How can I relieve the itching caused by intestinal worms untill I can get to the doctor?

My daughter found a small white worm in her butt and she says her butt is very itchy. I will take her to the doctor on Monday, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to relieve the itching in the meantime?
----------

You can buy worm treatments from the chemist. Speak to the pharmacist about it.

Can you get intestinal worms from regular grocery store food?

I am asking in this section because you guys seem to know a whole lot more about food and where it comes from than other people.
And can you provide some examples of things that might be affected if you can? Like - is it only in meats or in produce or whatever?
----------

Yes, you can. Parasites are common on most foods, including fresh fruits and veggies. All meat and fish contain parasites, which is why they need cooking at certain temperatures to kill the parasites. Fruits and veggies should be washed very thouroughly before eating. If you mean processed, packaged food, its anyones guess what ends up in it, when so many people are involved in the production of it. You are subject to the sanitation habits of anyone who handled the food. If a worker wipes their nose, or scratches their tail, then handles the food, who knows? Yet another reason I prepare everything from scratch.  (+ info)

What medicine I need to take to kill intestinal parasites?

Can I buy them at Safeway, Priceline or sort of stores that I don't need to ask to buy those medicines. (I'm really shy when talking about this kind of thing).

Don't forget to tell me names of medicines.
----------

Honest to Pete. I can't imagine just trying some over the counter medication to kill intestinal parasites unless you know exactly what parasite you have. You should go to the doctor and get a diagnosis. Your symptoms may be caused by food allergies or something else quite different and you can make yourself sick. These medications are poisons which kill a specific thing.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20040301/1161.html describes many different types of parasites. You need to know what you have and they talk about fecal studies, counting ova (eggs), and the cellophane test (capturing something or other so it can be identified).

You may be shy, but doctors certainly have seen worse that your poop or pee.   (+ info)

What's the fastest way to reduce intestinal inflammation caused by Celiac disease?

In case of a one-time accidental exposure or contamination from an unknown source, how do you fix this? I am already on a gluten-free, casein-free, sugar-free diet.

I'd like to hear from anyone that has actually tried something for this and had good results.
Thanks, yes I also do peppermint tea and acidophilus to keep canciciasis at bay.

I rarely have an accident like yesterday, but it takes so long for the inflammation to go away. I took some magnesium citrate, that helpe.

I'm hoping to find something rapid in case this happens again. I might consider trying prednisone or something similar, just one or two doses.
----------

Honestly there is really no way to "heal" the body after an accidentaly gluten eating bc it just has to pass the system.
However, there are things I do to ease the pain afterwards.
I take aloe vera juice to get things "flowing" (I have constipation with eating gluten, not all do.)
Taking a walk if u can bear it will help the bloat and pain (for me)
Wheni ts REALLY bad all I can do is lay on myb elly an djust pray for it to be over!!!

FYI: Many sugar free foods contain gluten, and some artificial sweetners hurt the belly as they are chemically modified and not natural. If u are trying to avoid sugar, you might want ot try stevia, blue agave nectar or honey.

Best of luck and I hope u feel better!!  (+ info)

Can metabolism be linked to intestinal transit time?

If someone has a fast metabolism can that mean their body is absorbing almost all of the nutrients in food, leaving little waste and causing a long intestinal transit time?
----------

I believe that digestive rate is somewhat independent of metabolism, but is definitely influenced by metabolism. The more food you eat, the more food you need to processes, so it may seem as though digestion is 'faster' if you eat more, but the truth is, you just have more food going in and pushing older food through the intestinal tract. And it also depends on what you eat:

Solid versus liquid - liquids are emptied from the stomach more quickly than solids.

Fat content of the food - fat slows the digestive process and delays the availability of any Calories to the muscles.

Sugar concentration - especially in liquids, a sugar content of more than 10% will slow stomach emptying. (The use of complex carbohydrates, will offset this to some degree and offers an alternative strategy to maximize Caloric intake.)

and what you do:

Physical activity - the mechanical activity of digestion is slowed by any vigorous activity. In running the mechanical stimulation of abdominal contents from the sport itself slows digestive tract functioning.

And it can also be influenced by the type and amount of probiotics in the intestines because some species are better energy extractors. This means that two people eating the same diet can be different weights. One could be skinny, and the other could be obese.  (+ info)

What food should you eat if you have an intestinal infection?

Other than your prescribed meds that is. Fried foods are a no-no, but could I get some more specific examples?
----------

spicy and oily food is a strict no-no.....u can hav yogurt(not thick....add water and blend it to make it like a milkshake).....avoid bread and bakery items....eat anthing which is veg(digestable) and avoid red meat........  (+ info)

What is a good intestinal system cleaner?

I need to clean out my system, but I do not want to be having to take a dump all of a sudden every 5 minutes. What a good solution to this? What else is good to detox your body from all the bad toxins and stuff like that?
----------

there are various herbal supplements - one can take them in a propriety blend designed as kit or take a single herb for cleansing.

one can go on a fruit and fruit juice diet.

one can take some benonite clay singlely or augmented with the herbal supplements.  (+ info)

Can humans have an intestinal disease that produces a smell similar to that of a dog with parvo?

Kind of a icky question...I know but I am worried because a friend of mine gives off a smell (especially when using the bathroom) that is very similar to the smell of a dog with parvo. It is a rotting smell...not joking. I have smelled a dog with parvo and it is something you dont forget. Can humans get something similar...or at least something that makes you smell like you are rotting from the inside out? Sorry this is so gross but it is serious.
----------

Well, I am no doctor but if I have learned anything from Dr. Oz its that your BM tells alot about your health. It should never have a strong odor and should be brown to dark brown...never black,maroon,green...anything like that. It should be mentioned to a doctor. It could just be that he or she is getting to much protien in their diet or they are getting too much or not enough of some other food or drink...but bring it up to the doc and see what he says. Better safe than sorry.  (+ info)

What do you do for intestinal flu to feel better?

I've taken phenergan and immodium and I feel like death. Totally watery stools; no food for 26 hours.
----------

What you need to drink before you dehydrate and pass out is PEDIALYTE. You need to replace the electrolytes in your body. That is what they give you by IV in hospital. You can get it at the pharmacy.

Pedialyte was made specifically for children since they dehydrate the quickest, but you should drink it as you sound like you are dehydrated. You will feel better after taking and replacing your electrolytes, but stay away from food and just eat crackers, white rice, in small doses. Don't drink anything acidy, just water, pedialyte, flat gingerale if you can take it, maybe apple juice watered down. Sugar is not good though for diarrhea, makes it worse.

You shouldn't take immodium with the flu...maybe after a few days but not right away. You need to get all that junk out of you before your body can heal. Just take little sips every 10 minutes or so.  (+ info)

How can you tell if you have a worm in you intestinal tract?

You know how some people get like worms in their stomach or their intestines? Well how can you tell if you have one or not? How do you get them anyways?
----------

If you have been around others with worms, and you share a place with poor hygiene, you can get worms from them. The worms make their homes mainly in your intestinal tract and the way you can tell if you have a worm/s is that you likely will see little white segments in your stool. You may also have a bloated stomach, have mucus and blood in your stool, and experience weight loss as the worms eat your food.
You doc will need a stool sample for a parasitology study-to see if you have a worm and what kind it is.  (+ info)
