my 10 yr. old grandson has been diagnosed with a phalangeal hemangioma on his left hand.what is it and how can

what is it and how can it be treated. we have asked the dr several times and they could only say it was fatty tissue in his wrist. he has an appointment with a hand specialist thursday to figure out exactly what and how to treat it.
he doesn't have the typical port wine stain and they say it is very deep and possibly cancerous.
----------

Hemangiomas are usually red birth marks that you see on babies. They are caused by a group of blood vessels so that is why the strawberry birthmarks are red. Phalangeal relates to hand - so I'm guessing he has a birth mark on his hand. There are quite a few different treatments from laser to surgery to medication depending on the particular spot.
My daughter had a ganglion cyst on the inside of her wrist when she was a year old. It went away on its own. It is possible that he has one of these instead of the hemangioma. Neither of these sound very serious, but the lump on my daughter's wrist sure scared me and I am sure that is the case with you. It is hard not to worry about kids and their lumps and bumps. I hope the appointment on Thursday relieves your mind!  (+ info)

I have an hemangioma on my liver that is about 6cm. I was born with it. It has grown since. Just wondering if anyone has one and feels a pulsing on your side where the liver is. I always feel this pulsing and I think its the angioma on my liver. I had my gallbladder out 5 months ago so its not that.

i've personally never had a feeling like that. if ever in doubt i would make an appointment with your primary doctor or if you feel its more urgent go to urgent care. do you have any other symptoms...nausea, fatigue, bruising???  (+ info)

My 2month old daughter has a strawberry hemangioma under her chen, will it get worse?should i have it removed?

Has anyone with a similar situation had one removed? What are the results after it is removed? My daughter is only 2months old and I'm not sure if I should let it go or have something done.
----------

My child did not but I went to school with a guy who did and he was constantly made fun of for it and miserable. He did not date all the way through high school. Where as I also know a little girl in my sons preschool class who had it removed and the scar has already minimized and healed to where you can hardly tell it was ever there. It really depends on the child but I think it will help there confindence if they don't have it. Kids can be cruel and superficial. The sooner you get it removed the sooner the scar will heal and the sooner you and your family will forget it was ever there. Talk to her pediactrician to see if it even can be removed.  (+ info)

My daughter has a "hemangioma" also known as a starwberry birth mark ..?

Its turning white on the top of it, does that mean it is going away? & how long does it take to go away? Also sometime next to her eyes near her nose looks like its bruised I also herd they have "hemangioma" mark under the skin? Could that be it
----------

A "strawberry" hemangioma is an area where small blood vessels continued forming or proliferating and created the little patch that you see on your daughter. When it begins to turn white or scab up, yes....it is beginning to go away. In most cases the hemangioma is barely noticeable after 5 to 7 years. If it is bumped, it may bleed and scab and then actually partially disappear - but try to prevent this, as it will possibly bleed profusely.

Overall these small hemangiomas are harmless, and just cosmetic. After the 5 to 7 years it will most likely leave a small "birthmark" type spot where it used to be.

As far as it being under the skin, as you remarked, the blood vessels are in the upper and lower layers of the skin, so it's not just on the outer surface. I doubt that your daughter has one near her eyes under the surface entirely unless that is where the "strawberry" itself is.

If you have any more questions, send me a message and we'll chat about it!

Good luck and God Bless!  (+ info)

I have constant pain in back, due to hemangioma in my spine, Where should I consult?

Depends on where it is and how severe it is.
Is it pushing the spinal cord? Then it is serious.
Is it just around the bones? Then it would be OK to see a chiropractor to see what they can do before getting surgery you may not need.  (+ info)

The dr said its just a blood vessel that hadn't completey developed by birth and it will grow & finish developing & she'll be fine but, the only things I can find on the net about HEMANGIOMA is it is a blood vessel diease that causes tumors!!! THAT SCARES ME BADLY!! Any info will help.

If the doctor you mentioned is an opthamologist, then you might listen to her diagnosis.
This sounds like a potentially serious condition, and would be worthy of a second opinion, if anything but to set your mind at ease.  (+ info)
