What is the major difference between HEAT STROKE and HEAT EXAUSTION?

Which is more life threatening and at what point do you cross the line of just being hot, tired and sweaty to actually having a serious condition? and then there's HEAT rash, but I'm less concerned about that at the moment. Thanks for your reply --
Stay COOL!
----------

heat exhaustion is basically just an acute reaction to a hot, humid environment marked by profuse sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache and profound fatigue as the result of excess fluid loss from the body. heat exhaustion differs fr heat stroke in that the body's thermoregulation system is still functioning; if untreated, heat exhaustion can progress to heat stroke. in heat stroke a person can get altered mental status. unlike heat exhaustion that u can get slow heat rate in heat stroke the heart rate is fast, termed tachycardic. worst case of altered mental status can be from convulsions to coma. and mortality is more common.  (+ info)

What's the difference between heat stroke and heat exhaustion?

What are the symptoms of shock? What is the first aid for shock? How should i take care of a bruise (contusion) What is the proper way to stretch a muscle?
----------

heat stroke is more severe. a person going into heat stroke STOPS sweating after sweating horribly. The body shuts down and they normally pass out. Heat exhaustion they start to get really sweaty and tired. Both of these need to be treated fast with water, shade, and ice all around the body.
sign of shock:person feels nausous their skin gets cold and clamy and they will want to sleep
to treat take immediately to the hospital give them a blanket and if possible lift their legs 12 inches off ground. do not let them sleep.
bruises don't need special treatment. If they hurt enough or are severe enough use ice to numb it but don't use heat it causes more bleeding
to stretch a muscle: there is ballistic stretching where you just hold it for a little bit which you would do in a game
for not in a hurry hold in stretch for 3 sets of 30 seconds  (+ info)

Could I have heat stroke from my gym workout?

I went to the gym last night and worked harder than usual. I was really red in the face, really hot and sweating. The rest of the night I was hot to the touch and felt like I had a fever. When I went to bed, throughout the night I felt cold everywhere except my face. Even today I felt feverish.

Was this a sign of heat stroke? If not, what other things could it be?
----------

Not likely unless the gym was 120 degrees for a long period of time.

Heat strokes are caused by being in the sun for a long period of time and not hydrating your system with adequate water.  (+ info)
