cranial nerve damage with face lacerations?

if a person had deep face lacerations what cranial nerves would be damaged?
----------

depends on where the laceration is. but CN VII (facial nerve) is more than likely. CN VII gives sensation to the scalp all the way down to the neck, along with face muscles giving expressions. this nerve tracks out from the parotid gland (just in front of your ears) out the middle of it and branches five ways thru out the face.

if the laceration is really deep and broke bones, say a jaw fracture, you could damage CN V (third branch), which gives sensation to your lower teeth. CN V (second branch) innervates the upper teeth, this would slice, if you broke your upper face.

hope it didn't happen to you.  (+ info)

my wife had deep facial lacerations from an auto accident.?

2 weeks ago she had the black exterior sutures removed. now there are a few short white thread like things poking out. are these sutures also?
----------

If she had deep facial lacerations chances are they sewed the muscular layer and then sewed the epidermal layer chances are what you are seeing are dissolvable sutures from the muscular layer. Give them time to break down. However, if you are concerned always check with your doctor.  (+ info)

Why do cuts/lacerations/stabs/etc. hurt?

You could say that if somebody hits you, it hurts because of the impact. But if you get cut, why does it send pain signals to your brain?
----------

anything you feel nice or painful is all caused because of nerve endings close to the surface and they in turn send the signals to the brain  (+ info)

I have these lacerations (it appears) on by back, wtf?

They're red concave lines across the middle of my back. What are they?
I've had them for about a year.
Also f.y.i: I am 6 foot 3 and have a long back. Are they stretch marks?
And also about 8 months ago I put my head between my legs for a stretch, are they just stretch marks? Thanks. jack.
----------

I have similar marks by the sound of it, but i think mines due to a bad matres (however u spell it) on my bed...from the springs...my dad has very similar marks and he believes he got his from the same thing...  (+ info)

Kidney lacerations - kidney torn in two after motorbike accident. Advice please!?

Hi. My brother had a horrible motorbike accident today, he's broken a number of ribs and also torn his kidney completely into two pieces. I have googled kidney lacerations, but I can't find anything about the kidney being torn in two. Has anyone ever heard of this or known someone who has had this kind of injury? What is recovery time and will my brother be okay in the long term? Thanks for any advice. :)
He is intensive care.
----------

If he's not in intensive care, he should be fine.

A person can live with one kidney, and I'm pretty sure doctors can make half a kidney functional.  (+ info)

How long until I should remove skin glue from a laceration?

I've had some skin glue on a laceration for about a week. When should I remove it or allow it to get wet?
----------

I'm assuming you're talking about "Dermabond". As a surgical nurse, I've been told by my surgeons that this type of glue should be left on the skin as it will eventually wear away from showering. With that said, just shower as usual and it will eventually come off on its own.  (+ info)

How strong are the stitches for the laceration wounds?

I got about 8-10 stitches for a 6 cm laceration would on my upper right arm. Its been a day and I was wondering can I work out? Can I even do simple exercises like push ups, pull ups and stuff like that?
----------

stitches are not that strong. i would not work out for at least a weeks so the cut can heal  (+ info)

What does it mean when there is white skin after getting sutures to a moderately deep laceration?

I was given a prescription for antibiotics for the laceration. Also, when can I get my stitches removed? The laceration occurred on my right toe.
----------

white skin is macerated meaning to moist generally sutures stay in 7 to 10 days or more depending on where they are how bad the area was and how much stress put on the sutures - movement etc they should have told you when they put the sutures in when you will get removed  (+ info)

I think my tampon caused a laceration on the inside wall of my vagina?

I dunno. I had a mini tampon in for around 2 hours and i just took it out. It hurt no more than usual taking it out but now the inside wall of my vagina kinda 'burns' Did my tampon cause a laceration. I put a pad in, but will i still get TSS, and when will the laceration heal?
----------

perhaps you didn't leave the tampon in for long enough this can cause the burning sensation as hadn't absorbed enough leaving parts of the tampon "dry" hope this help

oh and i don't believe you have TSS, as that is very rare  (+ info)

How do you treat a laceration?

My friend got into an altercation and he has a laceration on his face. What are some effective ways to treat a laceration? Note: it's a deep laceration. Thanks
This did happen within a duration of 24 hrs.
----------

Deep lacerations usually need to be stitched.

Did it happen within the last 24 hours?
Is there swelling?
If you answered yes to both, he should go to a minor emergency clinic (see 'clinic' in your yellow pages) for stitches.

If he doesn't get stitches, and it is swelling, he could have a very ugly scar.

Otherwise, clean it with mild soap and water (don't use hydrogen peroxide!), antibiotic ointment, and a butterfly bandage to hold it shut.

Good luck!  (+ info)
