What percentage of HIV patients recieved the virus from immunization needles administered by a doctor?

I'm just getting paranoid, becuase I went to a walk-in clinic to receive a vaccination. The vaccination was free, which surprised me. Does any one know the percentage of people that contract HIV from needles from doctors? I know they are supposed to toss the needle out, but there are shady doctors.

How easy is it to contract the hiv virus?

I know that you can catch hiv from unprotected sex, and blood transfusions, but is there any other way that you can contract it? Like for example is someone that has hiv uses something like lotion or some type of skin therapy on their body and then you use it, can you contract it? Or better yet how easy is it to contract this virus? And is it a rare virus?

People with different kind of sicknesses has what leads to it. That's the more reason i want to know the symptoms or signs to know an hiv infected person?

Is 9 weeks long enough to detect hiv in the bloodstream from a STD test?

I just recently had a STD test from an encounter with an ex-g/f from early november, approx 9 weeks...I got the results back and was negative on everything including hiv. Is this enough time to detect hiv or did I get the std test too soon?
More than 98% of people who have HIV would test postive within 3 months after getting infected. In rare cases, it can take up to 6 months for someone to test positive. Testing 3 months after possible exposure is recommended, followed by retesting 6 months after possible exposure.

Can HIV negative people understand what a person with HIV goes through?

It has been my experience that many can't. I was told by one that I she could but she was proven to be destructive to HIV people and that make it hard for most of us to trust people who are negative.
They can try to understand. I have been talking to a lot of HIV poz people and I know a lot of the things they go through. I have even researched a lot of the drugs and their side effects, trying to come up with the best cocktail for one of my closest friends.

If you really want to try to understand someone - you need to be there, ask questions, talk to the people who are suffering from it, understand the stigma surrounding their everyday lifes!

But one thing is for sue, HIV neg people can never trully understand!

Some actual statistics or references would be nice. No reason to just give a guess. How does test accuracy change over time? And what are the numbers for tests taken very quickly after HIV exposure?
3 months is a conclusive test unless you are a regular IV drug user, suffer from cancer or have had a organ transplant, then test also at 6 months. If you test after 6 weeks post exposure, your test is very unlikely to change but test at 3 months to be sure.

I've found out that a young lady that I work with have HIV/AIDS. She does not wear gloves in preparing customers food. How would feel?

Then on top of that she has a bad work attitude.
Is there must trust there?
There is no reason a person with HIV couldn't work preparing food. HIV is not passed on through food. She should not work if she is suffering any diarrhoeal diseases, though, the same as anyone else.

As for the gloves issue, there are some situations where people preparing food ought to wear gloves, particularly if they are handling money. But HIV is not a problem here: your colleague should take the same precautions as everyone else.  (+ info)

In many parts of the world, men who have sex with men have the highest rates of HIV infection, disproportionally higher than women or heterosexual men.
Does anyone know what is responsible for this?
The primary reason is that anal sex is the easiest way to sexually transmit HIV.

Hello, here in NYC at the STD clinic you get the HIV rapid test to test for HIV antibodies. This happens 1 to 3 months. The result is ready in about 20 minutes.

After that I gave blood and this was the acute HIV test. They said to call back the lab in a week for it. What is the difference between the two tests.
The rapid test is a preliminary exam that is often associated with false positives and false negatives. The blood test is more reliable. Basically, both tests can detect HIV, the blood test is more reliable since it looks for the virus in your bloodstream.  (+ info)
