Have you been checked for adhesions? How about kidney stones or bladder infections? Are you active? Could you have pulled something? Have you done anything to regain your stomach muscles and overall flexibilty? When you say total hys- did they truly take out everything or did they leave an ovary to help with hormonal flow and menopause? Any other symptons like fever, tenderness? Is the pain sharp or dull? Does anything relieve it?

Ok can I get a good answer please?

Alright I've asked this question many times and got nothing. I need an answer from an educated person or someone who has went through this. Here it goes bit by bit. Sunday March 21 my daughter was sick. She puked all over me while I was holding her. She's 2. We took her to the doctor and they said a bad stomach bug was going around. Ok Tuesday March 23 I started getting sick. I had burps that were so nasty and foul smelling. I then started getting diarrhea followed by one bout of nausea. I slept through the night and felt better the next day. Wednesday and Thursday no problems at all. Friday March 26 I went to dinner with my mother. We had Mexican. That evening the nasty burps returned followed by the diarrhea and the vomiting til 3 in the morning. I slept on it again and on Saturday I felt better just weak and tired. That night I had some fresh squeezed lemonade. It was acidy let me tell ya. Sunday March 28 sick again with diarrhea mainly. That night pain in my stomach followed by vomiting. Went to the ER. Tests taken were blood sample, urine sample, stool sample, belly X-Rays. Doctor said it appeared I had an ileus (bowel obstruction) and they admitted me to the hospital for IV fluids. Stayed overnight. Next day on liquid diet. At red jello had bowel movement that was orange worried me showed to nurse nothing said. Doctor came in and discharged me. Said I had gastroenteritis. He said he looked at the X-Ray couldn't see where they had seen an ileus. Said nothing about my stool sample said my blood work showed my white count was up a little bit. Told me to take it easy and stay on liquids for a few days. Left hospital. Since then only diarrhea in the morning normal in color rest of the day small narrow stools normal in color. Feeling of bloating in stomach. I'm worried they missed something like colon cancer. Not sure if the X-Rays or the blood work or the stool sample would've showed something. Don't think they would've sent me home with something majorly wrong. No discomfort. I'm 27 years old. I do not have a history of colon cancer in my family. I do not smoke or drink or take any medications. I am not on antibiotics. I had no fever at all. I've changed my diet no sodas no acidy foods little greasy foods. No leafy stuff except for spinach (I'm stupid) once. Doesn't hurt to go and no sign of blood either. Only symptoms are narrow stools, loose stools, bloating feeling. No gas no foul smelling burps anymore. Could I just have a long lasting gastroenteritis or should I be worried. No insurance spent a fortune to stay overnight at hospital so going to a doc is almost out of the question. I just want to see if anybody else has these digestive problems. I'm really worried the most about the narrow stools but that could just be from the swelling of the intestines from the gastroenteritis.
----------

My whole family just went through it, and I'm still currently going through it too. I've had diarrhea, a lot of bloating, some burping, lots of nausea but no vomiting. When I lay down it feels better, when I stand up and walk around I feel much worse. My doc said gastroenteritis as well. There is something going around in our neck of the woods because another classmate got sick with this as well. I would say keep on a very bland diet (as they told me)...don't get too risky with the foods just yet, even when you think you're feeling better. I made that mistake yesterday...had spaghetti. Won't be doing that again any time soon. Definitely keep yourself hydrated...and since you are still vomiting and having diarrhea, you need to drink something to replenish your lost electrolytes such as Gatorade.  (+ info)

What could this pain in my side be?

