how does a child diagnosed with hydrocephalus, multiple synosis come out later in life?

my daughter is 3 months old now and is developimg quite well but a little behind not to much though, i was wondering if this behind stuff is temporary or long term? how and what can i do to help her learn things more quiker?
----------

While some kids with hydrocephalus have some developmental delays...they are short-term, if they have any. Now, while only your doctor can tell you for certain, I can only speak from personal experience.

I was born with hydrocephalus and I was always in advanced classes in school. I have a college degree and a job and I'm entering law school next fall.

Don't treat your daughter like she's disabled. Work on what she's behind on and she'll catch up. I've led a completely normal life and she can too.  (+ info)

Whats the difference between hydrocephalus and brainswelling?

I'm trying to understand why I was told by a Dr. that "right now he(my son) has brainswelling not hydrocephalus".
----------

Hydrocephalus is when there is fluid on the brain, while brainswelling is when the brain is swollen.  (+ info)

What happens if a child is diagnosed with "sunset eyes" or hydrocephalus?

My nephew was diagnosed with "sunset eyes" today, but the doctor told his mom to wait. Is waiting a good idea? Should she get a second opinion? Could this just go away?
----------

with something as serious as her son's mental health, i would definately get a second opinion. doctors are great, we all depend on them, but sometimes they make a bad judgement. a second opinion couldn't hurt anything, only help.  (+ info)

Just lost baby due to hydrocephalus, could i be pregnant again?

I recently lost a baby girl due to hydrocephalus on Feb 21st, Got my 1st cyle on 27th of march, Having pregnancy symptoms (I think) Or am I just feeling this way because we are ttc and we want to be...
I really don't remember what it feels like to be not pregnant...
I was 24 weeks pregnant at the time we lost her. Breasts are very tender. I started my 1st period on the 27th of march.
----------

I think it may be a bit too early to notice any signs or symptoms just yet. I know after being pregnant so long u forget what it feels like to not be pregnant. Just Keep your head up and Keep trying. Your little Angel Kate is looking down on you. Keep her in your heart and mind and she'll see to it that you'll be blessed with a sibling for her

All the BABY DUST in the world to you and your family.

GOOD LUCK!!!  (+ info)

I have hydrocephalus and in my 3rd trimester, is it possible for the shunt to malfuntion then go back to?

normal after you have the baby?
I have been having headaches, and I am 35 weeks preg.
If it is over or underdraining after the baby comes will it go back to normal without a revision??
I just don't want another surgery.
what are the risks of hydrocephalus and pregnancy
----------

If you are having headaches you need to go to the ER! Even if there is a chance of it going back to normal you can't risk it.  (+ info)

Is a person fitted with a shunt for hydrocephalus has to live with the shunt for the rest of his life?

I have a 7 yrs old son who was fitted with a shunt when he was 2 months old.He is a normal kid studying in kindergarten. Will he have to live with the shunt all his life.He has a little difficulty recognizing letters and sounds. Is this difficulty due to his medical condition since otherwise he is a very bright kid with a lot of intelligence.
----------

Yes, learning difficulty may be due to hudrocephalus. As he grows older, he may outgrow the shunt and it will have to be replaced. He will have to have a shunt for the rest of his life.  (+ info)

Could I join the military even if I have hydrocephalus with a shunt?

I am perfectly able to do just about everything, I only need to get into shape. But is it possible for me to join? I started having seizures again randomly, but they only started when I exercised for an exausting period of time, and i'm sure pills could take care of them. But is it possible for me to join?

My daughter has hydrocephalus any advice from adults with the condition?

My daughter Maddie is 4 in Jan and has been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus since she was 4 months, she's perfectly normal with physical and mental ability's as any other 4 yr old, im Just wondering what can i expect as she gets older! I no each child with the condition varies in extremes and ability's but any advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance :-)
No negatives, or 'check with your doctor' comments, if u aint got anything constructive 2 say then please dont post it Thanks again
----------

Sorry to hear your daughter's got hydrocephalus- I've had it since birth and am now 22 and just graduated from college with high honors, so as long as she's hitting all of her milestones there's a good chance she'll have relatively few problems.

I know everyone's situation is different, but for me, the biggest problem I've had with the hydrocephalus has been muscle spasms related to one revision when they tried to take out some shunt tubing that had calcified and didn't want to budge. Relatively speaking that hasn't been the end of the world, so I'm a pretty happy camper. I hope this helped!  (+ info)

Has anyone tried that NUCCA treatment for hydrocephalus and migraines?

I have heard from people who tried it that it works miracles for normal headaches and migraines and stuff, but it also supposedly cures hydrocephalus. Is this true? Has anyone with hydrocephalus tried this and did it work for you? I'd really like to get better! :)
----------

NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) is a specific chiropractic technique that focuses on improving the alignment and function of the upper neck bone C1 (aka atlas). It is a very light, and precise technique that can have some profound effects. NUCCA works by improving the functioning of the body's master system, the nervous system. When the body's nervous system is functioning optimally, symptoms of ill health will go away over time and the body will begin to heal itself

NUCCA is performed by Doctors of Chiropractic (aka D.C., chiropractor, chiropractic physician) who specialize in this technique. NUCCA and chiropractic have been shown to help with headaches, migraines, vertigo, and many other conditions. A recent study in the Journal of Human Hypertension found that NUCCA adjustments reduced blood pressure better and longer than 2 prescription medications could do when taken together. The reason chiropractic helped, is that chiropractic optimizes body function.

It would depend on the cause of your hydrocephalus...I take it that you are using a shunt currently? I am a Chiropractor and I have treated patients who have a shunt in for past hydrocephalus, but that is not why they came to see me. They typically came for headaches or neck pain. Chiropractic works fantastic for tension headaches and migraines. I am uncertain if your hydrocephalus would be helped. However, given that chiropractic is safer than any medication or surgery, I would say that you have nothing to lose by trying. I have a colleague who is a NUCCA chiropractor in North Carolina. If you are looking for a NUCCA chiropractor I would suggest calling and asking if they do that technique or looking in the phone book or online for a "NUCCA Chiropractor".

Chiropractors are "real" doctors and you do not need a referral to visit a Doctor of Chiropractic. Most chiropractors would be willing to speak with you for a consult before you ever decided to do anything. Good luck, and take care.  (+ info)
