ARE Ear wax removal kits(Murine Ear removal kit) safe if you had prior ear problems?

I'm about to use this kit cause doctor recommended it because i have ear wax that is deep inside and i've felt for 4 weeks now like my ear is blocked and and i also feel like a sticky feeling whenever i lie with my right ear against the pillow.

I had an eardrum rupture this year in january but it healed. Then, i also have tinnitus and hyperacusis since 2 years ago. Is it still safe?
----------

Well the only time you are not to use those OTC kits is if there is an ear infection present. Since that is not the case it sounds like you are okay to use it. However may I suggest that if you are able to go to the doctor, go and let them drain it in the office. I have (since I was a child & I am now 33) always had excessive wax in only one ear, I am freaky in that I clean my ears ritually everyday. They say that is bad, but I have had no problems. I had a ruptured ear drum back in 1998 and that was ouch! The doctors kit is SO MUCH BETTER, they shoot your ear with a solution in this thing that resembles a gun, then they tilt your head & wha la, there is goes. It is better than the OTC kits because it is done at a much higher pressure so it really gets in there. Yours may be so deep & lodged that it will not be phased by the kit you have.  (+ info)

Any Advice for Diazepam withdrawal?

I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms: moderate to severe muscle spasms, insomnia, auditory hypersensitivity (Hyperacusis & Tinnitus) and ringing in the ears. I do not want to take any more medications in the benzodiazopine family. Even tried Ambien, with poor results. I normally sleep well, but with the muscle spasm firing off randomly, it is almost impossible to fall asleep naturally or to stay asleep.

One of the most difficult symptoms is the Hyperacusis, because whenever a dog barks, or someone is hammering, or even the refrigerator motor popping when it starts or stops causes a painful nervous reaction, like a shot to the head. This has me most concerned, because it may be longer term than the withdrawal itself.

Anyway, I am seeking some advice that may help me lessen the severity of these symptoms. I am so jumpy and nervous, which is not my normal state. But unfortunately, I have been on this medication for some years, and who knows what long term affects may occur?

Strange ear sensation after surgery?

I'll do my best to keep this brief...

The six months following my wisdom teeth extraction have been difficult ones. As a result of what I was told was a ``particularly difficult'' extraction on the right side of my jaw, I've had sensitivity/hyperacusis in both my ears and persistent (but dull) TMJ pain on both sides of my face, but especially on the right.

Six months after my surgery I continue to feel a non-painful but annoying pressure sensation in my right ear that doesn't go away when i ``pop'' my ears, swallow, etc. It's quite uncomfortable, but about a month ago I had my ear checked out by an ear/nose/throat specialist following an infection and he said he saw no significant damage or symptoms that are unusual following an infection or major jaw surgery.

My question is, what might this pressure feeling be, and what can I do to get rid of it? I plan on meeting with the oral surgeon who worked on me as well as a TMJ specialist, and possibly another ear doctor as well.
----------

Teeth are fed by blood vessels and nerves that go up through the roots. When the teeth are extracted, especially in "difficult" extractions, these surrounding tissues are severely traumatized. Most heal pretty fast except for the nerve tissues. They can take much longer.
During oral surgery the jaw is propped open - and wider than you normally open it. If the surgery was difficult it probably lasted longer than normal. I'm betting that the discomfort you're feeling is in the TMJ rather than the ear and I'm betting that it's a traumatized nerve. They're all up there together and sensations can be referred from one area to another. TMJ pain is often felt as an earache.
I'm also gonna guess that you can't do much to get rid of it. You'll probably just have to wait for it to heal.
I'm not a doctor so my bets and guesses are just that. Hopefully you will get some answers when you meet with the good doctors.
Best of luck to you.  (+ info)

is it wrong that i want to make myself recover before i get a job and start my career?

hello,
after i finished uni a year ago i suddenly developed a medical condition called Hyperacusis. this means that i have extreme sensitivity to noise. my doctors and my audiologist ordered me not to work, basically everyday noise is too much for me to handle and can cause permenant damage to the hearing system. therefore i cant work at the moment. im doing all i can to recover, and i want to get a job more than anything right now, but the thing is, i havent told my friends about my condition, and now they think im being lazy and they r making me feel bad for not having a job for a year. so is it bad of me for not having a job because i need to recover first?
thank you,
oliver

Taking care of your health is your number one priority if you can afford to not start your career. Listen to your doctors, they have your best health interest at heart.

Your friends and family will understand if you are upfront and honest to them about your medical condition. A real friend will be supportive and won't be negative about you taking the time to get well. If they aren't supportive, they aren't your real friends.

