Can I use Fougera triamcinolone acetonide cream for Impetigo?

It's my brothers he used for poison ivy, I was wondering if it would help my Impetigo?
Or rubbing alcohol?
----------

Actually, it would probably make the impetigo worse, as the cortisone in the product would "disable" your white blood cells from fighting the impetigo infection.  (+ info)

After I had IMPETIGO,red marks formed where the Impetigo was.How long do the red scar/rashes take to go away?

I had a bad case of impetigo and now that it has cleared up, my skin pigment (color) has changed to a bright red pigment (color) where i had the impetigo infection. I want to know if this pigment change will go back to its original color and how long it will take to have the skin go back to its original color? Is their any vitamins or creams I should use to help in the skins healing process ?
----------

I had Imetigo as a child and can remember the healing taking awhile - Use pure vitamin e break open the gel capsules or you can buy pure e if you search -
Cocoa butter and in the shower you can try gently exfoliating it and using cocoa gel - (vaseline the brand makes a great hydrating gel/oil that helps a lot)

Don't be surprised if it's not 100% for 6 months.  (+ info)

How long can impetigo live and be infectious outside of a human host?

I'm not using the same towels and I am disinfecting everything regularly. Still curious... For example, if I use a towel to dry off after showering how long can the towel cause infection? Or if I itch then get it on my hand then touch a doorknob can it live on the doorknob for a while and still be infectious?
----------

Yes, it will infect others if they touch the doorknob. Impetigo remains contagious until the area is disinfected and until your rash has disappeared.

How can I stop Impetigo from spreading?

My 4 month old daughter has Impetigo. She only has a little bit on her face and a little bit on her leg, have anyone else's children had this and how did you stop it spreading. Have gotten antibiotics and ointment from the doc, but would like to know if there is anything additional I should be doing?
Michael H - The doc said the it is a form of staph and that kids have it on their skin normally. And while some kids react to it and get sores, some kids don't. He didn't indicate where it came from though.
----------

You should be on the right path of treatment. Keep using the meds and watch closely for other infected areas.
Keep the area as clean and dry as possible. Sweating and moisture will help it to grow.
Remedies like calimine or oats should not be used. These will not irradicate the bacteria. It is a type of staph.

Be sure your daughter does not develop other forms of this like oral thrush or yeast even cradle cap and such are all associated with the same class of bacteria.
Hope your baby gets better soon!  (+ info)

Ive had a cold sore infect with impetigo. How long before the swelling and meds begin working?

I have severe facial swelling, painful blisters, difficulty sleeping and eating and headaches. I've been on antibiotics for both conditions for 2 days now and no relief
----------

My son had impetigo from a scratch on his face. I put perscription meds on it and it looked much better by the next morning. However, it took almost a week to heal completely.  (+ info)

What is the incubation period for impetigo?

My mum had it last week & I used her facecloth, before we knew what it was she had. When can I stop worrying, also is there anything I can do to stop myself getting it?
----------

The incubation period will vary depending on the particular bacteria.

It is usually 1–3 days for streptococcal and 4–10 days for staphylococcal infections.

How long will it take for my impetigo to heal/look better?

I just went to the doctors today and he put me on anti-biotics for 10 days. It isn't that severe but it is around my mouth and my chin..I am an 18 year old girl attending high school and i have a job so obviously I don't want to go out into public with these sores on my face. How long will it take before they will start to fade or look noticeably better?

I really cant miss anymore school or work!
----------

I had this on my face too, you poor thing! I feel for you. I couldn't even open my mouth to eat. It got both sides of the corners of my lips from working on a dirty construction site.

Use lots of hand sanitizer and keep every part of your house clean, esp the bathroom!
Throw away any makeup you've used. LIP GLOSS AND LIP CHAP> GARBAGE!

After the medication it went away in 3 or 4 days. Hallelujah!!

Good luck, keep clean!  (+ info)

What cream could I use to prevent Impetigo?

I want some kind of cream I could use to prevent it, I get it every few months in my left nostril the same exact spot. I am clean and think it might be my sensitive skin, but I don't know exactly why I keep getting it.
If I have an "outbreak" I use bactroban. I am talking about a cream to incorporate into my daily skincare routine for prevention.
----------

Are you picking (too excessively?)

If you notice any "cut" from that, a bit of over-the-counter antibiotic will do, but if it gets out of control, you'll need a prescription for stronger medication--Bactroban (mupirocin)--or put on an oral antibiotic, by your doctor.

--------------

You should not use antibiotic cream / ointment routinely on your skin. In case of impetigo, there is a cut in the skin and germs get in--and it gets infected. So you need to be careful about that particular spot (if you pick on it, stop now). If you note a cut, which is basically an entry for germs, into the skin, a little dab of over-the-counter ointment should work. If you see it spread, then bactroban. However if you have MRSA, then you have to be put on something else.

I have seen hibiclens (skin wash) used for it. But it's not recommended for routine use. There are supposed to be normal germs on the skin for a reason.  (+ info)

What are the chances that im gonna get impetigo from my sister?

----------

if a part of your body directly touched the infected area your most likely going to get it and it is possible for you to get it after laying on the same bed as she   (+ info)
