Hoarseness....?

If you are getting hoarse how can you prevent it from getting worse? Does anyone know? I'm drinking warm tea but is there anything else??
----------

yes, drink warm drinks not cold. Try tea with honey, or water with lemon, these work pretty well! Feel better.  (+ info)

hoarseness?

hi my 4 year old has had had a really bad horseness to her voice she says its not sore or its not hurting in any way any help please
----------

Hoarseness in a child may have be as a result of vocal strain eg shouting, or it can also be a sign of a more serious illness. I would make a call to my GP (or at least a community paediatric nurse or a non-emergency hospital number).  (+ info)

What can cause hoarseness in your voice?

I've been having a lot of sharp pains in my stomach and I know its because of acid reflux that I suffer. Could that be causing it?? I haven't been drinking Nexuim for my acid reflux because I don't have insurance and haven't been able to afford the pills on my own. Do you think the acid reflux could cause hoarseness in your voice? please advise :(

When someone yells a lot, say every few days can it cause hoarseness?

What can happen to the vocal cords if someone yells a lot? (Say every other day at the top of their lungs? Can it cause chronic hoarseness and a raspy voice? How long does it take to heal?
----------

I wouldn't think permanently, but in the short term it can absolutely do everythign you describe. If they take it easy on their voice for a few days it will be fine, if they renew the damage with more screaming, it'll take way longer.  (+ info)

Is swine flu associated with a distinctive hoarseness?

I read in a (possibly unreliable) internet report that it was. Has anyone who's had confirmed swine flu found themselves very hoarse? My kids have all had flu-like illness, high temperature, bit of vomiting and very hoarse. Curious about the hoarseness as GPs are no longer testing routinely.
----------

Yes quite a few people are reporting this, but also in young children the hoarseness could also be explained by a secondary complication such as croup which is often caused by viral infections. The croup cough tends to be barking and hoarseness, akin to the noise of a seal. This 'croupy' sound is due to inflammation and swelling of the vocal cords in the larynx.

A classic cough that one gets with the flu tends to be dry, so hoarseness would not be uncommon.

Edit
I've just had a quick scan on the net, and if you look in many of the health forums, many people are reporting a hoarse cough. I can't find any reliable medical link that says this is a common trait of H1N1, but if more than one of your children has this hoarseness then it's likely a result of this virus.

What is wrong with my son- hoarseness but no other symptoms?

My 5-year old son woke up Monday morning with a hoarse voice. He's got no fever, no sore throat, throat isn't swollen, not coughing, sneezing, etc. He's not tired and is acting completely normal. It's like he was screaming at a concert all night long, which of course, he didn't do. What could be wrong?
----------

Yes, could be allergies - but also just part of a virus going around.
Drink lots, suck on hard candies (not necessary lozenges - peppermints or lemon drops are good).
Try steaming him.
But watch out for a croupy cough, just in case...  (+ info)

What could be d cause of throat constriction with terrible headache and voice hoarseness.Pls help, very painful?

Been experiencing for more than 5 yrs already.I had throat nodule removal operation last July, I thought my problems would go away.It did not. I always feel nauseous because of the terrible headache.
----------

You do have a muscle under your chin that you can release and that should make some difference on your throat.
Press your thumbs up under your chin near the front. Between them you should feel a muscle that is very tight. Press your thumbs into that and hold. They really wont go into it for it's like it wants nothing to penetrate it, but press onto it and hold.
Relax now, take a deep breath and exhale and don't tense up any part of your body.
After about 30 seconds the muscle should start to release. When it does, slowly start to raise your head at the rate of the release. When you have your neck fully extended remove the pressure but hold your head there for one minute longer.  (+ info)