Good luck oliver and I hope you heal completely soon.

With the information you have given, it is very difficult to understand how you got your problem. Perhaps if you gave more information.  (+ info)

What can I do? Everything is so hopeless.?

I recently (2 months ago) developed tinnitus (a constant loud ringing in my ears) and hyperacusis (an extreme sensitivity to sound). There is no cure for either of those, and they will most likely be permanent. What makes it really bad is that I'm only 20, and a musician (I've played the violin for 14 years). I always had dreams of having a career in music, but now I feel like that will never happen. It hurts my ears just to play my violin. I feel so hopeless. I don't know what to do, or where to go.

I am seeing a counselor, but he doesn't really know what I'm going through, and I've seen doctors, and they said the best thing I can do is to get back to my normal life. But that is tough because my normal life (music) is what caused my tinnitus and hyperacusis in the first place. Please help me. I don't know what to do.
----------

20 yrs old and the entire world to explore! We are in our 60's and hubby has had tinnitus since being in the military, about your age now. It is annoying and as he got older and his hearing got worse the tinnitus made it even more difficult to hear, but what a life we have had the past 40 yrs.!!! Just wanted to let you know how much you can have to look forward to after you get over the loss of your music. Best wishes to you. Have fun, live life!  (+ info)

Some kind of disorder linked from Bipolar or Obsessive-compulsive disorder?

So i've been reading about bipolar and I know I don't have it but i'm thinking I have something related to it or something. I don't really have any of the right syptoms just one or two.
Noise Intolerance - Like lets say I am trying to do something that requires concentration on my part and I hear a noise like someone sniffing because their sick and their nose is stuffed up. I cannot concentrate and continue on what I'm doing in till the noise is stopped. It makes me want to yell at the person to stop and it always seems like their sniffing is so much louder then it really is.
Or if I'm sleeping with someone and their breathing loudly. I want to smother them with a pillow so they'll stop breathing and I can sleep in quite.
I'm not depressed at all. Every once in awhile I just get sad for no reason, but that only happens every few months or so.
I'm very impulsive.
I'm VERY forgetful. It's so bad that I have to write down everything I have to do, and then remember about the list, or nothing will ever get done.
It's not hyperacusis because noises don't hurt my ears, just annoy the crap out of me.

Just because a few things irritate you does not mean you have a disorder. To have a mental disorder diagnosed it has to severely interfere with day to day life.  (+ info)

Why am I about the only one around me who gets injured easily, was I chosen by Nature/God to be this way?

I don't know.. i've had many injuries before and i try to learn from it and be more careful but aparently i keep getting injured and almost nobody around me ever has any injuries. i'm not talking abut me being a guy into competitive sports! No. I'm just a simple person, yes i do exercise but not the risky kind.

this are some of the stupidest, easiest ways i got injured and its like i didn't even do much and i'm injured for life

-1998 tried a back bend..chest ligament snapped and now i can't even do much pushups.. i have to be real careful. I'm ok now but if i try to do alot with my chest( hard punching or pushups) it hurts to death

-2000 ran a little.. my knee ligament badly damaged and it's been 9 years i stil have it bad.. But i'm used to it
-2001 to 2004 Various chestt pains where i felt like dying.
-2004 some serious male problems when i got injured by doing nothing, i just woke up one day from my sleep and i was like dying. took 1 year to heal

-2005 lost my normal hearing just because i played ONE drum sound on the Yamaha keyboard. It's not just tinnitus, it's a worse thing called hyperacusis.

-2006 Ate something and had a terrible stomach ache, went to emergency ...was about to be operated..but luckly they said no and then got better
-2007 Lifted some simple File folders and my shoulder ligament broke.
-2008 Did one slow, just for practice Karate spin kick and my knee meniscus tear
-2009 Just in February 9th, ate a salad and it had to be that bit down and the crouton was hard and it did something to my molar. It's hurting everyday for 3 weeks and i think it's broken.

You see! I get injured by anything even if it's alittle move that almost nobody gets injured by.

Recently with my possibly damaged molar tooth, i've been depressed and always thinking "Here we go another dumb injury"..

I dont know how to stop getting injured easily.. what can i do?

I try to think before i do things but it's like my mind just does it before thinking. i'm 29 male by the way
----------

Wow! I am utterly astonished. I really wish I could help you. There is nothing to build up immunity to injury other than training. You cant train because the simplest movement injures you. I mean I have no clue how such could possibly be. I think one thing you need to do is get well insured because life could be long for you. AGAIN! I wish I could help you but I honestly doubt anyone can. I feel so bad for you.  (+ info)
