i had herpes zoster a month ago, pain is gone but i still have been itching on my breast and lesions, why?

the lesions are gone, however brown and reddish marks are not gone, will they dissapear?
i am worried i have developed another condition or is it normal?

Use calamine for itch.
If it persists see a doctor.

I had it before two years and the affected area of skin has not become normal. Probably the colour wont change. I dont remember having itching though.  (+ info)

Would you please tell me about your experience with Herpes Zoster and Shingles (the aftermath of chicken pox)?

I am over 50 and have just had an outbreak of shingles. I am interested in anyone's experience of this, but especially if you are over 50. I have read some very disconcerting information that the pain can last for a very long time after the blisters have healed. Also, has anyone experienced joint pain while having shingles?
I need some encouragement.
Thanks.
Thank you to everyone who responded. Hopefully my case won't be so severe as one of my respondees. I can't imagine having to sleep packed in ice.

I had shingles earlier this year when I was 15...it hurt my hip alot because the doc. said they come off your spinal bone and connect and go from there. and it went to my hip. it'll itch alot. don't itch it though.... its contagious [im sure you know this though] and unless yours is very severe which it probably is since its usually only seen in older people. just take the medicine and do what the doc says. you'll be healed in no time.  (+ info)

How long will it take shingles/herpes zoster to go away? (14 yrs old)?

I've had it for about a week, im 14...i know its odd to have at my age, but basically its freaking killing me, i cant sleep because of it. I just want to know how much longer i need to deal with this...
----------

The infection is almost on its way out at a week, however there are 2 other problems. Firstly the lesions themselves need to heal, secondly unfortunately the nerves supplying the dermatome, area of skin that is affected by the infection, can continue to be painful for extended periods after the infection is long gone.  (+ info)

My son contracted herpes zoster 2 weeks ago. I now have it. I have had chicken pox. Is this possible?

I heard that if you have had chicken pox you cannot get shingles as an adult from someone else. So, am I contagious? Will the members of my family get it even though they have had chicken pox?
----------

nope... its the other way around. if you have had the chicken pox's you are more likely to get shingles. and you can get it several times. unlike the chicken pox which can only be had once. hope you feel better soon  (+ info)

While both viruses belong to the same family, they are not the same virus. So yes, you can have both at the same time. In fact, you have been harboring the chicken pox virus- the herpes zoster, since you had chicken pox. There are antiviral medications that can help supress both virus outbreaks, although no medication will completely keep you outbreak free. Both are usually triggered by stress, chronically being overtired, and poor nutrition is also thought to play a part. Aside from eating well, and basically practicing healthy living habits, there isn't anything else you can do. If you ask the doctor, he/she can recommend some over the counter cold sore treatments to start the moment you feel or notice one breaking out. If you are getting treatment for the shingles outbreak, the same medications that supress it should help with the cold sore. At the moment you have broken out with both because the immune system is under attack from the herpes zoster and the herpes simplex is taking advantage of the situation. They work that way. Not nice, I know. I'm sorry to hear you are suffering outbreaks of both simultaneously and I hope you are able to find some relief from both fairly quickly.  (+ info)

is herpes zoster the same as general herpes? is it sexually transmissive? is it a lifelong disease?

my mom had herpes zoster before, i just wanted to know more about this disease.
----------

Herpes simplex is what causes most cold sores. They can also be caused by sunburn which is why you need to use a good sunscreen on the lips too.

Herpes zoster is another form of herpes and yes you can spread this by skin to skin contact. Shingles is from this and they are very painful and very conagious if you touch them. They usually are on the back and follow a nerve pathway along around to the front. It is possible to make them less severe and spread to much ( on the person who has them) with the use of an antiviral medication called Famvir. This is also used to treat genital herpes.

Once a person has genital herpes you MUST practice safe sex because even without signs of an outbreak they can be spread. There are medications to help prevent outbreaks but you can't cure it.

Every one is at risk for a herpes problem if you have had chicken pox because this is also a form of herpes.  (+ info)
