Has anyone ever had a Ventral Hernia?

Yesterday i went to the doctors because over the last couple of days i have been feeling nauseous all the time, and a hard time having a bowel movement. My doctor said that he felt a hernia right in between my ribs but was able to push it back threw, he told me that i would have to go and see a surgeon and my appointment is tomorrow. I can not feel the hernia but i am still feeling sick. Even if i cant feel it will i need to get surgery? Has anyone ever had this or know someone that can help me? Please.

i,ve had two umbilical, and one ventral hernia. i never had pain, or symptoms. just the swelling. they have to be surgically repaired. i,ve had one laproscopic, and two incisional repairs. all with mesh for internal support. i would go with incisional. recovery time is about 6-8 weeks. my last surgery was 9/15. went home the same day. the doc super glued my incision. i,m not joking. no stitches. i,ve been back in the gym for about two weeks. there,s pain during recovery with any abdominal surgery. i had percocet for pain. no lifting. someone has to drive you to and from the hospital. you have to have someone with you for at least 24 hours. the worst part, in my opinion, is the stick in the top of the hand for the i.v. line.  (+ info)

My 8 month old son has been diagnosed with a ventral hernia- What treatments are safest & effective?

Incisional Hernia
Also known as: ventral hernia

What is the treatment?
Patients with incisional hernias can wear a special type of belt, called a truss, to support the hernia and keep it from bulging out. They should also avoid any activities that cause abdominal strain. However, most patients elect surgery to repair incisional hernias and avoid the possibility of a strangulated hernia. The procedure to repair a hernia involves pushing the piece of the organ back into place and repairing the abdominal wall so the organ cannot push through again. Hernia surgery, called herniorrhaphy, used to involve a large incision and a long recovery period. However, many hernia repairs can now be performed through laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon uses a special viewing instrument called a laparoscope, inserted through a small incision in the abdomen. The laparoscope is like a tiny video camera that gives the surgeon a clear view of the abdominal area. Other small incisions are made to insert the surgical instruments used to push the organ into place and repair the abdominal wall. The surgeon may use a procedure called hernioplasty to reinforce the entire weakened area with synthetic material, like a tire patch. Laparoscopic hernia surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis. Incarcerated and strangulated hernias require emergency surgery and hospitalization. Laparoscopic surgery may not be recommended for very large hernias.

Self-care tips
You can help reduce your risk for an incisional hernia by following a healthy diet that is high in fiber and drinking plenty of fluids to prevent constipation, maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise, and avoiding cigarette smoking, which can cause chronic coughs. If your job requires heavy lifting, learn the proper way to lift and wear a support garment.  (+ info)

I had ventral hernia surgery 9 days ago. I've had fever ever since. Now I have a rash?

My fever has been running 101 at night. My rash started 1 day ago and is slowly breaking out. I have it on my scalp, palms, and back. They start as small red bumps and turn into a blister. They itch terribly and when I do touch them, they feel like they're on fire. So far none of the blisters have burst unless I have scratched them open accidently. These bumps are all over my palms, scalp and back, not just in one area. I haven't taken any new medicine, or used new soaps. I also have had a fever blister pop up over night. I have already been to my doctor twice since my surgery and he can't find what is causing the fever. He even ran a CT scan (with contrast), CBC, and a urinalysis but found nothing. Can anyone help...Please?

Did you take or receive any medication for the surgery
or pain ? The rash could be the reason for that and it's obvious you have some sort of secondary infection to run a fever. (how is the area that was cut open)?
A fever of 101 has a reason behind it. I'd bypass your regular MD and head to the ER of a reputable hospital hopefully for just a second opinion.
Head to web md for better help and advice - honestly a good ER is my best advice. It sounds like a staph infection (Impetigo) but it's just a guess I obviously can't diagnose you from the PC.  (+ info)

I had ventral hernia repair and gallbadder removed 25 days. I still have some soreness/pain mid ab area norm?

