Does hemangioma being inherited? My 2nd child has it on his right brow and one of my twin has also on his back

For my 2nd child, it only appeared when he was 1 month old. At first, we thought that it was just a scratch but it eventually grow bigger. He is now 1 year and 6 mos. old and he often touch. The growth is slow. Then, i just gave birth of a twin. One of my twin has this red thing on his back and when i asked the doctor about it, i was told that it is hemangioma. Am worried because there are times that he just cry. There's also a harsh sound when he breath. My husband and I is wondering if it is inherited because my Aunt has it when she was younger but when she got an accident, her hemangioma was affected. According to her, it was bloody and it left a big scar on her forehead. The hemangioma that my new baby grows fast. Can he have operation on this even he is only 2 months old?
----------

My son had a smallone pop up on the middle of his forehead when he was a month old and I asked his doctor about it. He said we would watch it and at a year old if it was still there, we would consult a dermatologist. Weeeel, that is what we did, only the dermatologist told me that if we were goint to remove it, we should have done it when it popped up. On a brighter note, he also said that it would be gone by the time he started school and if it wasn't we could have it removed then.Well, lo and behold, my son is 4 now and you can't even tell it was ever there. I agree with the dermatologist. Before you put the kids through surgery consult one. I bet they will just dissappear all on their own, just like my little guy's. :)  (+ info)

How to get rid of my five-year old daughter's hemangioma on the neck which is about 1 cm long?

Superficial or "strawberry" hemangiomas often are not treated. When they are allowed to disappear on their own, the result is usuaully normal-appearing skin. In some cases, a laser may be used to eradicate the small vessels.

Cavernous hemangiomas that involve the eyelid and obstruct vision are generally treated with injections of steroids or laser treatments that rapidly reduce the size of the lesions, allowing normal vision to develop. Large cavernous hemangiomas or mixed hemangiomas are treated, when appropriate, with oral steroids and injections of steroids directly into the hemangioma.

Recently, lasers have been used to reduce the bulk of the hemangiomas. Lasers emitting yellow light selectively damage the vessels in the hemangioma without damaging the overlying skin. Some physicians are using a combination of steroid injection and laser therapy together.

what does "hemangioma on the right side of T12 vertebral body" mean?

i recently had an mri on my lower spine and i had the report faxed to me.
----------

a hemangioma is a benign tumor consisting of a mass of blood vessels. the location is also pretty benign- meaning it's fairly protected from trauma, so it shouldn't ever burst or bleed. hemangiomas don't usually grow much larger, and surgical excision can often cause more problems than if you just left it alone. unless it was causing you significant symptoms, i'd just leave it alone.

btw- the T12 vertebral body is your backbone at about the mid-lower back, approximately at the level of your belly button. but the vertebral body is pretty deep in your back- you can't feel it. the backbones that you can feel in your back is the spinous process. the vertebral body is much deeper.  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of hemangioma of the Liver? What are the causes of hemangioma and how to prevent it?

The classically recognized hemangioma is a visible red skin lesion that may be in the top skin layers (capillary hemangioma), deeper in the skin (cavernous hemangioma), or a mixture of both.

Hemangiomas are usually present at birth, although they may appear within a few months after birth, often beginning at a site that has appeared slightly dusky or differently colored than the surrounding tissue.

Hemangiomas, both deep and superficial, undergo a rapid growth phase in which the volume and size increase rapidly. This phase is followed by a rest phase, in which the hemangioma changes very little, and an involutional phase in which the hemangioma begins to disappear.

During the involutional phase, hemangiomas may disappear completely. Large cavernous hemangiomas distort the skin around them and will ultimately leave visible changes in the skin. A superficial capillary hemangioma may involute completely, leaving no evidence of its past presence.

Hemangiomas may be present anywhere on the body. However, they are most disturbing to parents when they are on the infant's face or head. Hemangiomas of the eyelid may interfere with the development of normal vision and must be treated in the first few months of life. On rare occasions, the size and location of hemangiomas may interfere with breathing, feeding, or other vital functions. These lesions also require early treatment.

Large cavernous hemangiomas may develop secondary infections and ulcerate. Bleeding is common and may be significant following injury to the hemangioma.

Symptoms

A red to reddish-purple, raised lesion on the skin
A massive, raised tumor with blood vessels (a possibility)

My daughter has an Hemangioma under her eye if it's growing towards her eye what will be done?

As in what will they do to stop it?
If surgery is done how long will it put her down?

Keep in mind she is only three.....
----------

Typically, hemangiomas will regress in time on their own -- and they are quite common in children. Usually, the first line of intervention is an intradermal injection of a corticosteroid (like kenalog). It is of utmost importance that your daughter can see out of both eyes at this time in her life because the neurological pathways between her retinas and the occipital cortex (the part of the brain where vision is processed) are just developing. If the hemangioma covers her eye, this neurological development will not occur properly -- possibly reducing her ability to see well out of that eye later in life or possibly leading to a lazy eye. Surgery is less common, but important if the hemangioma doesn't regress properly. I don't know how long surgery will put her out of commission -- but I imagine not long. Best of luck. Find a doctor you trust -- her condition is fairly common.  (+ info)
