does a high hemoglobin count have anything to do with diabetes?

my husband has diabetes and was told he had a count of 470 on his hemoglobin after a blood test?
----------

hemoglobin is in red bloods cells and carries oxygen thought the body. There's no way it was 470.
When people with diabetes know the results from their hemoglobin A1c test, they can take an active role in their diabetes management. A high hemoglobin A1c is one that is greater than 8 percent. People with diabetes who have a test result that is greater than 8 percent need to work with their health care provider to change their treatment plan.
please research these websites i found they should answer your question.  (+ info)

What does it mean when you have high hemoglobin levels in your blood?

I have high levels of hemogoblin, just got my test back from the doctors.
----------

A hemoglobin test measures the amount of hemoglobin in your blood. Normal values for hemoglobin are 13.8 to 17.2 grams per deciliter (gm/dL) for males and 12.1 to 15.1 gm/dL for females.

High hemoglobin is usually due to an increased number or abnormality of red blood cells. Causes include:

Living at a high altitude

Smoking

Congenital heart disease

Failure of the right side of your heart (cor pulmonale)

Scarring and thickening of the lung tissue (pulmonary fibrosis)

A rare bone marrow disorder, Polycythemia vera. (Polycythemia vera is more common in adults older than 60. It's rare in people younger than 20. It affects men more frequently & it may run in families.)

Dehydration, such as from severe diarrhea or excessive sweating

Kidney disease

Exposure to carbon monoxide

Anabolic steroid use

What's the fastest way to raise my red blood cell count and hemoglobin?

Please don't say blood doping. I just want to know the natural, home made fastest way to do it.
Much appreciated, thank you.
----------

Iron will assist with the production of red blood cells/haemoglobin. You don't mention why you need to do this or how much and how quickly eg if you are anaemic or going on a high altitude adventure, so it might be worth making sure any suggestions here are checked and definitely appropriate for your situation.
For starters though, there are some good natural high potency tonics available, and iron rich foods are recommended in the diet for anyone suffering from anaemia. These include high cocoa content dark chocolate, lean red meat, green leafy vegetables eg spinach, spring greens.
There are also foods known to enhance the body's ability to absorb iron, such as beans and tomato or tofu and broccoli, brussels sprouts, capsicum family, potatoes, tomatoes, cantaloupe melon, grapefruit, strawberries & oranges.  (+ info)

What does it mean when you pregnant and have a hemoglobin type of "others"?

Is there anything extra the obgyn needs or will need to do if it is like that? Will there be something wrong with the baby?
----------

You should check if that is correct... I don't think there's such thing as type "others" for hemoglobin. There's type F (fetal), A, S, C, E, D and H.
Hemoglobin testing can be done to diagnose certain types of anemia and other diseases.
Anemia is fairly common during pregnancy and all you would probably need would be some iron supplements.
You probably had normal results or your doctor would tell you otherwise.  (+ info)

How to increase the hemoglobin content of the blood?

I have low hemoglobin content in my blood so some body pls help.....
----------

There are several natural remedies that can increase the levels of hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Beetroot is believed to be an age-old effective option, due to its high content of beta carotene and iron. Beetroot can be consumed in any form especially as a drink from freshly extracted beetroots blended with apple juice and honey.

Bananas too have been found to be quite beneficial in increasing the level of hemoglobin. Eat ripe bananas, as they are rich in iron and bananas mixed with honey twice daily are believed to increase the levels of hemoglobin.

Researchers say that vitamin C may also be helpful in enhancing the body’s absorption of iron, in the body. Hence, individuals afflicted with low levels of hemoglobin are recommended to add foods with a high content of Vitamin C in their diets.

Another effective option is to use honey. Honey has been known to be an ideal natural cure for anemia. Not only does it help in increasing the amount of hemoglobin in the blood cells, but is also a rich source of minerals such as manganese, iron and copper.

Other foods rich in iron include edible legumes and beans, whole grain meals, leafy green vegetables, tomatoes, potatoes as well fresh and dried fruits.
Have plain dates or date syrup.that might also help...  (+ info)

Diabetes and hemoglobin: What is the relation?

My 3 year old daughter just had a hemoglobin test done, but not an A1C. Her hemoglobin levels were fine, but does that mean I can rule out the possibility of diabetes. Her doctor was not good as explaining things.
----------

No. Hemoglobin and diabetes are NOT directly related.

When a patient has diabetes, the sugar molecules stick to the hemoglobin, this is called GLYCATING. These sugar molecules stick to the hemoglobin in the red blood cell, whip through your circulatory system doing all kinds of damage.

AND, glycated hemoglobin does not carry as much oxygen as unglycated hemoglobin, so you feel a bit more tired when your blood sugar is high.

The sugar molecules stay attached to the hemoglobin until the red blood cell is destroyed by the liver-- about 90 days. So the damage from just one hour of high blood sugar can have effects lasting for 90-120 days.

A good hemoglobin level is NOT an indication of lack of diabetes.  (+ info)

How to make my hemoglobin level go up?

My hemoglobin level is low. I'm a vegetarian and I would not take any medicinal stuff
----------

Hi Ludmilla.
For the formation of hemoglobin, it is very important to obtain the recommended dose of folate and vitamin B-6, since it is an essential component in the formation of genetic material and hemoglobin in red blood cells. Their sources are: Apricots, peaches, bananas, black molasses, prunes, raisins, whole grain cereals, turnip greens, spinach, dry beans.
