Does gynecomastia cause a decrease in testosterone or an increase in estrogen?

I'm really wondering if the condition causes some sort of change in the body chemistry for males, especially in terms of sex drive or testosterone levels. I had gynecomastia when I was a child, but had plastic surgery to cover it, and I notice that many males at my age simply had more competitive drive and anger issues than I ever did.

Of course, it could be upbringing as well, but this idea just piqued my curiosity.

Actually it's not the condition that causes the flux in hormones but the hormones that bring on Gynecomastia.

When estrogen levels rise, men are more inclined to getting Gynecomastia. Yes it can decrease sex drive as well.  (+ info)

Have you tried discussing this with your doctor? Could you still outgrow it?

If it is unlikely that your gynecomastia will go away on its own, try to arrange a meeting with your doctor and your parents. I can imagine that it's emotionally and socially difficult to be 17 and have gynecomastia. I have Gynecomastia, it is a condition of large female like breasts on a male body. This is not caused by excessive weight in my case as I weight 165 lbs and am 6 ft tall..the weight problem one is callsed Psudo-Gynecomastia because it isn't really gynecomastia. I was wondering who I can get help from to have surgery or help my self image. I don't get involved in social activity or have a job because I used to be teased in school all the time which caused me to go into hiding for years. I am 24 now still living at home and can't find anyone to help me, I don't know what to do. I tried to force myself to get over it but I can't, I did wear an ace bandage to compress them flat and that gave me a large confidence boost but those are so uncomfortable to wrap around me. I just wish to look like a normal male, any ideas?
I Know certain conditions or drug use can cause this, I have never taken drugs and I am not sure if I have a bad liver or hyper thyroid but this is what I am wondering, what charity can help me as I do not have money.
I have researched the condition for several years, I know plastic surgery can solve it but thats like $5000 or so which I do not have, I've tried talking to charities before they just ignore me. I am 18 6'3 and am very cut and 174lbs. I lift and workout daily and have had gynecomastia since I was 13. Im guessing that it will not go away like my doctor said and I am wondering what my options are except surgery.
I saw a video about it. I think I have a small case of it. It said the only way to get rid of it is surgery. Many poeple that have it, if they work their pecs out a lot the muscle will build underneath it and make it more noticable through T-Shirts and clothing. I wish I could get surgery but there's still a small chance I'm still growing and losign some weight so I still have time.  (+ info)

It's the same thing. Now, I'm going to tell you cause I'm a retired nurse and the mother of 3 grown sons. As soon as all of my boys hit "testostrone city", they got little "boobs". By the time they were 16-17, the boobs go away. You're just in a hormone flux. So, you can do what my kids did, wear a cotton t-shirt under everything(which is in style now) and keep them loose, or just ignore it and notice that all the other guys have them too. Since you have undergone surgery before, I suggest you go back to your surgeon and find out the reason behind your current situation. Is it due to still have remaining glandular tissue or just new fat tissue?
There are some non-surgical treatments but only applicable to selective cases, ie. pseudo-gynecomastia. If your gynecomastia is due to excess fat, you may want to try some workouts, ie. DB bench press and other chest exercises. Adjust your diet. You may want to try tumeric and more alkaline food.  (+ info)

My brother who is really skinny runs or walks on the treadmill a lot, and he has gynecomastia, and is worried that he won't be able to go on the treadmill until a long time after surgery.
Does anyone know the time in-between where he can't go running?
It's probably like any other surgery. As soon as the patient makes a full recovery, they are good to go. I heard it takes about 6 weeks for a full recovery, so I would say 6 weeks at the most, but possibly sooner than that.  (+ info)