Tuesday evening I was sick with a stomach virus. I was vomiting and had diarrhea. I slept through the night and felt better the next morning although I still had diarrhea. Over that Wednesday and Thursday I felt better but Friday the vomiting and diarrhea came back full force. I again handled it and come Saturday felt better. Sunday though it all came back and I decided to go to the ER. They drew blood and took X-Rays. They admitted me with an ileus (a type of bowel obstruction caused by dehydration). I spent the night at the hospital with constant fluids being given to me through an IV. The next morning the diarrhea started to dissipate and the vomiting was gone. I was discharged and told to rest and take it easy for a few days. Now today I feel better. The diarrhea is gone but I'm a bit constipated. No vomiting. I have a sharp pain in my right side at the ascending colon that comes and goes. It seems to feel better if I change positions. I'm guessing it's due to my week filled with abdominal stress but I'm also worried about the possibility of colon cancer or something. Woudn't they have been able to see a tumor or blockage with the X-Ray. I have no blood either in my stool. In the hospital I was given red jello which a few hours later my stool was orange looking. The doctor didn't think it was anything to worry about and all my stools since then have been normal in color. Wow personal. Anyways since leaving the hospital I've been staying hydrated and I'm wondering if maybe I'm upsetting my colon by not eating enough. In the past day I've had a few crackers and a very small meal. I've drank 2 sprites, an apple juice, 3 powerades, and some tea as well as three bags of the IV fluid pumped into me. My only symptom is the slight pain in my side so I'm not thinking colon cancer. Could I just be depriving myself of the foods I need. Any advice would be nice. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if anybody knows if a tumor would've been noticeable on an X-Ray in the colon.

Had the same stomach virus that you had too - and it came back also - what ever is going around is hard to get rid of

They should have been able to visualized a tumor on an xray but if you are worried about colon cancer then I suggest that you get a colonoscopy - this is the only way to tell for sure if you have it - if they see any abnormalities during the colonoscopy they will take a biopsy and have it analyzed

Hope you fell better soon - just been there and done that - not pleasant  (+ info)

Best facility to treat acute graft verses host disease- asking again?

Asking this question again, my husband passed away from acute graft verses host disease from a university medical school in the midwest, he was in the hospital and acquired GVHD on about day 17 after bone marrow transplant which lasted about a month, this was horrific and I'm a nurse, he had C- diff from day after transplant to CMV, BK virus, graft verses host of gut, skin and liver with an ileus, GI bleeding from rectum, large raw sores to bottom, thighs and back and gallbladder attack, I 'm wondering if he had been transferred to a different facility when acute graft verses host began a month prior could have possibly helped, if there is a facility that is good at treating this terrible disease??

Do I have a case against my dr?

I went in for a routine laproscopic for endometriosis..a same day proceedure. I still had not urninated when discharged later that day, ended up having to go to the ER that evening to have a catheter put in and then back to the drs. office to have it removed 3 days later. All week I did not feel good, I called my dr and he told me to do this or that, I did and to no avail nothing was better, I was in pain. His answer to me was to go to the ER once again 4 days later. I went to the ER.... the dr on call did a cat scan and said that I had fluid in my pelvis which was proved to be blood, and had a large hemotoma behind the incision mid tummy. He told me that the blood would have to be removed ..... they admitted me that day. Once to my room I became more in pain and waited for my dr to come see me. It wasn't til the next day when he come in and he said that I had a Ileus of the bowel. The only way to treat it was nothing by mouth. Days went by and nothing improved.. he finally told me that he could put a NG tube thru my nose to the belly.. at first I was skeptical... he later come in and informed me that he was going to be in the hospital another 10 min if I wanted him to put one in....so I did. They pumped almost 2 liters of green out of my stomach and for days it drained. After being in for 7 days they removed the tube, the pressure felt gone so they sent me home. The next morning I was feeling alot of pressure and in pain I once again called my dr... he said well if you go to the ER all they are going to do is put a NG tube back in ya... by that evening I could not take it no more so went to the ER.....asked for a 2nd opinion. The called a surgeon down that was on call, he did a cat scan...and right away he said the upper part of the bowel was the size of a football and the lower deflated like. He said that I had a definate problem.. once again the NG tube was put in and they pumped and pumped out of my stomach the green. They rounded up a surgical team and that night I was in surgery two hours to undo a twisted bowel. My concern is... if the first dr did 3 cat scans and said there was no change, how can another opinion dr find it right away and rushed me into surgery. I feel the first dr misdiagnosed what was going on inside me and it could have led to more problems than I had. Out of this I was cut from top to bottom on my stomach and the pain and recovery were excruciating.. I am wondering if I would have a case against my first dr for not noticing what was going on.

