Are these signs of a panic attack or hyperventilation or worse?

I am a 21 year old female in relatively good health. Last week I experienced these symptoms: chest discomfort, chest tightness, heart palpatations, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, hard breathing as if being choked, light-headed, and random bouts of dizziness. Now I have never experienced these symptoms before and all at once! These came on suddenly and unexpectedly. It's been about one week later and a little bit every day I have experienced some of the same symptoms but not all. Last night though, out of no where, I became sweaty, dizzy, my chest felt tight and my heart was palpatating and my breathing was hard as if there wasn't enough oxygen. It only lasted a few minutes and eventually went away. At this moment, I feel a bit of tightness in the middle of my chest and that's about it. Now I have researched these symptoms and they all point to a panic attack or hyperventilation. Though I have nothing to panic over. Could these be signs of something worse?
Are there any natural ways of relieving these symptoms?

never try to "guess" what might be going on. You can develop heart problems regardless of what age. I was having what they thought were "panic attacks" come to find out I actually had a CLOT and had to start injections in my stomach to thin my blood out. The EMT's even laughed at me and said it was psycho-symptomatic.....ALWAYS get it checked out regardless of how long it takes out......and NEVER take the first opinion.....always get at least a 2nd opinion....oh and I am in my mid 20's.

oh and panic attacks to come on suddenly and WHENEVER......I had a history of them and you feel like your about to expire........they do take on a physical form of their own.  (+ info)

Why does hyperventilation during CPR cause a decrease in venous return to the heart?

Because you are doing too much blowing and too little pumping. The reason for CPR is to keep blood going to the brain until the heart can be fixed. Hyperventilation causes the brain's blood vessels to constrict (due to low carbon dioxide.) The brain can't get as much blood, so the CPR becomes less effective.

Also patients aren't hyperventilated prior to intubation, they are pre-oxygenated to keep them from becoming too hypoxic.  (+ info)

Relief from hyperventilation?

I suffer from upper respiratory breathing, i.e. breathing from the stomach/chest area and not the tummy. It leaves me feeling light headed, vague and anxious. It also leaves me feeling like I have a cold. Any remedies would be gratefully appreciated.

slow down your breathing. we all use the upper respiratory system to breathe. get counseling.  (+ info)

why does pulse rate rise after hyperventilation?

so breathing in and out really quick, why does the heart beat faster when we do that? any help is aprreciated, thank you
----------

Your heart beats faster when you do this because the amount of oxygen intake also increases. This oxygen is being absorbed by your body through your blood in your lungs. Oxygen has to be burned faster so, your heart should also pump faster for this oxygen to be burned immediately.  (+ info)

what are nursing orders and interventions for breathing pattern ineffective related to hyperventilation?

what are nursing orders and interventions for breathing pattern ineffective related to hyperventilation as manifested by RR of 28/min?and rationale for those nursing orders and interventions.....
----------

Nursing orders will deal mostly with breaking the cycle of excessive CO2 depletion and anxiety. These may involve breathing into a brown paper bag or pursed lip breathing. Both will cause CO2 retention, although bag breathing is a little faster. Other orders may include observing the patient for any possible triggers for the anxiety that starts the cycle, any noticeable regularity of the symptoms, etc. Also patient education about the causes and ways to deal with the problem.  (+ info)
