Is it possible to get a heat stroke when inside a bathroom with really hot water coming out of the shower?

IF you were to be in the bathroom for a long time?
Nope, no ventilation
----------

I don't know about heat stroke, but the steam makes me dizzy when I take really hot showers, so I have to go into a different as soon as I get out of the shower so I don't get too faint..  (+ info)

How long is it plausibly possible to stay in a banya/sauna before heat stroke sets in? How long before death?

No, am not thinking of trying it myself; just writing a scene in a novel where one character locks another in. The idea was originally a day, but I'm not sure that's plausible given I've just read average time spent there by choice is 15 mins.
Should perhaps add that the character is also very fit and used to living in hot climates, though never in a banya before.
----------

i think usually its about twenty minutes and im sure after a day the person will have died lol.  (+ info)

Would someone who is overweight be more vulnerable to heat stroke?

Our company has hired a girl who is about 25 lbs overweight to do landscape maintenance, including trimming. Trimming for hours on end is very physically straining work when it starts getting hot. Will her excess weight make trimming a problem in the summer. She's not in good shape. Most of her weight is fat. I'm fit, 5'6 135 lbs and it can be uncomfortable for me.
----------

yes. if you are not in good shape, physical strain can easily cause heat stroke. don't say anything to her though. just let her figure it out and want to lose weight. when she starts trying, encourage her. but for the mean time, make sure she drinks a lot of water and eats healthy  (+ info)

If someone is suffering from heat stroke, and there BP is low, would their pulse increase or decrease?

Any information welcome, debating a friend, I say it would increase, she says decrease, we can't find the answer anywhere!

They would have a fast, weak pulse because the heart will beat faster to make up for the low blood pressure.  (+ info)

Can you have heat stroke with out a fever?

I have been sick the past week and I was out in the sun working for 10 hrs today. I dont have a fever but I do have a sun burn. Also from the first 20 min I was out I was having trouble breathing ( I blame it on being sick and this made me weak) Anyways I am lightheaded but that is it, Other then that I feel fine my tem is 98.8. Am I fine?
----------

Yes absolutely and coupled with you being ill, it could have all combined to make you lightheaded, but I believe it might be dehydration. You need to drink plenty of fluids and certainly try to stay cool and out of the heat. Water right now is your best friend, along with an electrolyte replacing drink such as Gatorade. Rest up, keep hydrated and you should bounce back.  (+ info)

what are the cause, symptoms and treatment for hypothermia and heat stroke?

i am doing some science course work and i need to to what the cause, symptoms and treatments for hypothermia and heat stroke. simple words, I'm not very bright, anyone welcome to answer, thankyou x
----------

HYPOTHERMIA
Cause:
--When your body temperature drops so much that your body cannot function normally. Basically caused by being exposed to cold temperatures for an extended amount of time (like if you fall into an icy lake)
--There are four levels: Mild (when your body temperature is 90-95 degrees F); Moderate (82-90 degrees F); Severe (68-82 degrees F) and Profound (less than 68 degrees F.)

Symptoms: (There are three stages, and each stage has different symptoms)
--Stage 1 (2-3 degrees F below normal body temperature): Shivering; breathing becomes shallow; hands (or feet or any exposed skin) becomes numb; goose bumps form. May feel nauseous and/or tired. May start to have trouble seeing
--Stage 2 (body temp is 3-7 degrees F below normal body temperature): Violent shivering; movement becomes slowed; mild confusion; paleness; exposed skin turns blue
--Stage 3 (body temperature below 89 degrees F): Difficulty speaking; sluggish thinking; memory problems; inability to use hands; stumbling; exposed skin becomes blue and puffy; muscle coordination becomes poor and walking almost impossible; pulse decreases; incoherent/irrational behavior. Eventually major organs fail and brain death (and then death) occurs.

Treatment:
--Call 911. While waiting, or if unable to reach 911:
--If the person is wet, remove all wet clothes. Remove the person from the cold environment
--Because their heartbeat may be very slow, check their pulse; you may have to begin CPR
--Give the person warm fluids. No alcohol or caffeine
--Cover the person with blankets and rewarm them slowly. Do not put them in a hot water bath or in front of a radiator, as this may only decrease the amount of shivering and may slow the rate of temperature increase.

HEAT STROKE
Cause: Abnormally elevated body temperature due to extreme heat, high humidity, dehydration, and/or intense exercise in the sun

Symptoms:
--Usually, before progressing to heat stroke, the person will have symptoms of heat exhaustion (nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, headache, muscle cramps/aches, dizziness.)
--Heat stroke symptoms: high body temperature; absence of seating; hot/flushed dry skin; rapid pulse; difficulty breathing; strange behavior; agitation; confusion; disorientation; seizure; coma

Treatment:
--Call 911. While waiting, or if unable to reach 911:
--Bring the person to a shady area and remove clothing. Apply cool water to the skin; fan the victim to promote sweating; place ice packs under armpits and groin
--DO NOT give them anything to drink  (+ info)

Could this be heat stroke or something worse?

Hi, I have a question concerning a certain ailment that has been with me for the past three weeks. Three weeks ago I went up to visit family in Boston, and it was hot as anything. Whenever I was in the car I would feel very nauseous and have a headache, but when I was out of the car I was fine. On the plane back to Chicago where I live I felt extremely sick, seeing as I had been throwing up quite a bit the four days I was in Boston. Ever since then I've been becoming nauseous and light headed with extremely painful headaches. It comes and goes, especially when I'm lying down reading, or have just eaten something. I don't know what could be wrong, but I'm worried, do you know what this could possibly be? Maybe heat stroke or something?
----------

Go to the doctor. It's not heat stroke because it happens when your not in the heat. I don't know what it is but i follow this rule of thumb when it comes to my body:Better safe than sorry.  (+ info)
