Does continued hidradenitis under the arms lead to breast cancer?

Disclaimer: Any opinions expressed are no substitute for the evaluation and advice of a qualified medical provider.

If this is what you indeed have, when hidradenitis is associated with cancer the most likely type of cancer is "squamous cell carcinoma" in the anal/genital region.

The goals of treatment of hidradenitis are concerned with: symptomatic relief, preventing new lesions, cleansing the effected area and improve environmental conditions that cause the skin follice to get blocked up and inflamed. Antibiotics and corticosteroids are some common medications that may be necessary. These medications usually do not cure the condition. Surgery may be necessary in some cases. The person with this condition should minimize heat exposure and sweating in severe cases, lose weight if overweight, avoid tight clothes that hurt you by rubbing on your skin, avoid deodorants/antiperspirants. You should not give up finding a solution for your condition from a qualified medical provider specializing in dermatology. I hope that this helps you and God Bless.  (+ info)

Has anyone heard of a disease called Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

Yes...sigh. I've been suffering with it for 5 years now...double sigh. It's truly starting to get on my nerves, and is WAY Worse before the start of my menstrual cycle. I've had two unsucessful surgeries on it, and was told there was nothing else I can do about it, accept to try Plastic Surgery. One person said it was the best thing she can ever do, one person said it was the Worst thing she can ever do. It is a huge decision to make, and I still don't know which way to turn. All I can say about it, is it's a darn right nuisance. It starts out as an inflamed boil, some grow to be the size of an orange...mine was the size of a golf ball and is located in my left groin. Once the boils burst they begin leaking pus, (This is not the infected kind) but a constant drainage from the open wound. If you notice a small lesion, you should smear some Neosporin on it, to prevent it from getting any larger. Once a large one has burst, you can ask the doctor if you can try a cream called Silvadine Cream. Use it twice a day, until the wound closes. Unfortunately, this cream no longer works for me. But I've been using it for 5 years. I believe I've become immune to it. After the first surgery, it took a year to close up. After the second surgery, once the stitches were removed, the whole thing opened back up again, the surgery was useless. Surgery is not for everyone, and while it may work temporarily for some, the condition itself is not curable.
Hope that helps.   (+ info)

Does ProActive help Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

I'm looking for a severe acne treatment. I wondered if ProActive would work. Has anyone tried to use it to treat Hidradenitis Suppurativa? I was told I have that skin condition (where you get boils, blackheads, and zits in armpits and groin or places you sweat or skin rubs together). Any suggestions as to what I should use to treat the acne and help heal the ugly purple-ish scars?
----------

Liz,
I tried the ProActive for my HS and it didn't make any difference, positive or otherwise. Keep in mind, that all of us are different and what works for one may not work for another. I agree with the person who encouraged you to talk with your doctor(sorry, didn't make a note of the name before responding), your overall health is as important as treating this debilitating disease. Keep your head up and keep working through it.
Good luck...Rebecca  (+ info)

So I have what the dr calls hidradenitis supprativia,?

I know all about MRSA and I am being tested but the hole in my armpit is now surrounded by a red circle is that normal in the healing process... I am on Bactrim and have been since Monday morning. I just need to know if I should go back into the hospital?
----------

Hi, I've had hidradenitis suppurativa for 20 years now, and I am very sorry you got this diagnosis. It sounds normal, make sure you stay on the bactrim, I would go back to the hospital only if your fever goes up. It takes awhile for it to heal, but I'm not a doctor. I just know about this disease, if you are uncomfortable, then go back, but I think you would just be wasting your time, but def go back if you're having a increase in fever, chills. I wish you all the best.  (+ info)

Question about possible hidradenitis suppurativa?

I may have this, but I am not sure. My abscesses are only under my right armpit. I have never had any any where else, not my left arm pit of my groin area, no where else. I have been having them since about March. I am 23 years old. Is it normal for those who have this skin disorder to only get the huge bumps in one area like that? Like I said, it is only under one arm, no where else. Thanks you all.
----------

Hidradenitis Suppurativa starts off small and in one area, but as it progresses it spreads to other areas of the body (This can take months to years -- but it will spread), i.e: left armpit, groin. I would encourage you to go to a dermatologist right away and deal with it before it get worse. It does sound ike HS -- please get to a dermatologist -- they specialze with this type of disease.  (+ info)

Is there a cure for hidradenitis suppurativa?

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, relapsing, suppurative cicatrizing disease occurring in the apocrine follicles. It is not curable if your diagnosis is definitive for hidradenitis suppurativa. However the disease can be managed. If the patient smokes cigarettes they need to quit since quitting sometimes helps with the hidradenitis suppurativa.
