How do you adjust the hand grips on reguler crutches?

Well I sprained my ankel now I have to use crutches for a little while but I need to put the hand grips up and I don't know how and neither does my mommy. I've tried looking it up on the internet but nothing shows up. Can you please tell me how to adjust the hand grips.
----------

The typical under-arm style hand grip is held in place by a screw and a wing-nut. Remove the nut by turning it counter clockwise (by hand or with a pair of pliers). Remove the screw. Put the grip where you want it, put the screw in, and then tighten the nut. To determine the proper height:

Adjusting the Crutch Length
With the crutch tips placed on the floor, each about six inches outside of the person’s feet, adjust the height of the crutches so that the axillary pad (or top of the crutch) rests against the rib cage approximately one or two inches below the armpit. The axillary pad should never press into the armpit as there are very important nerves in that region. Pressure on the nerves from the crutch can result in numbness, tingling and weakness in the arm.

Adjusting the Hand Grip
Once the crutch length is properly determined, adjust the height of the handgrips so that the person’s elbows are slightly bent when holding the grips.  (+ info)

How much hand sanitizer is unsafe for consumption?

My dorm buddy and I have a little competition planned and we wanted to have a general idea of how much hand sanitizer (roughly) would be toxic or potentially fatal to a person of an average build. We stocked up at CVS last night so the sooner we get a definitive answer the better! Thanks!

Can children exposed to second hand smoke visibly expel smoke from their lungs?

My sons can breathe hard with their mouths covered with their hand and when they release their hand, smoke comes out. Is this from my smoking around them?
----------

This is a very good question. My brother and I used to do this when we were kids. Mom smoked and the house always was filled with smoke. And yes, we were able to make smoke come out of our lungs the same way your boys do. I have tried to do it later years now that I am never around cigarette smoke and I just tried right now...NOTHING. So, yes, I think it's true.

One thing I can tell you, and I am not an anti-smoking NAZI at all, is that when I was young, I got sick all of the time with colds and what not. When I got away from that second hand smoke, I hardly ever get sick any more. My kids hardly ever get sick..nothing like I did when I was a kid.

You have every right to smoke where and when you want to. But, for the sake of your children's health, I would consider having a smoking room or garage or somewhere else where they wouldn't be exposed to the second hand smoke. Take care.  (+ info)

How does slamming a car door on one hand cause nerve pain in the other hand?

ER doctor said the fingers were only bruised, not broken, but that was 2 weeks ago and the pain is still really bad. Is the nerve pain in the other hand caused from overuse due to having to baby the sore hand?

What kind of exercise stabalizes ur hand tremors?

No, im not parkinson. My hand tremors or shakes a bit when under pressure, is there any exercise that can improve my hand tremor problem? Or any advices.
----------

Jeesh I hate it when someone answers a question like scruffy did!! Anyway...You should have some blood work done because hand tremors are a symptom not just something that happens for no reason. I am not aware of any exercises to decrease them. I had hand tremors and it was very bad when I was under pressure, It ended up being hypothyroidism.  (+ info)

How often should a person use hand sanitizer in a high school with H1N1?

We have four confirmed cases of H1N1 in our school. It is a pretty small school so it could get passed on quickly. How often should a person use hand sanitizer? I know there are 'good germs' on your hands and I don't want to destroy those. We have also bronchitis and strep at the school i work at.
----------

First of all, you should avoid touching your face or eating before having washed your hands because that's how germs that are on your hands infect you (unless you have a cut on you hands).

You should only use hand sanitizer before doing one of the previous things. Make sure to use a generous amount, your hands should still feel cool and moist after having used hand sanitizer.  (+ info)

How much marijuana second hand smoke does it take to get a positive drug test?

I got drug tested a couple days ago (Wed.) and the Saturday before I got a little bit of second hand smoke from a friend. It was just 1 small inhale, I was just able to only smell it really. No harm right? Because they send it to the lab, it isn't just one of those home test kits. I haven't actually smoked myself in over a year.
----------

You have to actually smoke it for it to show up on a drug test.

You're fine....  (+ info)

Is Purell hand sanitizer a replacement for washing your hands?

I'm pretty sure Purell isn't the same as soap and water (correct me if I'm wrong), but my friend has started using just hand sanitizer after the bathroom without washing her hands. How can I convince her that there's a difference, if there is one?
----------

Hand sanitizer is NOT a replacement for hand washing with soap and water.

Alcohol based gels do kill most bacteria, fungus, and viruses but it is only meant as a temporary measure when water and soap is not available.

When you wash your hands you should always use soap and warm running water, and vigorously rub both sides of your hands getting between your fingers, your finger nails, and your wrists for at least 20 seconds.

And then don't turn off the water yet, dry your hands with a paper towel and then use that same paper towel to turn off the water; think about it your hands were dirty when you turned the water on by touching/gripping the faucet nobs/levers and then you washed them clean... so if you touch them again your hands will be dirty again.  (+ info)

What is contained within hand soap and what would happen if one was to swallow a bit of it?

What is contained within hand soap and what would happen if one was to swallow a bit of it? Would it poison you, make you fat, give you diarrhea, etc?
----------

Ingesting soap can cause diarrhea. The additional ingredient could cause more severe problems, if large amounts were swallowed. A very small amount would just give a bad taste.  (+ info)
