make one from saran wrap or a cut up latex glove. If she does you, use a condom with spermicide, flavors are nice. If she does get sperm in her mouth, she should either spit or swallow, but not just let them sit there (sitting sperm in the mouth does increase the STD contraction risk)... and with all those rules, have fun. =)  (+ info)

What harm can oral surgery due to a pregnancy if you were not aware of being pregnant?

I had oral surgery on Friday! I was put to sleep for the extractions and given pain meds. I found out on Tuesday that I was pregnant! Now I am scared for the baby!
----------

In the past much dental and medical procedures were performed on women who did not know that they were pregnant. The vast majority of babies were fine and there were no problems. You can get more information from your OB doctor. I would also not take the pain meds and try to get by on Tylenol. I wouldn't worry.  (+ info)

What are some oral manifestations of Kaposi's Sarcoma and where can I get photos of this disease?

I am doing a research paper on this subject and have not been able to find some oral manifestations or photos thus far. Any ideas?
----------

involvement of the oral cavity is seen after that of the extremities and face. the oral lesions are same as cutaneous nodules i.e. they appear as reddish or brownish red nodules which may vary in size from a few mm to a cm or more in diameter. cervical lymph node and salivary gland involvement commonly precedes cutaneous and visceral involvement in African children.
