is herpes zoster need isolation in the hospital and type of isolation and why?

If you are talking about shingles then the answer would be yes you do need isolation in the hospital. Someone who never had chicken pox should not be around this patient for the fact that they might get chicken pox from this patient. Also pregnant women should not be in contact with this patient. The type of isolation the patient would be placed on is contact isolation.  (+ info)

can herpes zoster vaccine be given to an elderly with active herpes zoster?

Acyclovir is used to decrease pain and speed the healing of sores or blisters in people who have varicella (chickenpox), herpes zoster (shingles; a rash that can occur in people who have had chickenpox in the past), and first-time or repeat outbreaks of genital herpes (a herpes virus infection that causes sores to form around the genitals and rectum from time to time). Acyclovir is also sometimes used to prevent outbreaks of genital herpes in people who are infected with the virus. Acyclovir is in a class of antiviral medications called synthetic nucleoside analogues. It works by stopping the spread of the herpes virus in the body. Acyclovir will not cure genital herpes and may not stop the spread of genital herpes to other people.
Vaccine is always administered for prevention and not for treatment.

How to get relief from post herpes zoster? please adivse.?

My mother is suffering from herpes zoster since last 14 months. The effected area is left eye and forehead. There is no wound but there is still pain, burning and elergy.
----------

The condition your mother has is called Post herpetic Neuralgia.
Postherpetic neuralgia results when nerve fibers are damaged during an outbreak of shingles. Damaged fibers aren't able to send messages from your skin to your brain as they normally do. Instead, the messages become confused and exaggerated, causing chronic, often excruciating pain that may persist for months — or even years — in the area where shingles first occurred.

This complication of shingles occurs much more frequently in older adults. Less than 10 percent of people younger than 60 develop postherpetic neuralgia after a bout of shingles, while about 40 percent of people older than 60 do.

If you do develop postherpetic neuralgia, see your doctor right away. Finding an effective treatment to relieve the pain can sometimes be frustrating. You may have to work with your doctor and sometimes other specialists to try a variety of treatments before you find something that helps.

what do you have when you have recurrence of shingles or herpes zoster?

That what we call post herpetic neuralgia, it is primerally a disease of the nerve root pain, so if you have pain without skin erruption then your doctor will prescripe a drug like Carbamazepine or Gabapentin to relief the nerve pain, but if there are erruptions then a topical antiviral must be added  (+ info)

Question about Herpes Zoster & Allergic to Iron?

My boyfriend had the symptoms of Herpes Zoster, I surf lots of photos online and they look 100% alike. However, he does not feel pain or anything. Just itchy. It comes out every couple month, on the back, leg, shoudle, hips, neck; very little.

If he wears iron (Rings, necklace, watch, etc), the problem gets worse.
He is having an appointment with the doctor next week.

My question is, does anyone who's being dignosed as Herpes Zoster ever show allergic reactions to Iron??

Transfer Factors are information molecules of the immune system. They are immuno-modulators and help our immune system to function in an optimal manner. TF molecules are sensitized to various bacteria and virus and their primary function is to recognize and respond to all such threats in the body. TF is not a medicine or herb nor does it contain any vitamins or minerals. It functions as a catalyst and helps our immune system to take care of threats that affect us. The immune system is capable of preparing a counter for the problems faced and the changes are noticed from the 3rd day itself. They do not cause any side effects as studies for several decades have established.  (+ info)