Sorry about your terrible situation. However, you don't have a case against the first dr. In the end, all turned out okay. No harm no foul, even though it doesn't seem that way right now.  (+ info)

Can my father sue his surgeon for not doing the procedure discussed?

Today my Dad was discussing the possibility of suing his surgeon after a surgery done in September of this year (2009). He'd been dealing with horrible chronic pain in his right side (in addition to a broken back which left him disabled) which was discovered to be fractured 10th and 11th ribs which never healed. After research, his primary doctor referred him to a cardiac surgeon who could complete a relatively simple procedure that used a device called RibLoc to union the ribs. I went with him to the surgeon's orientation where he examined my Dad, and discussed the procedure in further detail. We were told only a small incision was needed, and unless my Dad went into respiratory failure or something of that nature during the surgery, it would be an outpatient procedure or at the latest, he'd be out the next morning, with the whole procedure taking roughly 3 hours.
On the day of the surgery, I went with my Mom to take him there and stay with her in the waiting room in case something went awry. After over 5 hours, we were growing anxious. I'm not sure how long after 5 hours it was, but finally the surgeon came in and explained to my Mom and I that they did not use RibLoc. Instead, he cut out ribs 10, 11, and 12 and "snipped the nerves" associated with those ribs to permanently numb the area. I was in shock; what was suppose to be a "simple outpatient procedure" turned into removing three ribs, cutting nerve endings, removing a small cyst from the area, and leaving a 6 inch surgical wound on his right side. Instead of leaving the next morning, he was hospitalized for 8 days, where he got a staph infection, a horrible Ileus which caused my mother and I to have to hold buckets to catch liters of blood-colored fluid as he continually threw it up, and wasn't given the pain medicine he'd been prescribed and taken for the last 8 years for his back. Ever since, he's been in pain and he says the "snipped nerves" are not numb from pain, but more like the stabbing numbness of asleep feet. I understand that the aforementioned are subsequent issues resulting from surgery and are not necessarily all surgeon's fault.
But after everything he's gone through and the increasing pain he continues to have, we just wonder, where is the line when it comes to surgical procedures? Is the patient protected against a surgeon completing an entirely different, undiscussed procedure (keep in mind, I myself was present throughout the whole consultation) or does the surgeon have a right to do what he sees "fit"? We hoped this was going to be the answer to his prayers (and ours, as it has had quite a dampening on our lives having a family member constantly in pain) and instead, it's increasingly becoming our worst nightmare.

Where is the line? More than finding out if he should see a lawyer or not, I'm curious as to whether anyone is familiar with legalities of this nature. Thank you so much for your time.
----------

I am sorry that your Father is going through this situation.

The surgeon has a moral and legal obligation to do what he/she sees as the best thing for the patient. Unfortunately, it is not like taking your car to the shop. At the shop, the mechanic tells you what is wrong and then asks for your permission to do the fixing. In surgery the longer or more times a patient goes under anesthesia the riskier it becomes. Also the consent for the procedure would have stated this as well as stating that medicine is not an exact science. This means that no one can predict with any degree of certainty of what the outcome will be. It is most probable that your father would have been worse off with the Ribloc device. Otherwise the surgeon would have used it. Another example would be if the surgeon saw a tumor in your father during the surgery that for whatever reason was missed on X-rays or CT scans, he would have the legal and moral obligation to either remove the tumor if possible or back out of the procedure all together.

Seeking an attorney for damages is completely up to your father. But one of the questions the attorney is going to ask is to what extent has your father suffered damages that can a dollar amount fixed to them. Pain and suffering don't count unless you have actual damages like a lost time from work, loss of a limb (arm or leg, finger, toes) or the resulting malpractice resulting in your father having to take disability. Was the Ribloc procedure to take away the pain? Would the Ribloc procedure have restored him to near perfect health or at least made him able to return to work. Just some things to think about.  (+ info)
