Is anyone or someone you know going through chronic lymphocytic leukemia?

I would really appreciate if anyone could me some information about this type of cancer. How they cope with their everday life, what are some of the symptons you get before it gets worst. How much longer does one normally have and how to deal and help with someone that has this type of cancer.

what are the chances of a person never showing any symptoms of chronic lymphatic leukemia?

my father has CLL and he is a stage 0 he has the disease but doesn't have any symptoms or show any symptoms. what is the chances that he stays that way and never progresses to a another stage?
----------

Hi. I type for oncologists, and I can honestly say that no one will probably have a definite answer for you. One patient whom they see has had stage 0 for 10+ years. But, in your father's case, regular checks of his white cell counts will help him. Even if those counts start rising, they already know the why, and probably can catch it before it escalates dangerously.

Be glad he has a diagnosis, in other words. That's half the battle. Now, you just keep an eye on it, as will his medical coordinators. Make sure that he always has access to insurance or state assistance, because he will carry this diagnosis, even if it stays at stage 0, for the rest of his life, and you and your family need to prepare accordingly.  (+ info)

What is Chronic Thrombocytopenia? Is a type of leukemia and is it fatal?

Thrombocytopenia is a low platelet count which can be treated with medication or surgery. It the platelet count gets low then platelet transfusion would be required.

Chronic thrombocytopenia is NOT leukemia

Platelets form clots when you get a cut and thus stop bleeding. So if your platelet cound gets to low then you could bleed to death much easier  (+ info)

About how common is Chronic Leukemia or Lymphoma in teenagers?

There is nothing called Chronic Lymphoma but there is a Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). It's extremely rare in general, but especially so in teenagers. When it occurs, it's mostly in adults over the age of 55. It almost never occurs in children and is extremely rare for younger adults. Over 2/3 of CLL patients are men.

Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) is also rare in children, teenagers, and young adults but it can occur. It's mainly diagnosed in older adults.  (+ info)

what are the chances of surviving chronic myeloid leukemia when you are in the chronic stage of the illness?

Chronic myeloid leukemia are treated over years, and occur most often in the senior (over 65 yr old) population. About 4 yrs ago, I met a 24 yr old who had it, and his oncologist sent him to University of Chicago for research and treatment.
I think the survival rate is good for the long term. Its so good, we rarely see these patients in the hospital Onco units. They are treated as out patients by their physicians and Oncologist and follow up regularly to keep an eye on the disease.
I imagine you would like to know how long the survival is since its a chronic disease, its very hard to say.  (+ info)
