Hip replacement and dislocation?

I had a hip replacement 3 years ago..but in the last 2 months I have dislocated it twice and had to go to A&E in ambulance in terrible pain...they told me I have done some movements that caused this to happen but why has this happened now after 3 years of no problem at all ..I have now become quite nervous about bending or even putting on my shoes..and I really don't want to be be this way..I was doing so well getting my life back and doing so many things that I could not do...any tips or advice ..many thanks.

you need to see physio and do some strengthening exercises following your disclocation. I would follow postop precautions for 6-8 weeks following a dislocation just to let muscles re-strengthen so no bending, sex, heavy housework, driving etc for 6-8 weeks,

If this keeps happening ask to see your ortho surgeon again - it may be that hip has been faulty or you need an adduction brace for a couple of weeks.  (+ info)

Could this hip pain be a hip subluxation or partial dislocation?

In September, I had my first deep tissue stone massage. The next day my hip was sore, but I wasn't too worried, since the massage therapist said it's normal to be sore for a bit. That was the only place I was sore. The pain gradually got worse to the point that over the next month I was limping and some days the pain really drained my energy. I also have Crohn's and thought maybe this was a new symptom, but I have never had any pain in a joint like this. Then 3 weeks ago or so, in the middle of the night when I went to turn over in bed, I felt what seemed like a gentle pop like my hip went back in to socket and the pain decreased by about 90%. It was basically better, but a little sore for the last couple weeks. Then this last week, I was lying on the couch and felt what seemed to be my hip popping out of place again. Not that much pain, but more sore again. That was about 5 days ago. Now I am back to that excruciating hip pain that constricts my movement and causes me to limp. Ideas?
It's my plan to contact my doctor tomorrow. I'm just looking for opinions, not a definitive diagnosis.

Possibly, although more trauma is usually required. An x-ray during the presence of symptoms will make or refute the diagnosis.  (+ info)

I was born with congenital elbow dislocations, I would like to find a surgeon willing to replace the joints.?

This surgery has been recommended by doctors but they are worried about the possibilities that the surgery won't work or infection will set in. I can't keep taking painkillers all my life. I am a 46yr old woman.

I am 6 months post partum and I am still having hip dislocation/pain.?

I had my son on Dec. 27th 2008. I went to see an ortho doctor while I was pregnant because my hip kept "popping" out of place. The doctor told me that it was doing this because of a hormone that is released during pregnancy called relaxin and that it would clear up on its own. So, I did the physical therapy to help with the short term pain and continued on with my pregnancy. Well here I am 6 months after my child was born and I am still having this problem. What does everyone think it is? Can you still have relaxin in your body 6 months after birth?
----------

I would go consult with a chiropractor... mine helped with a lot of my hip and back pain. It does not sound normal at all to still be feeling popping and pain at 6 months postpartum. During pregnancy the baby can be pushing up against different parts of your body and the strain can make changes to your spine and back muscles. If you have some chiropractic therapy I think it will help get you back into alignment.  (+ info)

My Baby may have Congenital hip dysplasia....?

Did any ones baby have this and how did you handle it? What was the process like when it was getting fixed?
----------

My cousin was born with that and he had to have surgery on one hip when he was several months old and then he had to have surgery on the other hip after he started walking. They normally do 2 separate surgeries.  (+ info)

Hi, I'm female,40 yrs old and 2 years ago, i was diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia,?

almost all doctors suggested total hip replacement, I'm sure i want to do it but I'm a little apprehensive about changing it again after 15 years. I know I don't have a choice, right now i'm taking Viartril-s1500mg sachet and it feels a little better, also a supplement called revers age by reliv. If someone, my age is expereincing or had experience this pain, please share your story to me. Thanks. I wonder if i can get something that will last 30 years.
----------

I own a health and nutrition business and have taught fitness. I am just curious as to whether you are taking only the Reversage, or whether you are also taking the Classsic, Innergize and Fiberestore? They all work together. Has the person who you are getting the Reversasge from connected you to any stories of other people with hip dysplasia, as there are a number of them out there that they should be able to connect you to? Have they recommended Arthrafect at all? How long have you been taking this?
I just want to encourage you not to quit taking what you are taking, as the thing you want doesn't happen overnight, and you don't want to shortcut yourself.
I have had excellent results with a very nasty joint issue in my wrist, and my husband avoided another shoulder surgery (having previously had 14 shoulder dislocations and three shoudler surgeries) using the same supplement that you are using. This may not be the answer you are looking for here, but is just a bit of encouragement.  (+ info)

Preventative Hip Dislocation Help/Taping?

Does anyone know how to tape hips to prevent them from popping out of the socket? Similar to knee taping-but for hips?

I have been to see doctors many times-who say I have abnormal hips and the only way to fix it is surgery. I ride horses and run and bike a lot, so surgery isn't an option at this point. But is there a way to tape them to minimize how often they dislocate?

Thanks!
Thanks, I didn't know if it was possible to just tape it when I was active to help keep it in place. I can't take the time off for the surgery for another couple of years-I'd miss too much in the riding. Thank you very much, though.
----------

No, that would be pretty impossible.
Since you are so athletic I would think that you would want the surgery and put it all behind you. The recovery time on surgery such as that is minimal now, as I'm sure your doctor told you.
Have you ever heard the old saying an Ounce of Prevention will save a Pound of Pain? It definitely applies here. If it were me or anyone in my family I would prefer to have the surgery while still young.
You'd be back up and running in no time!  (+ info)

What qualifies as a hip dislocation?

Last December, I was practicing the splits (I am a dancer). I was about 6-8 inches off the ground, taught, stretching, like i have done thousands of times before.

My femur I assume, suddenly hit the floor with a huge pop and bang, and i was in excruciating pain. I was in the true splits for a second, where I know I don't have the flexibility to do that naturally. I immediately coiled up in pain and had trouble walking for days, and still have pain to this day. I cannot do many dance moves any more. Chiropractors and physiotherapists often don't believe what happened. Can anyone help?
Thanks

I was born with a congenital hip defect and had a replacement at birth. I haven't had any problems since...

I have mentioned this but neither my doctor, midwife or hospital seems interested!

This, from a website on joint replacement developed by an ortho surgeon as a service to patients, should ease your mind.
http://totaljoints.info/women_THR.htm
(scroll down a bit for the section on pregnancy)

However I note that you say that you "had a hip replacement at birth". If this is correct, you cannot now have the same hardware in your hips that you received at such a young age because the hardware wouldn't "grow" as your body grows. Replacements aren't usually done until the skeleton has stopped growing. Are you SURE your hip was totally replaced or did you have some other surgical procedure to correct the defect?

In any case, the information in the above link includes a recommendation that you consult your ortho surgeon before delivery. Good advice.  (+ info)
