Pain in lower left side of abdomen and also have ventral hernia?

Other half has been diagnosed with a ventral hernia. For the last two days, he has been experiencing pain on the lower left side of his abdomen and it is almost unbearable. Cannot have surgery yet as he is unemployed (just released from nearly 2 years of work comp) and we are trying to get him charity care assistance for surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should I have epigastric/ventral hernia surgery done before I plan another pregnancy?

I have a ventral hernia but my doctor said not to get surgery?

He said if its not hurting me that its not something I want to mess with. Said its a bad surgery to have. Has anyone had this surgery and what are the pros and cons? It doesn't hurt but the info on the web seems like it could get serious easy.
----------

Sounds like you have a very good physician. Keep an eye on it if it gets worse go back to him, but it may not progress at all and you would then never need a surgery. That is best case scenario as the surgery is not a 100% sure thing, and it can cause other issues.  (+ info)

i m 45yrs having diastasis recti since 5yrs.what treatment availble in india&is it aiso called ventral hernia

the gap between 2 recti is 5inches,my abdomen is pendulous.which hospital offers treatment at a reasonable price?
----------

Five inches gap between two rectii is significant gap.It requires surgery. There are three options depending upon your fitness for surgery and amount of gap.
1.You can apply abdominal binder,if not fit for surgery or reluctant for surgery. It is not a cure.Complications can occur in future.
2.The best option is surgery.Anatomical repair may be done by stitching the gap with the use of non-absorbable material. Here net is not put.
3.Use of net if gap more or weak muscles.Standard or laparoscopic method can be used.Available in all big gov.hospitals at reasonable price.[general surgery unit]  (+ info)

Could someone have a ventral hernia and not know it?

What are the symptoms?
----------

ya made me look it up... just for you darlin...
I don't know re: not knowing it... but wikipedia says the following:

An incisional hernia occurs when the area of weakness through which the hernia occurs, is the result of an incompletely healed surgical wound. Since median incisions in the linea alba are frequent for laparotomy, ventral incisional hernias are termed ventral hernia. These can be the most frustrating and difficult hernias to treat! These hernias present as a bulge or protrusion at or near the area of the prior incision scar. Virtually any prior abdominal operation can subsequently develop an Incisional Hernia at the scar area, including those from large abdominal procedures (intestinal surgery, vascular surgery), to small incisions (Appendectomy, or Laparoscopy). These hernias can occur at any incision, but tend to occur more commonly along a straight line from the breastbone straight down to the pubis, and are more complex in these regions. Hernias in this area have a high rate of recurrence if repaired via a simple suture technique under tension and it is especially advised that these be repaired via a TENSION FREE repair method using mesh ( a type of synthetic net ).  (+ info)

Ventral Hernia (One Mesh only) - Should I travel to India for this?

I am planning to get the Ventral Hernia (One Mesh only) in India. I have been tired of trying to get it in the NHS. The cost is supposed to be very low in India and I have heard the Hospitals are good.
----------

Didn't you just ask this question? I will respond like the other person and say research the facility. I am assuming that you are not from the States as hernia surgery is fairly common and routine.  (+ info)

What happens when a ventral hernia ruptures?

Hernias do not rupture. They're actually your organs pushing out in different areas of your body. A ventral hernia usually caused from any post-operative surgical site on the ventral side of the body. They are one of the most difficult hernias to repair and usually require surgical repair with mesh. Without treatment and repair a ventral hernia can incarcerate or strangulate your organs causing infection, gangrene, and organ dysfunction. If you have one and haven't seen a physician I would definitely recommend going to see one immediately.  (+ info)

You could try a special type of relaxation therapy called EMDR, where they do a kind of hypnosis and help you work out what it is that is actually causing you the anxiety towards the surgery, and how to deal with it. I tried it and it was VERY sucessful.

"EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It was discovered by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., in 1987. We're not sure why it works, but it does. Simply by providing side-to-side sensations to a person while discussing traumatic events in a specific therapeutic fashion can work wonders in allowing the person to heal himself or herself.

When a patient and a therapist do EMDR, the therapist asks the patient to bring to mind the incident the patient wants to work on, the negative thinking caused by the incident, and the new thoughts the patient wants to have. Then the therapist moves her or his fingers rapidly back and forth in front of the patient. The patient follows the fingers with his or her eyes. After a number of sets of movements, patients generally think and feel quite differently about the incident, similar incidents, and themselves. Healing has started."  (+ info)

Had ventral hernia surgery got a large incision & 1 under my waist can I wear undies under my pants soon?

Once the dressing has been removed and any necessary staples or sutures removed, you sure may. You may also be able to wear them sooner, but check with the staff of the surgeon first.  (+ info)
