What are some risks associated with hip dislocation?

Someone with a hip dislocation is more likely to dislocate their hip again. Also, there is a chance that while the hip is dislocated, it can put pressure on a nerve and cause severe pain or numbness.  (+ info)

where can i find infomation on congenital dislocation of the knee?

my baby daughter was born with cdk an i would like as much infomation on the condition an treatment as posabile
----------

Congenital dislocation of the knee (CDK) is a relatively rare birth defect where the baby's knees are not in their normal position. In half of the cases, the knee is twisted so that it faces outward rather than being positioned in a straight line with the rest of the leg.

The condition may be mild and only involve the knee being in the wrong position, which can be treated by splinting. Or, it may be severe, where the tibia (one of the lower leg bones) is dislocated from the femur (the thighbone).  (+ info)

joint pain in hip. Feeling like dislocation is about to happen when I move certain ways?

I can remember these pains starting from my early teens.
I don't think it's due to my use of the joints because the problem is the same as my activity level changes.

Every now and then, (especially when i'm sitting on the floor or a bed) when I move my leg I feel like my joint is about to pop out (pain is usually on the inside of hip)
There is a sudden pain and it's very intense (i usually shout out loud and stop moving)
I'm wondering if it's the normal feeling that people get just before a joint cracks? When I get those feelings in my fingers I can't stand it and won't let the joint crack because I find it painful (and gross)

This is pretty different but I wonder if i'm over-reacting to this hip joint pain or if there is some condition which would make the bones slide out of place? I'm also wondering if I continued moving would something bad happen? It feels incredibly sore, I don't think I could continue moving when it happened. It really does feel like it's about to disloc

It sure ain't supposed to feel like that! Visit the orthopedic guy. He will probably be able to advise you with no more than a simple x-ray.  (+ info)

can i get dla benefit for my son who has congenital dislocation of patella?

my son is 4 and has congenital dislocation of patella which i have been told it is realy rare he has problems walking as his leg gives way on him, i have been told that it will probably get worse as he gets older, we are now waiting to be refered to great ormond street. i was wondering if i should apply for dla benefit because of his age they would say that he doesn't need any more care than any other 4 year old.
----------

yes do apply - you will get dla. It is more difficult for under 5's to show they need more care than another child the same age but if you sit down and think about it, purely from what you have told us here, your son does need more care than is usual at that age.

There is an excellent downloadable help guide to assist you on www.bhas.org.uk. This guide sets out very clearly what requirements you should be meeting and so on. Also, you could contact your local carer's association who will help you to fill the forms in if you wish. They helped me quite a lot the first time I did it for my children and they also helped me to realise my children were really entitled to dla as I had a similar attitude to you.

Once you get the dla you can also claim carer's allowance for yourself - it is a small sum of money but worthwhile. Please bear in mind that filling in the forms can be quite draining emotionally as you have to look at your son on his worst days and contemplate the things he cannot do or struggles to do rather than the things he can do (which is how we parents choose to see our children!!). It can be suprisingly emotional.

Good luck to you and your son. I know how confusing these years can be.  (+ info)
