Just wondering as our son had a hernia at 2 months of age in the left inguinal canal and now at 18 months he has herniated on the right side and has to have surgery again...Will this fix it so it doesnt recur or is their a chance for reccurance after its been repaired?

It seems that the baby is likely to get hernias, and being so young who can assure this will not happen again. I would ask the same doctor who operated on him what is the prognosis and what precautions could you take.

How active can you be if you think you have a hernia? For how long?
i had a double inguinal hernia..myth that women cannot get them is false!..mine was not too severe but surgery is the only way to repair them..they dont just go away!...at first it's intestinal fat oozing thru the abdominal wall (it feels like you squish a handful of lumpy jello thru your fist!)..if the hernia rips more, then your intestine is what 'leaks out the hole' and can become enstrangled which will require emergency surgery....

if you can 'push' and force the 'jello' thru the hernia, then you really should get it checked out before it becomes an emergency.

you'll be looking at 4-6 weeks off work/school and you'll have to be careful to not lift or strain in anyway..walking is about the only thing you will be allowed to perform and that will be hard to handle in itself!..trust me!....suggest your surgeon to insert mesh to prevent any future re-injury.  (+ info)

Waiting really isn't an option. It is healty for you to wait at least 3 weeks after sometimes even 2 months to have actually start having sex. But I'm sure after about 2 weeks you could attempt to masturbate.  (+ info)

I just had open hernia surgery 4 weeks ago and started biking and doing a few arm lifts at the gym. I know I am not supposed to do any abs, but what other exercises would be all right? I am 20 years old and a former college athlete.
It has only been healing for 4 weeks so I would be very careful doing exercises. You should consult your Dr about what exercises you can do, you don't want to have surgery again. It takes a good 6 to 8 weeks to heal after surgery.  (+ info)
