Would it ever have to be necessary to use surgery to treat impetigo?

I just don't see why they would have to resort to surgery.
My brother has this and was just diagnosed.

But then again, I'm not a doctor, so please let me know what you all think.
----------

Umm, thats strange. I never, ever hear of that before. impetigo is a staff infection, so.....what is surgery for?you cannot have any surgery untill the staff is in remission. thats what i have, and if i were him, i would totaly get a second oppinion, and do not go thru with the surgery!  (+ info)

What is the best way to cure impetigo?

I wrestle and I just got this disease like around four days ago. It itches really a lot but it doesn't look too bad. It looks like a very bad mosquito bite. I need help on how to cure it without going to the doctor.
----------

Impetigo needs prescription cream/ointment to clear this up. It will not go away on it's own. Applying hydrocortisone cream in the meantime will dry the surface a little bit.  (+ info)

How long after someone is exposed to impetigo do the symptoms show up?

My son came home with it . From his Bio father after a week.
----------

Impetigo is an erruption normally caused by Staphylococcus aureus (staph), or Streptococcus pyogenes (strep).

Exposure by no means indicates full scale infection (impetigo, boils, flesh eating disease...). The fact is taht we are constantly exponsed to these bacteria. The problem only arises when they get into broken skin or infect hair follicles or sebaceous glands.

Assuming that there is no outbreak, your son should be cleaned from head to two with soap and water and should also shampoo.
Although it is probably not necessary, dial makes an anti-bacterial soap and lquid soap. I generally don't like these because they kill off good bacteria too. Still, dpending on his age, such an infection could be dangerous. use Dial or another anti-bacterial soap. Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) would also work, but not too many people have it lying around.
Wash off the antibacterial thoroughly and follow with a moisturizer.  (+ info)

Is it ok to put makeup over an impetigo lesion?

I somehow picked this up on Sunday-ish. Anyways, by Wednesday it had grown bigger. I got spooked and went to the Doctors. I've been on treatment for three days now and the scabs are no longer forming. Would it be ok to put foundation over top? I want to go out tonight and not look like a monster.
----------

I would say so, yes.  (+ info)

Should I cover my impetigo on my forehead when I am going to sleep?

Should i cover it or let it air out?
I sleep on my belly so I wouldn't want it to spread.
I haven't got the chance to get that bactroban stuff yet.
----------

No need to cover as it might cause maceration. What you need is antibiotic coverage like Cloxacillin but you need a doctors prescription.  (+ info)

Is Impetigo a common thing in babies?

I mean, I take care of my baby and I feel ashamed b/c he has a few sores in the diaper region that resembles Impetigo. Other than the ER, there is no doctor I can take him to today. His pediatrician wont be there until Monday.
----------

type impetigo into your web browser and you'll find that it is almost always in infants/children and almost always do to poor hygiene

try washing his diaper region with basis soap, it's made by johnson and johnson get the fragrance free if you can but any is fine as it's all for highly sensitive skin blot him dry gently and apply desenex baby ointment very thin using just a bit or any other high quality diaper rash cream

if it is impetigo it needs clean skin and at first some skin supportive good diaper cream and will resolve itself in a few days if it isn't getting any better or getting worse in the next few days it's pediatrician

just make sure you are washing him very, very well after he poops and bathe him daily it's also an honest skin issue in that sometimes mom is busy and does a quick clean  (+ info)

Is it normal for impetigo to come back three times?

This is the third time ive had it in the space of two months, i completed a seven day course of antibiotics, it cleared up fully, and no one caught it. What can this mean?
----------

It can do yes. You need to see your GP again. You should really have been taking both oral and topical antibiotics if it's quite severe. Make sure you wash bd with an anti bacterial soap and stick to the same face cloth and towel (also wash them frequently on a hot wash).

Also, the bacteria sometimes lives in the nose and causes no problems until it breaks out again as a skin infection. If you have recurrent impetigo, you should have a nasal swab taken to see if you are carrying the staph bacteria inside your nose. If you are, there are nasal antiseptic cream that can be used to eradicate it and this should sort the problem out.

The bacterial skin infection is caused by staphylococcus and it is spread by contact- from person to person and can spread from one body part to another so you must keep washing your hands. It can also survive and can be spread from fomites (inanimate objects like towels etc). The first line oral antibiotic in this instance is flucloxacillin or erythromycin if allergic. Perhaps you needed a longer course.  (+ info)

How contagious is impetigo?

I was planning to go to my friend's house this evening. She developed impetigo about a week ago. This is her third day on antibiotics. She tells me it isn't contagious un less I touch the infected area(which I do not plan to) and that it is starting to look better. As long as I don't touch her, should I be alright?
also, I just came off Antibiotics for Strep Throat a few days ago, So would the my antibiotics somehow block it out?
----------

It's pretty infectious and I would be better safe than sorry. See her elsewhere. Anywhere she might have touched in her house is still there. I think that she needs to give her house a good cleaning.
