Does this look like a safe website to donate to?

I'm a little nervous about donating money to causes on the internet, so I want to know if this website looks safe to you. This really means a lot to me, and I want to give something to LeioMyoSarcoma research. Thanks in advance!

Anyone know of any good sarcoma specialists, preferably in Northern, CA?

Mom has uterine leiomyosarcoma, she's gone through a first round of chemo, but her medical oncologist was not a sarcoma specialist and he doesn't want to continue treatment nor offer integrative / alternative treatments. Need to get some leads.
----------

Your mother should locate the nearest sarcoma center . . or be treated by a sarcoma specialist and not just a regular oncologist. The Sarcoma Alliance has put together a list of sarcoma centers that you can contact or ask to be referred . .there are at least seven in California.

My wife died eight years ago and I still miss her . Do some people NEVER get over the death of loved one?

She was a young, beautiful women by any standard. Within two years of being diagnosed with a rare, incurable cancer, leiomyosarcoma (soft tissue tumor). We never accepted the incurable part and she submitted reluctantly to operations, chemotherapy, radiation, and even a experimental drug. She suffered more than necessary, partly, I suppose, because I urged her to get the chemo after the first unsuccessful operation. After that, she accepted every new treatment and many hospitalizations. Sometimes I was relieved that she had to go to the hospital when her blood counts went bad. Still, she was upbeat a good part of the two years and even continued to work right up to a month before she died. There wasn't a dry eye in church when the funeral was held one morning. I grieved and received counseling, looked a little for a GF, but a year ago went into major depression. I'm in therapy and meds now for a year. & wish everyone would leave me alone. I live alone, travel alone and am alone.

sorry to hear that.. but as they say, it takes one to forget one. :) people may seem to think they will never get over it, but it is possible to. do the things you love to do such as ur hobbies. and hey, God maybe is calling you. and telling u something. your problems are nothing when you are in His presence. Pray. Lift up all ur burdens to Him. :) Hope this could help. :)  (+ info)

Can i get pregnant after a removal of a malignant fibroid? 99.9 % removal? does anyone know? any doctors out?

i JUST GOT THIS FIBROID REMOVED , ABOUT 99.9% TO BE EXACT. tHEY THINK IS A VERY LOW GRADE LEIOMYOSARCOMA.
THEY NEVER GOT TO THE LINING OF THE UTERUS. dO YOU THINK THIS CAN BE WATCHED OVER SO THAT I CAN BECOME PREGNANT? ANY HOPE OUT THERE FOR ME?
----------

You still are very capable of becoming pregnant in the future. However, just for good measure, you should look into increasing your fertility naturally when you're planning on conceiving with your partner. Herbs, lifestyle, diet - all of these things affect your chances of becoming pregnant.  (+ info)

Can you have sex with cancer?

OK I'm 17 and I've been diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma. So..please no one say anything about it, or ask any other details, but I didn't ask the doctor this obviously because I am 17, but me and my GF are just wondering if we can have sex with me having cancer, or is there some bad outcome from the cancer. (no one talk about underage age sex, we are both almost 18, and I know it sounds like typical teen BS talk, but we are both very mature and so is our relationship.)

I,m only 28! I recently got operated for a large fibroid. They sent it to a university for a pathology report?

The report was not so clear, but it states that it may act like a lower stage leiomyosarcoma, thats a cancer located in the uterus.
The thing is I was getting ready to have more kids and now the doctor tells me the only smart thing to do its to get reoperated and to get a total hysterectomy!!!...NOOOOOOOO..ah man my dreams cant be over..i am going for a second opinion because the results arent so clear. It even says it on paper taht is not clear...has anybody else have this or went through tghe same thing im going now and ended up that they didnt have it ..is a very rare case, like why me you know..tell me if theres anything else i can do ..thans guys~** :(
----------

Yes, i would say that it is rare. Rare disease and at a rare onset, your age. I would obtain a second opinion no matter of the first, especially when considering cancer or other major diseases. I might even get a third opinion.
sorry i cant comment on the specific disease.  (+ info)

Help!! Need to know!?

Do people with cancer experiece excruciating pain? My mom was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma. She just started chemo on monday. Lately she has just been in the bed with pain. I wished it was something i could do to help.
Oh my God, Thank you guys so much! I appreciate the prayers and the answers this is so hard because this is the first time my family has had to deal with something like this. I am the oldest girl so of course i'm always helping out. Sometimes i do get a little stressed with helping out around the house, going to school and trying to study especially with mid-terms coming up. I will take in all the advice you guys have given me. i will pray for you guys also. Thanks!!!

After receiving chemo, our cancer cells are targeted but unfortunately our good cells suffer as well. Chemo kills every cell it comes in contact with.
Usually 3 days after chemo our blood cells start rebuilding. This happens in the largest bones first. What happens is the marrow begins to rebuild and this causes pain. Its like terrible flu-like symptoms. This could last up to a week. Normally 10 days after a chemo treatment our immune systems are virtually nil. This is a crucial time for a chemo patient to stay away from crowds or anyone with a virus. Normally we start feeling quite well..... just in time for the next treatment.
If any fever occurs it is advisable to go to the E.R. immediately.
What I did to ease the pain was to take frequent warm short baths using Epsom salts. Tylenol would also help.
The reason for the frequent warm short baths is because long soaks will add to the drying of the skin that chemo already produces.
Its a trying time.. but visualize the chemo wiping out all those nasty cancer cells.
Make sure your mom drinks plenty of water to flush her system of the chemo.
All the best to you and your mom.  (+ info)

Hysterectomy vs. Freezing of Uterus (Cryosurgery)?

