Mild Hepatomegaly. What does it mean?

So I went to go get my physical done 2 weeks ago and they found very small traces of blood in my urine. I then had to get my abdomen and pelvis checked out and they said that I have mild hepatomegaly, which is a mild enlarged liver. Does anybody here know what can cause it? I'm a fairly healthy person. I exercise a lot and I'm very lean and muscular. I'm trying to eat healthier, despite myself having a fast metabolism. I just don't know what's wrong.

Hepatomegaly= is the condition of having an enlarged liver, It's nonspecific medical sign having many causes, which can be broadly be broken down into infection, direct toxicity, hepatic tumors or metabolic disorder.
All this means is your liver is one of the above but a super mild case since your doctor did not give you any medication you are fine But if do get to feeling ill 1st thing to do is get a blood test for the liver.  (+ info)

Hepatomegaly (enlarged liver) can be cured?..?

Hepatomegaly (enlarged liver) can be cured?..?
----------

Well it depends on the cause of the hepatomegaly in the first place. If it is caused by Hepatitis A or B, those can be cured most of the time (10% of Hep B cases become chronic).
If it is caused by sarcoidosis it can usually be cured as well.
Hepatomegaly can also be caused by certain forms of cancer, so if the cance is cured presumably the liver should return to its normal size.
There are lots of other conditions that can cause hepatomegaly. Some can't be cured, but they can be treated, so in those cases the treatment may resolve the liver enlargement.  (+ info)

re-occurrence of anal cancer/ hepatomegaly with metastasis?

my father, aged 57 years, weight: 78 kgs
Past History:

30/07/2004: colorectal anal cancer. APR surgery with colostomy

12/08/2004: cycle of 3 Chemo prescribed by oncology physician, drugs prescribed: oxaliplatin, leucovorin etc.

3/11/2004: Repeat cycle of above 3 chemo with radiation therapy.

25/06/2008: little raised CEA around 25. Whole body PET Scan is normal.

Now my father has re-occurence of cancer with badly damaged liver & a condition called hepatomegaly with metastasis. its stage 4. Can anybody please advice me more regarding the options of treatment, how much time does he have. He had a pathological fracture last week at the outer thigh-hip joint & underwent DHS surgery. The Dr feels the cancer has also spread in his bones. So he will be immobile (in bed) for atleast 5 weeks.

please explain what is hepatomegaly with metastasis. guide & help me. aany direction u point out or guidance u give is above all forms of thanks.
----------

Hepatomegaly with metastasis means he has an enlarged liver and his colon cancer has spread to it. I am sorry, but this is not curable. Any treatment at this point is to either prolong life for as long a possible or to elevate symptoms. A stage 4 colon cancer has a 5 year survival rate of 5%.  (+ info)

y does hepatomegaly occur in starvation?

A very terrible way to die!! Hepatomegaly is the condition of having an enlarged liver.Besides albumin, the liver also manufactures the protein components of the lipoproteins. When the liver can't synthesize albumin, it will also be unable to synthesize these apolipoproteins. Triglyceride made in the liver cannot become packaged with protein for export, and accumulates in the liver. Causing-Abdominal swelling.  (+ info)

cure of hepatomegaly?

Hepatomegaly is a sign of something else, it's not a condition in itself. It just means large liver and there are many causes like not enough proteins (kwashiorkor) from not eating enough or from liver diseases like infections or fatty liver from alcohol. So to cure it, have to cure the underlying problem, hope that helps.  (+ info)
