Is there a cure for lead paint poisoning?

My 1 year old sister might have lead paint poisoning I need to know if there is a cure for it.
----------

I wish people would stop answering questions about lead unless they KNOW WHAT THEIR TALKING ABOUT !!!!

DO NOT START scrapping the paint off window sills or any other part of your house. That will make the problem worse. If she is chewing on any painted surface, give her something else to paly with that is not painted.

99% of the children that are lead poisoned don't EAT paint. They get it from lead that is in floor dust. There can be many sources of the lead in dust.

The only way to be sure of her condition is to have her blood tested. There are 2 types of tests. The first is a "Blood Lead Level" (BLL) test. This will tell how much she currently is carrying in her system. The second is a "Zinc ProtoProphin" (ZPP) test. This will tell if she has been cronicly exposed.

Her BLL test should be below 5 micrograms per deciliter (5 ug/dl). If it is at or above 5 she has exposure and a "risk assessment" should be done on your home by a professional.

please read pages 3 to 9 of this book. http://home.mindspring.com/~wrltc/lswp.pdf

It will give you a better understanding of the problem. I wrote this book for people doing remodeling, having it done and lead issues in general.

What happens after lead poisoning?

Does the lead literally stay in your body forever or is it flushed out? I'm NOT asking for the side effects or symptoms of lead poisoning... I know that aspect. I'm looking for the answer as to if lead stays in the body for an extended period of time after exposure.
----------

Once found, lead can be gotten out of the body. If lead levels are high, the doctor can give medications to help rid your body of the lead levels. The other thing that must be followed is a healthy diet because lead does not allow your body to absorb certain vitamins/minerals. Here is a website displaying a good diet and foods that will help take lead out of your system faster.

In adults, exposure to lead affects primarily the peripheral nervous system and can cause impairment and loss of hearing, vision, and muscle coordination. Lead also damages the blood (compromised immune system), kidneys, heart attacks, and reproductive system failure. Death can result from any of these long term effects.  (+ info)

Can i get lead poisoning from being stabbed by a mechanical pencil?

I stabbed myself (not on purpose) a few hours ago and now it is turning black. Also i am unsure if the lead broke off into my skin. Please Help!!
----------

no. today's pencil "lead" isn't actually lead at all, it's graphite.
As for why it's turning black, maybe you bruised it enough for it to turn black(?). idk  (+ info)

can you get lead poisoning from handling extension cords on a daily basis?

I noticed on the cords there is a warning lable that says it contains lead. Will that be a problem over time if you actually had direct contact with them every day?
----------

is the lead under the rubber/plastic covering around the wires or is the lead in the covering? If it is in the covering then wear gloves. Or else the lead will be absorbed all day long. Washing at the end of the day is too late. Does the warning label say anything about inhaling lead vapor/particles? You may also need a mask. UPDATE I just read about lead in extension cords. It has to be in the coloring of the wire and I guarantee that it was made in China. Buy a cord that does not have lead in it.  (+ info)

I have a kidney infection that might have lead to blood poisoning?

I have a kidney infection that went a while before it was diagnosed-what are the symptoms of blood poisoning?
----------

Not being up and able to post on yahoo answers generally. Bacteremia/Septicemia as it's called tends to manifest as a person feeling extremely bad, often delirious, with diffuse body aches/pains, high fever (>104), chills, and spread of the infection to multiple body organs.  (+ info)

What Eyeliners should I worry about for lead poisoning?

So I just found out that some eyeliners contain lead, but it's mostly ones with Kajal or real Kohl. But so many eyeliners say that they are Kohl, it's hard to know which ones really are and which ones aren't because most are just the same texture and color as real Kohl. It's all just confusing and I just want to know if anyone knows the specific eyeliners I should watch out for.

I have a question abot how to spot lead poisoning?

I have a 2007 Godzilla final wars 12 inch toy and someone told me it has lead in it. Are there any ways I could find out for myself?
----------

TOYS:
The quickest / easiest way to test paint on toys is to use a product called "Lead Check". They are small white tubes that deliver a chemical (sodium rodizinate) to the surface. There are other brands but I prefer Lead Check.

If there is leach-able lead it will turn color (pink or red). Which means children should not be allowed to chew or mouth them.

HINT: They cost about $3.00 each BUT !!! (Lead Check hates me to teach this) ... There are 5 to 7 drops in each tube. If you use a clean dry cotton swab on each item, you can get 5 to 7 tests.

For more info please read http://home.mindspring.com/~wrltc/lswp.pdf Its a book I wrote for parents doing re-modeling or having it done. And lead issues in general. It was paid for by a fed/state grant. Which means its your book as much as mine. Education about this subject is my job.

Can i get lead poisoning from canned juices?

I've heard that the lead from cans seep into the juices once they are opened. So what is up with that? what kind of cans do u think they are?
----------

In no civilised country are manufacturers allowed to use lead cans, you are quite safe.

However, once the can is opened the air can react with the metal so if you have big cans of juice that you will be keeping open for some time it is much better to decant it into a glass or porcelain jug  (+ info)

Can you die from lead poisoning?

My sister's ex says that he has two months to live bacause of lead poisoning. He apparently got the lead poisoning from a bullet like 1 or 2 years ago. Is it even possible to die of lead poisoning from that? Don't they have treatments?

He's still up and working and looking very much healthy. He's not even in the hospital.

So do you think he's lying becasue he tends to lie a lot.
----------

It is highly unlikely that he is dying from lead poisoning, if he attended hospital they would have removed it and treated him.
If the bullet was copper jacket the amount of lead would be negligible.
I think he is pulling a fast one.  (+ info)
