Will eating too much canned food lead to lead poisoning ?

I've heard it somewhere that if you eat too much canned foods you are likely to have too much lead in your blood. Is this true? If not, why is lead poisoning related to canned foods?
----------

Lead tins are not use these days to can foods. Usually it is not because it is canned food that make it poisonous, but because of proper handling and storing the food before and after canning procedure and after opening it especially with the left overs. Left overs should not be stored in the tin cans (to avoid botulism), they should be transfered to food containers and store in acceptable temperature.  (+ info)

Can lead solder wire cause lead poisoning?

I have some 50% tin 50% lead wire solder that I was going to use on a piece of jewelry for my boyfriend. However, could wearing something with 50% lead give him lead poisoning?
----------

It's not your boyfriend that you have to worry about. Lead cannot harm grown adults, especially men, the way it can harm babies. Sucking on jewelry with lead is one of the major causes of lead poisoning in young children. Babies like to put things in their mouths, and lead has a sweet taste, which encourages them to suck on it. You have to think of what will happen to this jewelry if it ever leaves your boyfriend's possession.

There are other ways to solder jewelry. The best way is to solder silver jewelery with silver solder [1].

Or, cheaper, lead free solder is also available that is very similar to the kind you are familiar with. I would recommend that instead. Here is one option: http://www.grouptarget.com/Viewer.jsp?qid=2009229 .

Wikipedia does explain the differences between the various kinds of solder.

Also, if you ever plan on having children, you should be careful about your own exposure to lead as well. Work in a well ventilated area. Wash your hands. Don't let the fumes get on your dishes, etc. (The fumes are mostly rosin, not lead, but I would imagine that whenever you heat lead, a small amount of it gets into the air.)  (+ info)

If there's lead paint in your house, that could be part of the issue. Though there was lead paint in my house growing up and I never had any issues.  (+ info)

The effect of lead poisoning on the mental ability of children?

What would be a hypothesis for the relationship between the lead concentration in the blood, the IQ, and the age of the children. As the blood-lead concentration increases, how would you expect the person’s IQ to change? How do you think this relationship would change as the children grow older?

Thanks!
----------

Heavy metals block the production of key neuro-chemicals. And they severely damage neurons by choking off needed oxygen and other nutrients. So thus, prolonged exposure could cause IQ to drop, until you move away and get medical treatment.

How severe is lead poisoning in New Orleans?

Especially in the inner cities, where people are the most vulnerable. They're just building on it, hoping kids won't get in the dirt overturned that exposes centuries of toxic lead paint.
----------

It's not a general problem, and the overall environment is NOT contaminated with lead like another answer suggests.

Lead, asbestos, and other toxins became an issue recently because activists wanted to prevent the demolition of public housing developments built during the 1930s to 1950s. The activists wanted to keep poor Black people trapped in the developments and >> voting like they were told << in spite of the fact the developments were contaminated with all sorts of problems like lead paint + asbestos insulation.

Fortunately, reason prevailed and the developments are either gone or awaiting demolition. They will be replaced with better housing.  (+ info)
