Hemorrhoids?

I'm experiencing extreme pain surrounding my rectum. I have large, knot like, lumps on the outside of my rectum. When I cough, the affected area itself, and inside hurts. It feels like my rectum is turning inside out. Does this sound like hemorrhoids?
----------

Your description is certainly reminiscent of hemorrhoids, although there are a couple of other potential causes.

1- Hemorrhoids - These are enlarged veins (hemorrhoidal veins) that have enlarged, much like varicose veins, and protrude into the anus, potentially even coming out through the sphincter. They usually are bothersome, can be painful, bleed, but are in no way life-threatening. Individuals who spend much time in the toilet or those who strain excessively due to constipation are a risk of developing them and of having them progress. Usually hemorrhoids can improve with time, only to return later on. Sitz baths and local analgesic and anti-inflammatory creams can be helpful.

Occasionally, a hemorrhoid will "thrombose", or clot, and will produce extreme pain that needs to be addressed right away. There are three groups of hemorrhoids, basically surrounding the entire anal sphincter.

There are two main types of hemorrhoids, internal & external; both pretty common. The most common type are the internal. Internal hemorroids are inside above the "dentate line", an anatomical landmark within the anorectum. We grade hemorrhoids based on how they behave. Type 1 hemorrhoids don't protrude through the anus. Type II hemorrhoids protrude through the anus with coughing or straining but then return right back up. Type III hemorrhoids protrude continuously but can be manually returned into the anus. Finally, type IV hemorroids cannot be reduced and should be removed with surgery.

Other potential conditions are also possible, such as rectal prolapse, which is a very painful condition in which your rectum folds upon itself and telescopes through the anus. This is commonly seen in individuals with cystic fibrosis, the elderly, etc.

A rectal/anal abscess is a local inflammation due to infection near the anus. It will be a hard, painful swollen mass that causes extreme pain when touched.

An anal fissure is basically a cut along on of the margins of the rectum, it is incredibly painful and is much worsened with a bowel movement. Treatment is with Sitz Baths and bulking agents.

The best approach in your case, is to have your likely hemorrhoids looked at by a your PCP or a general surgeon and get their opinion. They usually will not opt to do surgery unless significant or if it has failed medical therapy. MEDICAL THERAPY CAN TREAT HEMORRHOIDS. Surgery is usually only a last resort if therapy has failed. Surgery includes placing a band around the hemorrhoids, letting them necrose and die. Alternatively, surgery to remove the three hemorrhoidal vein complexes can be performed, but usually only in cases where there is significant type IV prolapse outwards causing significant fecal incontinence. Good luck minimizing this annoying condition's impact on your regular life.  (+ info)

hemorrhoids?

whenever I bm, there is blood and it hurts really bad! I asked my mom about it, she said I probably just have a tear. Does it sound like hemorrhoids, and if I don't go to the doctor, and it is hemorrhoids, will it heal completely on its own?
----------

no..it may get worse and if it does, they have to do surgery and believe me, you dont want that!!! go to the dr. they will give you a steroid cream that the prescribe and it will clear up within a few days..plus you will have that left over cream so the next time it "flares" up you wont have to go back to the dr.  (+ info)

How long do hemorrhoids take to go away?

I'm only 25, which seems awfully young, considering that for several years now I've had an on-again, off-again dull pain during and after defecation. I've assumed it to be internal hemorrhoids, so I've started squatting to poop and that helps a lot. But still the pain flares up every now and again. If they really are hemorrhoids, why don't they go away?? They actually started not too long after I started experimenting with anal sex, could that have anything to do with it?
----------

hemorrhoid will never go away.. but this step will avoid you from getting hemorrhoid often..

1. Consume more fruit and vegetables, you need more diet fiber
2. stop drinking alcohol, coffee or smoke
3. don't do any heavy exercise
4. drink lot's of water each day a least 2 Liter.
5. Most important, don't experiment with anal sex again.

hope this will help...  (+ info)

How long does it take for hemorrhoids to go away?

This is kinda embarrassing, but I'm 16 years old and have irritable bowel syndrome. For the past couple days I've been kind of constipated and I think I got an external hemorrhoid from it. Will it go away or will i have it for life. Is there anything I can do to prevent them cause hemorrhoids run in my family?
----------

Dear,

Both internal and external hemorrhoids are among the most common ailments to affect humans today. External hemorrhoids develop around the rim of the anus.

