I was just wondering if anyone has completed a successful SSI first claim for the condition hidradenitis?

And for those that did get a successful claim through the first time, what do you feel were the elements that led to your success that first time?
----------

It depends on the severity and must be evaluated on a case by case basis. Social Security has outlined major diseases and disorders that are almost always considered disabling. Hidradentitis suppurativa is one of these, but again depends on severity. The case is an automatic allowance if, and Only if the following applies:
8.06 Hidradenitis suppurativa, with extensive skin lesions involving both axillae, both inguinal areas or the perineum that persist for at least 3 months despite continuing treatment as prescribed.
If this does not apply, your case will be decided based on the limitations caused by the condition.

Is there a proven link between PCOS and hidradenitis suppurativa?

I've had PCOS since I was 16 yrs. old. I had my daughter in August 2008 and since then have had lumps form under my armpits and groins. My dermatologist says its due to PCOS causing a hormone imbalance in my body.

Are there other women with PCOS who have this condition or similar experiences? How do you deal with it?
----------

well I dont even know what PCOS is but I have had HS since I was a kid and let me tell you I cant answer you question but I wanted to say that the best thing I have found for my boils( and believe me, ive had my fair share) is this old anticeptic called "Campho Pheneic" (if that how you spell it) anyway it will draw the boil right out and it will dry it out to. just wanted to share that.

Also get on yahoo and find a support group, yeah sometimes youll get an abundence of annoying letters but, those people really know their stuff, and they know so much collectively!!! anyway sorry for your luck, just remember god shapes all things for good and everything happens for a reason!!!!  (+ info)

Is Hidradenitis Suppurativa dangerous in pregnancy?

I have been diagnosed with HS but want to have one more child. Are there any woman with this diagnosis that have had children? Did you have any medical issues either for yourself or most importantly the baby? Any with teenage children that do or do not have the condition? I am really nervous about passing this to another person.
----------

I think, in general, Hidradenitis does not cause adverse reactions during pregnancy, at least none that you're not already used to. I do know of a woman who had a c-section and the incision made from the Cesarean developed into a lesion and boil. However, my mother is an HS sufferer and she has unfortunately passed it on to me. I'm 18 years old now and have suffered with it for over 8 years. I have several other family members that suffer from HS as well so there IS a link in genetically passing the disease.  (+ info)

I have Hidradenitis Supprativa. Would I be on the list of persons who need the H1N1 Vaccine?

My doctors office has me seeing a Physicians Assistant, not an actual doctor, who can't even pronounce my condition, and he thinks it wouldn't be necessary to get the shot (yet it is a disease that WEAKENS the immune system, and the cysts contain Staph) Does anyone know if I could get it?
----------

Around here at the big public health clinics they are just asking if you have a chronic medical condition that makes you more at risk for the flu- if you can answer yes, you get the vaccine. So you might try at one of these clinics in your area.  (+ info)

What is the cause and treatment for Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

According to eMedicine, the cause is due to blockage of certain sweat glands called "apocrine glands". These glands can be found in at the underarm, near the nipple (areola), and around the groin.

When the glands become blocked, the secretions build up under the skin, basically causing an abscess. Sometimes, bacteria will colonize the area, causing an infection.

Currently, the treatment involves surgery or lasers to drain the abscess and/or remove the affected apocrine gland. Accutane (also known as Isotretinoin) may help prevent future recurrences by decreasing gland size and sebum production. Also, antibiotics may be used if there is an infection.

Here are some ways to prevent future outbreaks:
* Minimize heat exposure and sweating.
* Lose weight if overweight.
* Avoid constrictive clothing and frictional trauma.
* Avoid underarm antiperspirants and deodorants (this has not been proven to make a difference).

Also, the eMedicine article suggests that cigarette smoking may trigger an attack.  (+ info)

What can I do for the hidradenitis suppurativa in my right axillary region?

There is no cure for hidradentis suppurativa, I am sure that you know that. My daughter has this condition and I do know what you are going through. I cam across this website about Colloidal Silver http://www.utopiasilver.com/testimonials/hidradenitis.htm
I have no idea if it works but if you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will se several tesimonals about this product.
The only other things that you can do is to try and dry out the area, sometimes my daughter buts dial soap on a the area and just leaves it there to dry. Grapefruit seed oil, that can be obtained from your local health food store also helps when applied to the area, it brings it to a head pretty fast.
If the spot gets really red and inflamed see your doctor and get anitbiotics. I hope someday that they come up with a cure for this, it really is a painful thing to live with...
Good luck!!  (+ info)

My Sister is suffering from the disease Hidradenitis Suppurativa please tell where will get the treatement?

My Sister is suffering the dangerous skin disease Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Her age is 39 yrs. please suggest any treatment is available for this disease in India or abroad
----------

There is NO CURE for Hidradenitis Suppurativa! There is very little research. HS suffers try many things from sea salts to tea tree oil to help control there break-outs.

At this point, there is no cure or universal treatment for HS.

I suggest your sister find a doctor that has treated patients that has HS and find a good support group to help your sister come to terms with this disease.

Wish her the best!  (+ info)

I got a bump in my vagina could it be Hidradenitis?

I have had HS Disease for about 8 years but for the first time, now that I am 14 weeks pregnant for the first time I noticed that I got a bump that looks like a huge pimple in my vagina and I don't know if it could be the HS Disease.
----------

I doubt it. I imagine it's a blocked Bartholin's gland, which is located in that area. Apply moist heat to the spot, which will encourage it to drain. You can also soak in a tub of hot water. Apply heat as often as you can, and if it doesn't drain itself in a couple days give your OB a call to be seen. Sometimes they need to be drained surgically in the office. HS affects skin, and the skin around the vagina is a little different- it's mucous membrane, and doesn't have sweat glands.  (+ info)
