Is it normal to feel like your heart is going to jump out of your chest when having hot flashes?

For the past two weeks, I've been unable to sleep at night due to night sweats and hot flashes. When I get a hot flash within a couple of minutes it feels like my heart is going to jump right out of my chest. Is this normal? Any remedies for relief?
----------

Oh boy! I hear ya!...anxiety takes over when the hot flashes start... I know it's almost unbelievable and /or unbearable but you have to calm yourself..in my case the sweating won't stop until I wake up and get a glass of icy water. Put the fan on high, try to relax and as soon as your body temperature goes down you should be able to fall asleep again. If not, try Benadryl, one capsule just before bedtime or Melatonin, one 3mg pill. Try to establish a calm just before you go to bed routine.. it helps me.  (+ info)

Can anyone recommend any natural remedies for hot flashes?

I am 53 and am finally I believe in menopause. I am not feeling to bad except for a few headaches and exhaustion but mostly the hot flashes. Living here in Texas with the 100 degree heat sure didnt help (looking forward to winter), anyway I do not want to go on any drugs and prefer to do it naturally. Can anyone recommend any vitamins, teas, foods anything that will help my hot flashes. Thanks in advance.

Why do I get hot flashes and have an emotional rush whenever I hear a baby cry?

I have a four year old and I have never went through this before. I know I;m not pregnant so that cant be it. But whenever I hear a baby cry no matter if it's in a store or anywhere, I feel overwhelmed with emotions that result in me almost breaking down and crying and also I get hot flashes. I don't think about it, it's like my body does it on its own. Any advice would be helpful.
----------

I don't know if this helps or not, but I read in a prenancy book I had before I had my baby that mostly EVERY single person reacts to a baby crying in the same way; thier heartrates increase and they experience something comparable to anxiety. I always felt that way whenever I heard a baby cry before I had my daughter, now I am used to it, but before I had her I would always think "Oh god PLEASE make it stop." I would seriously have anxiety, though I don't think that is what you are describing, but it may be.   (+ info)

Which is better for hot flashes flax seed oil or fish oil?

Which is better for hot flashes flax seed oil or fish oil? I have tried soy which doesn't work.

Thanks,
----------

Probably fish oil. Hot flashes can get terrible is your stressed or even occur when your stressed and fish oil relieves stress and relaxes you. Relaxing is the best thing for hot flashes so take the fish oil and it shall help you. Flax seed has to do with fiber which is needed when your constipated. So, I doubt you need the flax seed oil, unless your constipated too.  (+ info)

Does anyone know of a natural supplement to take for hot flashes?

I had a hysterectomy in July, and I have really been having trouble sleeping, and a lot of problems with hot flashes. Does anyone know of a natural supplement that would help? I take medication for high blood pressure, so black co hash, is out of the question, along with ginseng, etc. I also cannot sleep, at all. I lay awake all night long, eyes wide open. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mexican Wild Yam has been shown to be quite effective in alleviating hot flashes. It's available at Whole Foods or any health food store.

Can my husbands hot flashes after morning shower be related to diabetes?

Hello,My husband has had type 1 for abot 7 years (he is 35) and has recently started having severe hot flashes with sweating after his a.m. shower.

Anyone with similar symptoms? I can't find much on Web searches.

Also, he gets bad leg cramps at night, any ideas on this?
----------

It could be his diabetes, it could be something else going on. I would have him visit his doctor for blood work.  (+ info)

Is it normal for me to have hot flashes?

I'm 16 and get hot flashes a alot at night. And if I take the covers off then I'm freezing and if I put them over me then I'm burning up, even though the temperature in my room is constant. And if I leave them on too long I start getting sweaty. What's wrong with me?
----------

This definitely sounds hormonal. I had bad hot flashes during all three of my pregnancies, and also while I was on Depo. Talk to your doctor to rule out any other possibilities and to find out what to do about it.  (+ info)
