What are some of the ways to lessen hallucinations induced by levodopa in patients with Parkinson's disease?

Visual and auditory hallucinations have become worse due to the drug's side effects.

Can drugs such as morphine and vicodin cause hallucinations?

I'm just wondering because I'm doing a health project on hallucinations. And also if u could give me any more tips on hallucinations and stuff like that it would be greatly appreciated!!
----------

Morphine and Vicodin are narcotic analgesics -- they induce euphoria, not hallucination. I have taken both of these painkiller meds. After a euphoria, the user will become tired and may go to sleep.

Hallucinogenic drugs include LSD and the prescription sleeping pill Ambien (officially classified as a Hypnotic). Depending on dosage, these meds may calm you down, or induce hallucinations.  (+ info)

What are sleep deprivation hallucinations?

How long does it take for a person to experience hallucinations, after staying awake after long periods of time? I used to be able to stay up 2 days straight, until i read about these things, and was afraid of the things i would see if i had them, will i get them from being up for 17 hours enough to get them? are they really big hallucinations, or just little things? Are they scary? What type of things do you see?
----------

sleep deprivation hallucinations are when you get SO tired that your brain starts dreaming while you are awake. You also have "microsleep" which is when your brain sleeps for a split second every time you blink. According to a study of sleep deprivation impairment, 21 hours of no sleep has the same impairment effect of a .08 alcohol (legally drunk).  (+ info)

how long before i get hallucinations from sleep deprivation?

hi there, i'm a college student trying to cram for finals week and for the past two night's in a row, i have slept only four hours and now i'll be spending this night with no sleep at all and possibly tomorrow night as well.

i've heard that hallucinations typically begin to occur with sleep deprivation around the third or fourth day, but i'm curious...with the low amounts of sleep i've gotten previous nights, can anyone predict when i'll start having hallucinations?

has anyone ever tried this? how dangerous is this?
----------

they should be starting just about....NOW!

Marylin Manson loves sleep deprivation so of course it couldn't be dangerous. You won't see him in the bathroom mirror for at least 3-4 hours of deprivation, so don't worry. Remember DO NOT operate heavy machinery or enter public restrooms while hallucinating AND whatever you do, be sure to stay clear of ANYTHING with soy lecithin. Good luck and next time buy a personal planner before finals.  (+ info)

What are some hallucinations schizophrenics have experienced?

I don't want to sound rude, i understand schizophrenia, im just really curiouse about what sort of hallucinations they have, are they scary? nice? fun? boreing? crazy? ect...
----------

Auditory hallucinations: I have experienced many types. I have heard mumbling that I couldn't understand, glass shattering, instrumental music (mostly piano and flute), door knobs jiggling, actual voices talking to me, and an assortment of other random noises.

Visual hallucinations: These have been either scary or boring. Scary ones were basically seeing people that wanted to hurt me. I once saw a man come into my bedroom while I was reading in bed. At the time I had a mosquito net canopy and the man took an ax and started chopping at the net. I've also seen people walk out of my closet and people at the back door with a gun, trying to get in. Boring things include seeing water trickle from the ceiling when there wasn't a leak, light on the floor from a window moving and changing shapes, objects contort, and other stuff like that.

Olfactory hallucinations: I frequently smell random things. Once I was on a road trip and passing past miles of cotton fields, I smelled the scent of colored marshmallows (the ones that are different pastel colors). Or I will smell a scent on a person (a friend's hands smelled like tar) that they cannot detect or explain (friend had not encountered tar).

I've never had tactile or taste hallucinations.  (+ info)

Has anyone have ever gotten any side effects of hallucinations from Vicks Vaporub Cough Suppressant?

I researched it on the internet, and found it out it causes hallucinations. Any clue
----------

Dextromorphan is the cough suppressant in most cough medicine. This drug is very similar structurally to LSD. Most people experience vivid dreams with this medicine, and many people abuse cough medicines to experience hallucinations. If you are thinking about getting high with cough medicine make sure that you buy a product that contains only Dextromorphan . Multiple doses of cough medicines that contain mixtures of different medicines, especially acetaminophen, can destroy your liver.  (+ info)

Is It Possible To Have Paranoid Schizophrenia, With Absolutely No Hallucinations?

I was reading a quote from Heath Ledger about the version of the Joker he played in the new batman movie and he described the Joker as having, among other mental disorders, schizophrenia. Obviously he didn't mean disorganized or catatonic schizophrenia, since the character wouldn't be able to function in the way he is supposed to, which just leaves the paranoid type.

So i am wondering, is this new Joker supposed to be hearing voices and/or seeing things that aren't there or can a person with paranoid schizophrenia have absolutely no hallucinations?
----------

Yes, actually a common alternative to hallucinations in P.S. is delusions where instead of seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are created by the mind, there are thoughts and beliefs which aren't real. I had a client many years ago who believed that he had secret connections to the government and must place tin foil around the microwave at 3:00 so that they can give him their daily update. Technically, he didn't see, hear, or feel anything that wasn't there, he just imagined he had special powers, so to speak. strange, isn't it?

What medial illnesses are VISUAL hallucinations* associated with?

My first thought would be Schizophrenia but the wikipedia article has the term "auditory hallucinations" as a symptom. Are visual hallucinations a schizophrenic symptom also?

*By hallucinations I mean ones that the person believes actually exist.
----------

The thing about mental illnesses is that they don't necessarily stick to the symptoms list in the DSM-IV. You can have some of them but not all, or some of them and also some others, and differing amounts, or differing presentations, etc, and sometimes you have mental issues that don't really fit anything but are still real. It could absolutely be schizophrenia, though there are also psychoses that are similar to schizophrenia without technically _being_ schizophrenia.  (+ info)
