How long does it take for knee injuries to heal?

I hurt my knee and have been resting it for a week. I'm going mad sitting around all day but my knee is still sore. Does anyone know how long I should wait before going back to using it as normal?
----------

Hi, Poor you I know just how you feel, it really depends on what you have done. I thought I had just twisted my knee, but it just did'nt stop hurting. A few weeks later I went to my doc who sent me for an xray. turned out i'd torn the cartilage and I had to have an op. I WAS STUNNED. any way get yourself to xray and let them look inside its the only way.

Why are workers comp. knee replacements routinely denied when due to cumulative injuries?

They blame it on Osteoarthritis even thought the Osteoarthritis was caused by numerous injuries not all of which can be documented over a long period of time- who reports every little tweek when lifting heavy items for many years? My claim is being denied when it is all but obvious that my knee replacement surgery became necessary after working 25 years in construction.
----------

probably because there is no way to tell if you would have needed the replacement anyway  (+ info)

How do you prevent knee injuries?

I take ballet. I've only been taking for a year or so, though, and I love it; lately, though, as of yesterday, I've been having occasional twinges of pain in my knee joints. I'm worried, as I have heard that knee injuries are common for dancers.

What are some specific things that I can do to prevent this? i.e. stretches, exercises, etc...

Thanks! :D
----------

dont do anything stupid like doing something too advaced. when my ballet teacher was really little she did a pirroutte and broke her leg. she probally didnt have the right posture/placement which threw her off balance.

drink alot of water.

DONT GO ON POINTE TOO SOON (my biggest ballet pet peeve)

ill show u bunch of stretches and exersises later. i rly dont see knee injuries in young dancers. the most common way to get hurt is by not stretching enough and u rip a muscle. the only knee problem that happened to a student at my studio was not because of dancing it was basketball. she landed really funky when she threw the ball. i guess that could happen ballet-wise.to prevent this u have to plie everytime when u land any jump. the higher the jump, the deeper the bend of ur knees should be.  (+ info)

What are some knee injuries that won't show up in a MRI or a X ray?

This summer I was jumping on a trampoline and my knee popped then I couldnt straighten it out all the way. I waited several weeks and still couldnt so I went to the doctor and they performed an MRI thinking it was a torn ACL which it wasnt and they did X-Rays and said my knee looked normal. Since then I have still been having constant pain and my knee will feel like it hyper extends or collapses. Is there any knee injury that wouldnt show up on a MRI or X-Ray?
----------

VERY minor cartilage tears, or even a LIGHT tear of a ligament (IE only like 2 fibers torn). but I would go for a second opinion and get another MRI done. and Xrays only show bone related injuries.  (+ info)

What workout routines would you suggest for someone with severe knee injuries?

I have some damage to my ACL that required surgery, and while I used to be an active runner, I find myself unable to do so anymore. I've started to get rather fat due to my lack of cardiovascular activity. I need to find cardio that I can do that doesn't involve swimming, as a pool is not easily available to me. Thanks in advance.
----------

biking or cycling has very little impact on the knee and is very effective to maintaining your fitness level. Try taking a spin class...

after i had surgery about a year ago, i found that this was very low impact and also improved my range of motion.

good luck.  (+ info)

What are the different knee injuries one can get?

And for each injury what is the best way to treat it?
----------

There are a plethora of ways one can injury their knees. Sometime can simply be treated with ice and some rubbing medicine, while others may need surgery. I think you will most commonly needed surgery when you severely damage your ACL - a special ligament in your knee.  (+ info)

What types of knee injuries/surguries would require you to walk with a cane?

Ok. This is for health class. For some reason the coach has it in his head that I've hurt my knee before and that I know this. lol. I've tried looking in various places on the internet. Can't find it :/ Help please? *oh and what caused, or what did you do to get the injury K thanks.

NO I'm not trying to get out of this assignment.. I just need some help.
----------

One of the most common reasons people are on a straight cane is due to arthritis which is wear and tear of a joint. A cane helps take pressure off the affected joint. Poor balance or weakness is another reason why people may use a cane. As far as surgeries go: total knee or hip replacement are the more common surgeries that result in people using a cane for a short while. Many times after surgery people with use a crutch rather than a cane.

Hope that helps.  (+ info)

What are some knee injuries caused by sports?

Please be specific to ligaments, muscles and tendons as well as type of sport.
----------

Soccer - grade 2 strain ( or tear ) on either a ligament ot tendon... couldnt have been bothered getting the expensive MRI to work out which one.  (+ info)

What common knee injuries can result from doing squats or leg presses with too heavy of a weight?

I mean like sudden sprain or tear type of injury, not a long term gradual overuse injury.
----------

38%, you can develop tendinitis, sprains of the ligaments, strains of the tendons and muscles, and there is also the possibility of tearing your meniscus.  (+ info)