Is this normal? I have had no fever/vomiting or indication of infection
----------

Probably still have lactic acid in that area. Drink lots of water.  (+ info)

what are nursing diagnosis related to the medical diagnosis of ventral hernia?

Nursing Diagnoses that would be appropriate for this can include (these are NURSING diagnoses NOT medical diagnoses)

#1 Risk for Pain

#2 Risk for Altered Bowel Pattern

#3 Risk for Alteration in Nutritional Status

These are the very basic choices of diagnoses, if surgery is done for repair, other diagnoses would be relavent such as:

#1 Risk for infection of incision, etc  (+ info)

Had Gallbladder surgery, 3months later ventral hernia surgery, 4 weeks still sick, can't eat, painful?

stomach ache after eating sometimes unbearable, other times just diarrhea getting so tired of it, is this normal? I've lost nearly 30lbs.
have tried probiotics, no effect. I take Nexium 2 x a day. nothing seams to work
----------

one of the side effects of the antibiotics you took is diarrhea because you can wipe out some of the beneficial bacteria in your gut that are important for digestion. try to eat yogurt or probiotic products.

where is the pain? right, left, up, down, middle?

what kind of pain is it?

sharp/stabbing pain means you probably have lesions in your stomach like ulcers. if it's cramping pain, it means that you have some sort of obstruction and ur stomach cant empty as well or the muscles of your stomach is spastic.

have you ever had acid reflux? have you been in a lot of emotional stress lately?

acid reflux means that you're probably overproducing acid or that you have some sort of esophageal insufficiency or hiatal hernia. overproduction of acid can cause ulcerations in your stomach and intestines and give u sharp stabbing pain and usually with vomiting with blood or your poop turning black and tarry. esophageal insufficiency can cause you to regurgitate your food + acid which can damage the lining and also give u sharp/stabbing pain. emotional stress can cause you overstimulate your stomach resulting in both overproduction of acid and spasms of stomach muscle and give u a combination of sharp and cramping pain.

certain foods can irritate the stomach. what kind of foods do u usually eat? do you notice that certain foods cause the stomach pain?

spicy or food with strong flavor can irritate your stomach, try to see if bland foods like a plain bread causes the stomach pain too or not.

try to take antacids like prilosec or zantac or tums an night to reduce acid secretion.

If none of that work, either it's an adhesion, pancreatitis, or IBS (psychogenic, irritable bowel)  (+ info)

I had a hernia and the best thing to do is to follow the doctors orders and keep from doing any weight lifting  (+ info)

what is ventral hernia and why will a tummy tuck help it?

Ventral hernia is a defect in your abdominal wall that causes fat or other abdominal contents (e.g. bowel) to herniate out of your abdomen (i.e. poke out into an area they aren't normally supposed to be).

A frequent site of ventral hernia is between the rectus abdominus muscles (your abs). In abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), most plastic surgeons tighten up the gap in between your rectus abdominus muscles with sutures. They typically get lax after child birth, and the sutures (permanent, non-dissolving sutures) tighten them up.

So, if your ventral hernia is in the rectus abdominus region, then that's how a tummy tuck would fix it.  (+ info)

open ventral hernia repair?

I just had open ventral hernia repair a week ago. The doc tightened up my muscles and removed some excess skin. My stitches are from my sternum to my belly button. I know there will be some internal swelling from the handling of the organs. It seems so swollen that my tummy protrudes forward like I were pregnant. Is it normal to be this swollen and how long will this last? Also my abs are so tight that I cant walk with my body straight. When will this tightness ease up? Any answers is helpful. Thanks!
----------

Those things should subside within the next week. You should have an appointment with the doctor in two weeks after surgery so they can check you. If your still having problems then tell him about it.
They cut through your abdominal muscles and they are swollen and have to grow back together. Take it very easy for 6 weeks after the surgery so it has time to heal right. It takes that long or more to feel back to normal.  (+ info)
