Is it possible to get a hernia in an incision?

I rencently had surgery for a double ventral hernia and even though my incision is healed I've been having pain in it and my doctor says it just pain that goes with the incision and surgery, but there's a slight buldge in the incision and I am still having pain in my abdomen...could it be due to scar tissue? I've had lots of abdominal surgeries. Is there pain management for scar tissue problems? I just want to be able to have normal functioning again.. I've had the abdominal pain since before my hysterectomy and that was 4 years ago!!! I'm just tired of being in pain and need help but some doctors seem to think it's all "in my head"...PLEASE HELP!!!
----------

it is very possible to have a hernia in an incision (called Incisional Hernia).
however any hernia must NOT be painful unless its complicated by what is called (strangulation) which is a serious condition & does not apply to you apparently.
The scar itself cold be painful for a long time (about a year or so).
You seems to me a little neurotic, just relax, take it easy & concentrate on other stuffs in life rather than pain (like exercise, job, kids, etc)
Good luck  (+ info)

Post open ventral hernia repair bruising?

I had open ventral hernia repair done Wednesday morning, and while overall I'm feeling great, I have some massive bruising. Looks like a huge hemangioma on a newborn, spreading across my abdomen. It's slightly warm to the touch and I did have some slight bright red bleeding today, after my first shower. It's still oozing a bit, but not much. I am so NOT a hypochondriac, but I don't want to overlook something that could be serious either.
My pain is pretty much controlled with the Vicodin, now just pain when I sit down, lie down or get up, which I'm thinking is pretty typical? Once I'm up, I have no real pain walking around, which I've been doing a lot of.
(And bonus for figuring out why this stuff happens on weekends? :-) I know I can still call after hours, but I hate doing that if it's not a real emergency.)
Thanks!

what exacting is it oozzzing? Does it have an odor? How relatively large is the hamngioma,,,fluid filled or just bruised? Some bruising will occur, but you should not a fluid poketing around the area. Check your fever. Call the on call Doc for his group and run the information by him and let him decide. Alot of times MD's will call you back through the switchboard operator to avoid coming to the hospital  (+ info)

Ventral Hernia Repair?

I underwent laprascopic surgery to repair two hernias last Tuesday. On Thursday, I noticed my right thigh was numb. Friday, I called the surgeon's office and talked to his nurse. She said it may be due to lingering effects of the anesthesia and to give it a few days. Over the weekend, it's gone from numb to burning at times. I cannot lay on my back for long periods without it feeling like it's on fire. Last night I had to sleep on the couch sitting up. As soon as I stand up, the burning stops and it goes just to being numb. I've been reading some side effects of laprascopic surgeries and the numb thigh is one of them but it does not say if it will go away or what. I intend to call the surgeon again on Monday morning. I've had hernia surgery in the past and I did not experience this before. Words of wisdom from anyone?

I am also experiencing a NUMB THIGH .. and have been for quite some time now ... Started with a gall bladder operation (laprascopic) Ten months later I developed a hernia where the sight of the insertion was. I had a screen put in to correct that problem... Now another hernia is present beside the screen... An appt with the surgeon last week tells me I need another operation..BUT .. since my gall bladder operation .. My real pain and concern is my PAINFUL NUMB THIGH !!! Anxious to learn more from your question on side effects of laprascopic surgeries ... THANK YOU  (+ info)

Are Ventral Hernia's bad? can they kill you? i need answers?

my mom doesnt have insurance cause she lost her job
and is meeting with a surgin on the 23
will the surgin still do the surgery if it's life threatning?
----------

it is caused by a tear in the stomach wall you can have a portion of your intestine or bowel protrude through the tear it can become pinched and trapped thus causing some very serious problems it is a very serious condition that needs to be evaluated by a doctor right away and yes if left untreated it could kill you and yes a doctor will do the surgery to repair it  (+ info)

Excercising, with a Ventral Hernia?

I have a Venteral Hernia that I have had surgery on twice. 12 weeks after each surgery I was released 100% from medical supervision and was told resuming weight lifting ( no power lifting anymore) and excercising would be fine. Well it wasnt either time. I now have the hernia again but the doctors tell me that there is no need to do surgery again at this time. But when I ask them about excercising they tell me to realize my limits. I do not have any pain with this hernia at this time but since the last surgery "busted loose" again I have been hesitant about excercising and have gained 40 lbs.
I am 6'2 and a awful 260 but felt good and wasnt chunky at 220 and would like to get back to that weight. I work on my cardio, modified diet but it just doesnt seem to keep the weight off, I guess since I was so active untill my first hernia surgery my body just dont burn the calories it needs to now. Any body have any excercise routines for this Hernia dude or living the same situation I am? All responses welcome.

Does anyone out there have a ventral hernia?

I think I might have one of these, but I don't have insurance or the money to go be checked right now. I noticed about a wk ago that when i am standing i have what feels like a rock solid muscle mass about 5 inches by 4 inches wide behind my belly button. well more of where my belly button should be, but i had an umbillical hernia at 2 months old and they sewed my belly button in. I did some searching on google ad this is what i came up with, but i need more info. If not a hernia any other ideas?

ventral hernia repair procedure?

Ventral hernia occurs when part of the contents of the abdominal cavity- most often a piece of intestine-protrudes through the cavity and into the abdominal wall. Normally, the muscles and tissues that line the cavity keep the organs inside. Ventral Hernias are most often caused by a defect in the wall due to surgery.

I have a ventral hernia, a tumor and a rectus diastasis?

I had a total of 6 surgeries in my tummy and 1 in my left breast in the last 8 months i had 4 operations, now I have a big buldge in my stomach, I look like I'm pregnant, I keep going back and forth to the hospital and they still don't operate me, coz they said if they do it may grow again, I'm tired to be getting open all the time, what can I do about it? where can i look for help? I called the insurance and they told me to find a dr. that accepts my insurance, which that's another issue, most of them they don't and when they know of my history, they don't want nothing to do with me, coz it's too complicated, can anyone give me an advise? thanks

Hi Leb Soul,

I am sorry to hear of your predicament. As you have discovered the Insurance Companies are there for their profit not to provide a service to the sick and disadvantaged.

My recommendation would be for you to go to a hospital without insurance. Tell them to bill you. All hospitals are required to treat patients, even those without insurance. Good luck. I am aware that no company will insure you.

It is for reasons like this that we need a Government Insurance plan.  (+ info)