Hey everyone. I hope there is someone who knows about this that can help. Basically.. My sister (30) had Fibroids in her Uterus that were malignant (Leiomyosarcoma) I believe is what they called it. Her doc did a DNC and Hysterscopy and removed 4 Fibroids and 3 of them were Malignant. The doc basically told her now she needs to treat the area where she removed the fibroids to try to prevent them from coming back. She sat with her Gyn and a oncologist who gave her the option of a COMPLETE hysterectomy or freezing the uterus( which I believe is called Cryosurgery). They were not much help. Told her to research and call the office to make an appointment when she makes up her mind on what she wants to do.

Her main fear of a complete hysterectomy is going through menopause so early or having to go on hormone therapy, which she really doesn't want..

Anyone have any suggestions or been through this or am I luck enough to find a Doctor or nurse who knows more about this stuff..

Anyone can give me some pro's and con's or speak from experience It would be greatly appreciated!!

I have looked online and I find sites that don;t really give you much help! Just explain what it is!

PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks much!
Thanks.. they say that the malignant fbroids that they did remove were too close to her Fallopian tubes so they want to remove her ovaries too.
can anyone tell me alittle about the side effects if she does get the Hysterectomy..as in hormone therapy.. they did say she will have to be on hormones.. she is concerned about growing a beard...I know not funny but..lol...just sounds weird...
----------

I’m sorry, but that is one of the stupidest unprofessional things I have heard. Those doctors should have explained everything to her and gave her the pros and cons of each option – it’s their job. You don’t tell patients to research it themselves and get back to you!!

You and your sister should know she doesn’t have your everyday type of cancer. This is a rare cancer, only about 3-4% of all cancers in the uterus are this type and the fact that she is so young makes it more dangerous for her. I don’t want to sound mean, but early menopause is not the main fear here. She needs a hysterectomy.

She also needs an oncologist she can communicate and work well with. I think she should get a second opinion from a surgeon and oncologist at your closest teaching hospital. These hospitals are used to seeing the most unusual cases, often have some of the best equipment and are involved in cancer research so they tend to be on the cutting edge. Plus they typically explain things pretty well. It is impossible for her to make an informed decision if she doesn’t have some understanding of her disease. Best to you both.

EDIT: I hate to tell you this, but the biggest problem with taking hormones is it puts you at a higher risk for breast cancer. They are tolerated well and intended to help you NOT grow a beard. Please, please get another opinion.  (+ info)

Lump in throat, what could it be?

Lump in throat, what could it be?
I’m a twenty six year old female. I have always had allergies which bring on sinus problems. I try to maintain them with meds (Zyrtec D and Flonase daily). Whenever I get a sinus infection it is usually accompanied by ear pain and pressure in my left ear only. Sometimes there is an infection present or fluid build-up, but just as often there are no signs of what could be causing the pain and pressure.

2-3 months ago, I started having pretty persistent sinus infections (every 2-3 weeks) that didn’t seem to be brought on by any allergy symptoms. I had a severe stabbing pain in my left ear with fluid build up. My doctor would put me on antibiotics and the symptoms would improve, but never completely go away and then would return in a few weeks.

Two weeks ago the sinus and ear symptoms started again and a few days later I noticed a fleshy, hard, fixed lump (less than 1 cm in diameter) on the very back of my throat (pharyngeal wall). I went to my PCP , who said it was “nothing” and gave me 10 day course of antibiotics. I’ve been on the antibiotics for 9 days with only slight relief and the lump is still there. I called and she said there is no reason for me to see an ENT and to "wait it out."

Here are my symptoms:
-lump in throat
-persistent sinus issues
-intense ear pain/pressure, ear popping (left ear only)
-dizziness
-headaches
-blood streaked mucus (worse in the morning)
-voice hoarseness
-unintentional weight loss (15 lbs in 2-3 months)
-blurry vision, flashes
-extremely fatigued
-horrible breath/rotten taste in my mouth mainly coming from left side

Also, I am in a Li-Fraumeni family. My brother, my mom, all of her siblings, my grandfather, some of my cousins, and my cousin’s children had rare cancers (sometimes multiple cancers) at very young ages. Most notably my mom had a Chondrosarcoma (bone cancer) in her mouth at 34 and my uncle had a Leiomyosarcoma (a rare soft muscle tissue cancer) in his arm that started out as a small painless lump that doctors said was “nothing”. I have not been tested for the genetic mutation, but I feel as though this should at least considered by doctors treating me.

I saw an Internal MD with a specialty in genetics this week. She basically said the lump was nothing and didn’t acknowledge or try to explain any of the other symptoms. She said she will not run any kind of diagnostic tests on the lump until I test positive for the Li-Fraumeni mutation. I’m not comfortable with having the test before I acquire life insurance.

In order to get an MRI or CT, I have to get life insurance (which will probably require a physical), wait to have my blood drawn, wait for the results, wait to get an appointment with the Internal MD, then wait for a scan…

At this point, I’m desperate. Every doctor I go to says that people my age don’t get cancer even if they know about the mutation and my family history, yet they can’t explain my symptoms and don’t want to run any tests. I have an appointment with an ENT late next week but I’m not hopeful.

It’s not as simple as “go to a new doctor” because I’m limited by my insurance from switching PCPs more than once in one month.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