External hemorrhoids cause most of the symptoms associated with hemorrhoids (pain, burning, and itching) because the skin around them is very sensitive. If an external hemorrhoid becomes strangulated (cut off from blood supply), a clot can form in it and become an excruciatingly painful thrombosis hemorrhoid. Thrombosis of an external hemorrhoid causes an anal lump that is very painful and often requires medical attention

You often can prevent hemorrhoids by preventing constipation and straining to have bowel movements. The following diet and lifestyle changes may help you to soften the stool, and avoid the straining that can lead to hemorrhoids:

•Include more fiber in your diet - fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, and whole-grain breads and cereals are good sources of fiber.
•Drink adequate amounts of fluids - 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.
•Exercise regularly
•Do not strain or sit on the toilet for long periods of time. Straining for more than 5 minutes can be harmful. Try not to stay on the toilet any longer than necessary.
•Use a soothing wipe, such as baby wipes or witch hazel pads, to clean after each bowel movement and to ease the pain.
•If your main job activity is seated, always stand or walk during your breaks. Make it a point to stand and walk at least 5 minutes every hour and try to shift frequently in your chair to avoid direct rectal pressure.
•Avoid heavy lifting, which puts pressure on the anal opening
Hope you will enjoy your life in healthy. It is better to prevent before it become worse every day.  (+ info)

What to do about hemorrhoids during pregnancy?

I am 23 weeks pregnant and I have noticed that I have 2 little hemorrhoids, they don't hurt or bleed. But I hate them, I developed them during pregnancy due to constipation. I am so worried I want to get rid of them so bad! Is there any medicine i can use to get rid of them? Help!
----------

You can use Preparation H cream, or use Tucks pads. Both of these are over-the-counter and safe to use during pregnancy. If these don't help, ask your provider at your next appointment, and they can give you a prescription for something stronger.

Good Luck with your baby!  (+ info)

How to solve internal Hemorrhoids causing constipation?

I don't have any of the other syptoms people are talking about like pain, bleeding, etc. The only problem I have is constipation from the hemorrhoids.
----------

I agree with the other person. Constipation causes hemorrhoids. Get treatment for constipation and the hemorrhoids are very likely to get better soon afterwards.

Try a stool softener like Sennocot, it's over the counter. Eat more fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water. If that doesn't help, see a doctor.  (+ info)

How long does it take for Hemorrhoids to go away?

"Mild cases can be treated with warm baths, stool softeners and fiber supplements."
I have a mild case as said by my doctor. However, the cream he gave me isn't really working so, on average, how long would it take for hemorrhoids to go away if I use a stool softener?
----------

Stool solfteners do not remove hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids develop due to too much pressure put on the veins in the rectal area. Veins become swollen and inflamed. Stool softener may help to get the bowel passing easier without pain. You still need a treatment that deals with inflamed veins and shrinks the hemorrhoids. It is also important to understandwhat is causing your hemorrhoids - constipation (in this case stool softeners are helping to deal with it), overweight, acid alkaline imbalance, sitting or standing for longer time, pregnancy, Vitamin B6 deficiency, or as a result of other diseases and conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome and fatigue liver. A great natural treatment for hemorrhoids is Rue Care Oil - it shrinks the hemorrhoids, stops bleeding (if any) and stregthens the veins, thus prevent hemorrhoids from returning.  (+ info)

How long does it take for hemorrhoids to clear?

I have a small hemorrhoid and it isn't too bothersome, just itchy. I just diagnosed it as a hemorrhoid today so I've taken the following precautions-i don't wipe(i rinse in the shower afterwards), plan to eat more fiber, and I'm using preparation H. Will it take more than a week or 2 to clear up? Also, with preparation H should I apply it after every bowel movement? And last....do most people consider hemorrhoids to be embarrasing like how people consider having diarrhea embarrasing?
----------

You're doing everything right - good for you!

Some hemorrhoids don't go away, but they don't always cause symptoms, either.

You said you just diagnosed it today - did you see a doctor? If it is still bothering you after a week or so, I would consult a doctor to make sure it isn't something else.

I thought I had hemorrhoids and ignored the pain for over a year, and I ended up needing surgery for an anal fissure and a sphincterotomy (I won't go through the gruesome details about that one!). Bottom line (no pun intended) - don't wait if it's not better!  (+ info)

How to rectify the external hemorrhoids?

I am having a great doubt about the external hemorrhoids. Is it possible to cure the external hemorrhoids.
----------

Yes, it is possible to cure the external hemorrhoids. There are several methods are used to cure the hemorrhoids. If the external hemorrhoids is in advanced stage then it can be removed surgically. Natural remedies are also possible. Eating whole grains, vegetables, fiber rich fruits and high fiber food can cure the hemorrhoids. Clean the anal area with hazel pads after bowel movement to stay clean and hygienic to prevent the severity of hemorrhoids.  (+ info)
